Day: April 7, 2008

  • Dang Memphis is trailing in overtime.  I guess I really don't feel like writing more so I will just post some failed children's books.

  • It is a dark and dreary day as I type on my keyboard.  Then I had the bright idea to liven up my mood with music.  I thought I would share with you what music brightened my day.

Iron Man- Black Sabbath  Ok, so I am going to totally sound like a nerd again but I am anticipating the new film Iron Man.  Maybe I shouldn't go as far to call it a film because more than likely it will just be another Jerry Bruckheimer-esque explosion fest but I love the character.  He has a lot of flaws unlike that dick Superman.  I was going to include Batman but Batman is a pederast.  Anyway I am looking forward to Iron Man.

Blind- Korn  I just happened across this song and it reminded me of a concert at First Avenue.  It was billed as a woodstock type celebration complete with displays of animal brutality and how being vegan is great for the environment.  Anyway one of the first bands, The Umbrella Sequence(probably the only reason I went), opened and after their opening song they started playing the intro to this song but before they went full blown into Blind they quit and played one of their slower song.  I love The Umbrella Sequence.

Box of Rain- The Grateful Dead  I know have posted music from the Dead before but this song is so peaceful.  It is from the American Beauty album which I think should probably be in the top ten albums of all time.  I had mostly listened to the Dead through greatest hits cds or live concerts.  This was probably the first studio album I listened to.  I still remember that first time I listened to it in the entirety.  I also reminisce of one of my favorite tv shows, Freaks and Geeks, and this song was played and a turning point of one of the characters.  If you haven't seen that show, check it out.

Give a Little Bit- Supertramp  I guess this song is just one of those cheesy rock love songs that we all hate to admit that we like but when we are alone we end up singing every lyric because we know the song that well.

Every Rose Has its Thorn- Poison  I have voiced my dislike for Bret Michaels and his Rock of Love.  This new season I just couldn't get into it because it seemed like all the women are so fake.  I did watch last night and had a few chuckles but it wasn't like last season.  I have noticed that about all of the celebrity dating shows.  The subsequent seasons after the first all lose their meaning except Flavor of Love, that shit is just plain insanity.  So this song goes along the line of the last.  We all know the lyrics and of course I try to play it on the guitar when no one is around because I am too embarrassed to let people know I want to play Every Rose Has Its Thorn.

25 or 6 to 4- Chicago  I love this song.  The guitar riff mixed with the brass section is just one of those songs that gets me pumped up.  I remember it being played by our pep band during football games and strangely that is the only song I can remember them playing.  Lately I have felt like the songwriter and just can't tell what time it anymore and when a minute passes sometimes it feels like an hour.

Rock of Ages- Def Leppard  I love this song and when it comes on the radio as a tribute I only type with my right hand or I only use my right arm for other activities such as driving.  Get your mind out of the gutter...it is because the drummer from Def Leppard only had one arm.  If you want to see the best use of Def Leppard in cinema check out the classic Balls of Fury and you will see what I mean.

    You and Whose Army- Radiohead
I think one of my favorite concert memories was the time I saw Radiohead at Alpine Valley and they played this song and Thom Yorke had a camera on his piano and he was singing into the camera and winking, it was surreal.

    No Surprises- Radiohead
The first time I heard this song it brought me to tears.  Thom Yorke bares his soul in this song and his emotions can be felt by the listener.

True Love Waits- Radiohead  I often think I live in a world of leperachauns and fairy godmothers when I believe that there is such a thing as true love.  I have had hard times with love and sometimes doubt that it will happen for me but I guess I have had the opportunity so I shouldn't get down.  But maybe I am looking for the wrong things in love but anyway this song helps me think of what I may experience some day or not.

Find Love- Clem Snide  It is hard to find mp3s of this band online and this is one of the only I could find.  I really enjoy Clem Snide and maybe check out Limewire or Myspace for more especially the song Love is Only for the Lovely.

The Sun- They Might Be Giants
If there are any science teachers that read this blog, this song may help you when you teach your class about the sun in a unit about the solar system.

Let's Impeachment the President- Neil Young
Why aren't Americans protesting these gas prices?  It is ridiculous.  Ron Paul was on the right track when he said the majority of the reason we are paying inflated gas prices is because of our presence in the Middle East.  I am sickened to hear the oil companies are receiving billions of dollars in tax breaks on top of billions of dollars in profit when people are struggling to make ends meet because of gas prices and the rising prices of food and heating.  We can't take this much longer.  I am not saying impeach Bush, because it wouldn't accomplish anything although they impeached Clinton in his last year of office for getting a blowjob.  What I am saying is that we need to be critical of our policies in Iraq and the Middle East.  For some reason I thought our mission was accomplished, then why are we still there?  We were ill prepared to fight that war and now we are ill equipped to illegally occupy the nation of Iraq.

Well I will be back later this evening with some funny pictures depending on the outcome of the national championship basketball game.
