  • As the Favre Turns

So apparently I am over the limit for my photos despite the fact that it says something like 14% usage and 4% download for the month.  I don't get it.  Maybe hose moves to new servers actually upgraded so we can no longer have free premium.  Well time to raid my coin banks to raise the $100 for Lifetime.  Maybe I will start a paypal account for some sugar momma to stake me for a Lifetime Xanga account as well as $10,000 for an entrance fee into the World Series of Poker.

Anyway onto the soap opera that is Brett Favre.

Brett has been somewhat of a demigod to us Packer fans.  He resurrected the Packers.  They traded to get him from the Atlanta Falcons and in the second game of the season Brett was put in for then starter Don Majikowski, who didn't bring much magic to the Pack, and after Majikowski tore a ligament in the next game Favre started every single game at quarterback for the Packers for the next 16 seasons.  Interesting sidenote, Brett's first completion as an NFL quarterback was to himself.  Favre almost never suited up for the Packers because during his team phyical he was diagnose with a degenerative hip disorder, the same disorder that sidelined Bo Jackson's career, and doctors recommended that Favre be failed and the trade nullified.

Brett became a legend.  He won 3 NFL MVP awards and led the Pack to the playoffs and eventually the Super Bowl.  Favre was the first quarterback to lead the Packers to back to back playoff seasons since Vince Lombardi was the head coach.  Favre was known for his late game heroics and turning Lambeau Field into a dreaded stadium for visiting teams.  Although I praise Brett, he did have his problems most notable...the INTERCEPTION!  He holds the record for most interceptions thrown as well as most touchdown passes.  I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

After the 2004 season, the Brett Favre soap opera began.  His wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and he began his retirement shtick.  Would he?  Won't he?  Every year it was the same story.  He had to be cajoled into returning.  In 2005, his family's home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, his family convinced him to return despite his want for retirement.  2006 was a horrible season for the Pack so Brett didn't want to return for 2007 but after encouragement he did.  He set so many career records in 2007 and made an impressive playoff run and would have faced the Patriots in the Super Bowl if it were not for an interception he threw.  Well it looked like Favre was finished.

March 4th of 2008, Brett Favre announced his retirement however he didn't file his papers with the NFL.  The Packers wanted an answer so they knew what they would have to persue in the free agent market as well as the NFL draft.  Well Brett wanted more time to decide and the Packers' GM and head coach weren't going to allow him that time to decide.  On July 2, Favre contacted the Pack to say he wanted to return but the Packers said they had moved forward so a few days later Favre asked for a release from his contract.  The GM knew what Favre was up to so he refused and Favre asked for a trade.  Nothing happened in Wisconsin that summer.  The only news was Brett Favre.  Then Favre came to a Packers training camp session in August and he met with head coach Mike McCarthy(a great name for Green Bay and Wisconsin...I'm talking to you history nerds) and GM Ted Thompson.  They decided that the Packers needed to move forward and Favre was not in their future plans.  Favre was traded to the New York Jets.

Favre had a mediocre at best season with the Jets.  They didn't make to the playoffs and the Brett Favre retirement watch started.  He asked for his release.  Brett said that he was going to help coach a high school football team in Mississippi and his agent Bus Cook started talking about how he was looking for a quarterback coach to work with Favre.  Well the rumors began and it was soon speculated that Brett would play for the Minnesota Vikings.  Vikings coach Brad Childress met with Favre on Thursday night and it was reported that Favre refused to sign with the Vikings and that he was going to stay retired.  Bus Cook said that Favre was retired and the quarterback coach would help Favre coach.  Well that changed on Friday.  Favre changed his mind and had an x-ray taken of his shoulder.  He may need surgery however if the Viking doctors say it is anything less than "major" surgery, Favre will sign with the team.

Personally I am sick of this soap opera.  I think Favre just loves to hear his name in the news and doesn't want that to go away.  So here, Brett, BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE

Is that enough?  Oh how are you going to be talked about in games in which you aren't playing?  Your chief dick licker, John Madden, retired.  Brett, who is going to pucker up and kiss your ass?  Is this just personal?  You really want to put your body through another season just to give the Packer organization a big F--- You?  That would be great, alienate all your fans as if these retirement watches haven't done enough to do that.  To think, I had donuts and coffee with you.

Do you really want to end up like that?  Why can't you just go and leave us with these great memories:

Brett, please retire and stay retired.  Be that devouted father you have talked about being and was one of your original retirement reasons.  Besides, any color besides green would look horrible on you.
