  • As the Favre Turns

So apparently I am over the limit for my photos despite the fact that it says something like 14% usage and 4% download for the month.  I don't get it.  Maybe hose moves to new servers actually upgraded so we can no longer have free premium.  Well time to raid my coin banks to raise the $100 for Lifetime.  Maybe I will start a paypal account for some sugar momma to stake me for a Lifetime Xanga account as well as $10,000 for an entrance fee into the World Series of Poker.

Anyway onto the soap opera that is Brett Favre.

Brett has been somewhat of a demigod to us Packer fans.  He resurrected the Packers.  They traded to get him from the Atlanta Falcons and in the second game of the season Brett was put in for then starter Don Majikowski, who didn't bring much magic to the Pack, and after Majikowski tore a ligament in the next game Favre started every single game at quarterback for the Packers for the next 16 seasons.  Interesting sidenote, Brett's first completion as an NFL quarterback was to himself.  Favre almost never suited up for the Packers because during his team phyical he was diagnose with a degenerative hip disorder, the same disorder that sidelined Bo Jackson's career, and doctors recommended that Favre be failed and the trade nullified.

Brett became a legend.  He won 3 NFL MVP awards and led the Pack to the playoffs and eventually the Super Bowl.  Favre was the first quarterback to lead the Packers to back to back playoff seasons since Vince Lombardi was the head coach.  Favre was known for his late game heroics and turning Lambeau Field into a dreaded stadium for visiting teams.  Although I praise Brett, he did have his problems most notable...the INTERCEPTION!  He holds the record for most interceptions thrown as well as most touchdown passes.  I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

After the 2004 season, the Brett Favre soap opera began.  His wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and he began his retirement shtick.  Would he?  Won't he?  Every year it was the same story.  He had to be cajoled into returning.  In 2005, his family's home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, his family convinced him to return despite his want for retirement.  2006 was a horrible season for the Pack so Brett didn't want to return for 2007 but after encouragement he did.  He set so many career records in 2007 and made an impressive playoff run and would have faced the Patriots in the Super Bowl if it were not for an interception he threw.  Well it looked like Favre was finished.

March 4th of 2008, Brett Favre announced his retirement however he didn't file his papers with the NFL.  The Packers wanted an answer so they knew what they would have to persue in the free agent market as well as the NFL draft.  Well Brett wanted more time to decide and the Packers' GM and head coach weren't going to allow him that time to decide.  On July 2, Favre contacted the Pack to say he wanted to return but the Packers said they had moved forward so a few days later Favre asked for a release from his contract.  The GM knew what Favre was up to so he refused and Favre asked for a trade.  Nothing happened in Wisconsin that summer.  The only news was Brett Favre.  Then Favre came to a Packers training camp session in August and he met with head coach Mike McCarthy(a great name for Green Bay and Wisconsin...I'm talking to you history nerds) and GM Ted Thompson.  They decided that the Packers needed to move forward and Favre was not in their future plans.  Favre was traded to the New York Jets.

Favre had a mediocre at best season with the Jets.  They didn't make to the playoffs and the Brett Favre retirement watch started.  He asked for his release.  Brett said that he was going to help coach a high school football team in Mississippi and his agent Bus Cook started talking about how he was looking for a quarterback coach to work with Favre.  Well the rumors began and it was soon speculated that Brett would play for the Minnesota Vikings.  Vikings coach Brad Childress met with Favre on Thursday night and it was reported that Favre refused to sign with the Vikings and that he was going to stay retired.  Bus Cook said that Favre was retired and the quarterback coach would help Favre coach.  Well that changed on Friday.  Favre changed his mind and had an x-ray taken of his shoulder.  He may need surgery however if the Viking doctors say it is anything less than "major" surgery, Favre will sign with the team.

Personally I am sick of this soap opera.  I think Favre just loves to hear his name in the news and doesn't want that to go away.  So here, Brett, BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE

Is that enough?  Oh how are you going to be talked about in games in which you aren't playing?  Your chief dick licker, John Madden, retired.  Brett, who is going to pucker up and kiss your ass?  Is this just personal?  You really want to put your body through another season just to give the Packer organization a big F--- You?  That would be great, alienate all your fans as if these retirement watches haven't done enough to do that.  To think, I had donuts and coffee with you.

Do you really want to end up like that?  Why can't you just go and leave us with these great memories:

Brett, please retire and stay retired.  Be that devouted father you have talked about being and was one of your original retirement reasons.  Besides, any color besides green would look horrible on you.

  • But he's so friggin' HOT! For an older guy...right? Mmmm...Brett! Brrrrrett! Yes! Yes! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! BRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTT!!!!!!

    *sigh*

  • Yeah, I'm also sick and tired of hearing about Brett Favre... This guy should really take a decision and stick to it. I honestly thought he should have retired last year... but I guess he wanted to prove to the Green Bay Packers management that he could still play in the NFL. Anyways, he should just retire and spend as much time with his wife and kids.

  • Not hearing about Brett Farve is one the true advantages of living in one of America's non-cheesehead states.

  • @Another_Perfect_Wonder -

Well I suppose. I am a poor judge of male hotness levels. An ex girlfriend tells me that in the past couple of years Favre has gotten hotter.

  • @kachino -

Yeah he really needs to stick to a decision. His ego is being inflated when ESPN slathers his nuts by constantly talking about him and then all the teams that want his services stroke that ego by expressing interest. I think it is a horrible decision to get back into football just to give a middle finger to the Packers' management. I hate them for how they handled Favre but Favre has been acting childish about this as well. You give a hall of famer time to make up his mind however that hall of famer needs to be part of the team and not skip out on training camps because that won't solidify his offense. Favre's oldest daughter is in college. She barely knew her dad because he played high school ball, college ball, and pro ball. He should stop now so he can get to know his other kids.

  • @Curse_of_Greyface -

Wow you must not watch ESPN at all. Yesterday I think they devoted two hours talking about Favre's x-rays. For some reason I thought the Packers were the true team of America. It seems like every place I have been in this country, I have found Packer fans. One time I was in Denver and I found a bar that was decked out with Packers gear. A friend of mine was a foreign exchange student in Lithuania and he found Packers merchandise in a market over there.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

Completely agree. I have to admit, I really wanted him last year but since he was still part of the Packers, then the chances of you guys trading him to us were about the same as me getting lucky with Kate Perry. This year, I really don't want any part with him especially after that serious bicep/shoulder injury. If he's not able to participate in mini & training camps, then I just don't want him to be part of us. Although you guys are our biggest rivals with the Chicago Bears, I truly admired Brett Favre during his time at Green Bay and honestly can't believe what you Packers fans will say if he ever wears purple and white...

  • lol thanks i am glad to be back

  • He'll be back... and on steroids! ;)

  • @theladyofabundance -

You know...I have thought because how do you play 192 straight games in the NFL? And given his history of addiction to pain killers...ugh more Favre news that I would have to avoid.

  • I personally didn't read this whole thing. I can't take too much about that man. I love the Jesus and not Jesus picture!

  • Favre wants to go back to Lambo 2 more times and stick it to you guys hard really hard i would say. He wants Ted Thomson to pay i think that he single handly will take it amongst himself to win those games against you guys if he signs with the vikes. He will rush for 200 yards, throw for like 400, and even play a little tight end and catch 100 yards in both of those games. He wants to embrass the packers.

  • My uncle is a HUGE packers fan. His whole downstairs den is a Packer Fans' dream.Memorobilia all over the place. I always loved making a bag of popcocrn with him and watching a game. His step son is a Chicago Bears fan, so its always a crazy atmosphere when they play each other. I wish Farve would just retire already. It gives me a huge headache. He's going to end up getting hurt and be a useless quarterback. Rawrrr.

In response to the finals, I feel like my brain has been scraped against a cheese grater. All that's left is my ability to watch tv and munch on junk food, the basics.

  • @TiRocKiinPiinK -

Yeah, it's hard not to start hating the guy when it seems like the only thing ESPN is talking about regarding football is Brett Favre.

  • @Domond123 -

I think it is such a poor decision to want to come back just to beat a team. Oh well, it's his life. You know the NFL would be more fun if it was more like Madden football.

  • @twistedmistletoe -

That must be crazy to have a Bears fan living with a Packers fan under the same roof. Sometimes it is hard to be anywhere near my Illinois family during football. Lately it has become unbearable(pun not intended) when I go down there in summer because of the huge and bitter rivalry the Cubs have with the Brewers. I can't help it that Wrigley Field is America's largest gay bar and the only Cubs games they can get to are in Milwaukee and when people from Wisconsin see they are from Illinois they throw rocks at their car.

I have this feeling that something major is going to happen to Favre as far as an injury is concerned and all the speculation and rumors will go for naught.

Whenever I had finals I always developed the habit of smoking. My last set of finals, I come home and work until I find my teaching job. My boss sees me smoking and runs up to me and says, "stop that filthy habit." I didn't smoke the rest of summer.
