  • Election Night

It was awesome.  AWESOME!   I have told a few of you that I almost drove the three hours to Chicago to be a part of the festivities but then I am not the most knowledgeable of Chicago so I probably would have ended up in Cabrini Green once again.  It was exciting to see so many people how have never been part of the democratic process step and have their voice be heard.  I was moved when I heard Rep. John Lewis of Georgia speak about the struggles he endured during the Civil Rights movement and his disbelief that he was seeing an African American as the president elect.  Then being a student of history, I remember how it has been 40 some years since the common images of African Americans being chased by dogs, sprayed with fire hoses, lynched, and beaten permeated the nightly news.  I reflected on the words of Martin Luther King Jr. about how some day black and white would be able to stand together as brothers and sisters.  Seeing Jesse Jackson and Oprah Winfrey in tears brought me to tears.  Hearing Bishop T.D. Jakes speak about how young African Americans can now strive to be something other than a thug, entertainer, or athlete was inspiring.  Then Barack Obama took the stage and gave a speech.  I loved how the people at Grant Park applauded at the mention of John McCain's name unlike during McCain's concession speech where his supporters booed and said "Kill him" when McCain said Obama's name.  Obama's message of unity in the UNITED States of America should resonate with all those bigots.  Well here are some pictures I have collected over the campaign.  Some aren't flattering.

  • Electioneering

A friend of mine posted this on mice-pace.

    Radiohead...

Man, if they are not the Nostradamus of Music,
    I don't know who is.

This song, off of their album OK, COMPUTER came out in the Summer of 1997!

    Enjoy... "Electioneering."

    I will stop....

    I will stop at nothing.

    Say the right things...

    When Electioneering.

I trust I can rely on your vote.

    When I go forwards...

    You go backwards...

    And somewhere, we will meet.

    Riot Shields...

    Voodoo Economics...

    It's Just Business...

    Cattle prods and the IMF...

I trust I can rely on your vote.

    When I go forwards....

    You go backwards...

    And somewhere we will meet.

  • Dose of Motivation

WHAT A DAY!  My phone was ringing off the hook from robo-calls and then different party headquarters calling to make sure I was voting.  I voted.  I thought about driving to get free stuff but the closest places that offered free items were at the least 20 miles away.  No free grandslam breakfast at Denny's...damn.  Plus they didn't give me a sticker because they ran out...in the state primary which took place in February.  You would have thought they would have reordered those but with a record snowfall predicted I think "I Voted" stickers were kept off the budget in favor of de-icer, road salt, and sand.  Last year we had 130 inches of snow or so and this year they are saying 155 inches.

Everybody is talking about standing in line and long travels to the polling centers.  I walked a block to city hall.  Walked in, the little old lady with her brand new perm(you could still smell the solution) knew me but called me by my grandfather's name.  I waited two minutes to use the single electronic voting machine.  They knew I would use that darnfangled computation device because I "am into them computers".  Then as I voted I heard one little old lady ask another little old lady about who they thought I was voting for but of course it was in Czech.  "Think    he votes for the brown?"  I laughed and said "lick my balls" in German.  They laughed and said I have the same smile as my grandfather.  I then walked home.  I took the scenic route and went around the block to take in the 75 degree weather.  I was going to pick the rest of the apples off my tree but decided to leave them for the birds.  We didn't have a lot of rain so the apples are so small.  I have been combatting Asian beetles or lady bugs or whatever you call them all afternoon and evening.  I must have vacuumed up 1000.  Now it is time to motivate you.

Well I will be back.  Just want to send out an apology for my porno post.  Probably should have had a warning with that one.  I'll try to limit the photos of satirical sex on couches between the different candidates but it clearly brings more meaning to the term I heard so often in this election, "Reaching across the aisle".  OK, later.
