Day: March 15, 2008

  • Saturday is here.  It was a painful night last night knowing that so many were out celebrating the national holiday.  Meh, someday is what everybody tells me...someday...someday never comes soon enough.  I just have been listening to music today and decided to share some songs with you.

George Jones- If Drinking Doesn't Kill Me

George Jones- Some Day My Day Will Come

Tammy Wynnette- Stand By Your Man
(This song always helps me for some weird reason.  I do love The Blues Brothers version and the use in the movie is simply great.)

East Bound and Down- Jerry Reed (how can you not love the theme song from Smokey and the Bandit?  I think this was my ultimate driving song of course I didn't pretend to be the Bandit because I don't drive a Pontiac)

    The Rose- Conway Twitty
(Ladies and gentlemen...CONWAY TWITTY!!!!  This song was performed at every talent show in my collegiate career.  It was always sung by a girl.  I wish I would have heard this version of the song while I was in college because then I would have performed and mocked all the people who had sung it and were planning on singing it.  Conway Twitty...see I love country music back when it was ugly and well Conway singing a love song...well it don't get much uglier.)

Kiss an Angel Good Morning- Charlie Pride (I wasn't familiar with this artist at all until a few weeks ago.  My dad was working the front desk of a casino and this guy came up and asked for a player's club card so my dad worked on it and then asked for an ID.  The guy said, "Don't you know who I am?"  My dad said, "Well sir, even if I did I would need your ID number."  The guy fumbled out his ID and my dad was like oh wow Charlie Pride.  Anyway he wasn't performing at the casino but just gambling.  He is the only African American country singer that I know.)

    Hey Ya!- The Supersuckers
(there is something I love when it comes to rock covers of Hey Ya!  I don't know why but it seems like it is the perfect song no matter what style in which it is performed.)

    Boys Don't Cry- The Cure
(I just love this song and sometimes I should take the title to heart and suck it up and quit complaining but then what would life be without complaint.)

Da Da Da- Trio (This was used in a Volkswagen commercial and then took off on the music charts.  It was from the 80s but get airplay in the mid to late 90s.  You have to love German pop.  Even though German is such a harsh language this song makes a person feel happy.)

Telephone Call from Istanbul- Tom Waits
    (Love Tom Waits...absolutely love him.)

Well that is all for this week.  Hopefully I can get back tomorrow.
