  • Cold

I woke up this morning and my fingers and toes were blue. See that is the body's attempt to stop blood flow to the extremities in order to keep the vital organs warm.  I went to bed and it was nice and warm and I didn't need any covers or blankets.  I'm a fool.  I look at the thermometer....-17F.  17 degrees below 0.  The wind was blowing as well so it would be even colder once I got outside.  I get ready and warm up my Blazer but no matter how warm I could get it, the wind would blow against it so I couldn't de-thaw three of my doors which were completely frozen shut.  I am going to take my mom to church so she can teach Sunday school.  I notice their driveway has been plowed shut by the wonderful city plows.  I gun it and make it up the driveway.  I love 4WD and Blazers.  My mom has her car running because she is like that.  The moment she notices that it is cold she absolutely has to go start her car.  Well she says that because my doors won't open she will have to drive.  I pull aside to let her go.  Well she goes but she stops at the bottom of their driveway to look for oncoming traffic.  By stopping she gets stuck.  I have to dig her out and push but I can't get her out alone.  Thankfully some guy comes along and helps me dig.  I am freezing.  The wind is blowing and the windchill is -45.  That is the temperature felt on exposed skin with the wind.  So my bare hands felt the temperature of -45F.  Finally she got out and went to church.  It took me a long time to get feeling in my hands.  I had early stages of frostbite. About 4 hours later, my hands are still tingling.
I guess where I am going with is my Christmas wish.  I had other things I wanted...peace, change, happiness...I think I am a fool to believe that we could have any of those.  I would also love a copy of The Dark Knight or Pirnce Caspian.  If I can't get those well I would love something but I think it would offend.  So I am just going to say it...anyone who wants to buy me a Christmas present I'd be willing to accept a one way ticket to an island paradise and a small hut on a beach where I could live out the rest of my days without concern for windchill.

    It's good to be king.
