  • Homework Assignment 10/22

    Class, I read your last assignment and I was very pleased.  I thought picking a pill was a difficult assignment and all of you stood up to the plate and knocked it out of the park.  Everyone gets an A.

    Now here's your next assignment.

    These are your choices for a prospective mate.  Which two do you choose?  Why?

    Make sure you answer two questions clearly and concisely.  Answering all three questions gets you extra credit.

    Now get to work.

    My answers:
    A.  I usually go for intelligent and emotionally stable.  There's not much to a relationship if you can communicate with someone and if they are always threatening to kill you with a butcher's knife.

    B.  I'd like to learn Mandarin and Arabic because those seem to be the languages of the current hot water situations our country finds itself in.

    C.  Chicks, man, CHICKS!

    B. Dolphin or Spanish.  I could get more jobs if my Spanish wasn't so rusty and I could get more grant money by speaking dolphin. Imagine it, Attack dolphins! That would be kewl.

  • 1.) intelligent good looking. because emotionally stable people tend to exect the same from their partner, and I don't mind when someone isn't. I don't mind physical ugliness much either, but if I can pick two of course I don't say no to good looking.

    2.) arabic, because many people speak arabic where I live, and I feel like I am unable to acces their 'community' (for example I don't go to shops that only have arabic letters on them because I don't assume they undertand me anyway. Once I did, and it was awkward) and once two old guys were evidently talking about me on a train, knowing I don't understand anything.

    3.) because I was looking for thinspo, and wanted support in losing weight. And because I have no one to talk to. And as you see, I like talking.

  • Intelligent and emotionally stable. It doesn't say that if the person is not good-looking that they will be ugly or hideous. And 'good-looking' is just a person's point of view. In a relationship, looks don't matter so much the more the relationship grows. Of course, it's a factor in the beginning, and for most people, it's a huge one. But honestly, when I started talking to my current boyfriend 4 years ago, I was not attracted to him. I didn't consider him ugly, but I didn't think he was gorgeous or anything. But I still wanted to be around him, and I couldn't keep myself away from him. I became more and more attracted to him as we spent time together and it had nothing to do with looks. So, it really is possible to be with someone that may not be so physically attractive. And when you love someone, you love the way they look, no matter what others see.

    I would like to be fluent in French or Italian. I just think they both are beautiful languages. And they'd be useful and a good excuse for me to go to Italy or France. They just sound so sexy. And if not those, I'd pick a really ancient language. Like Sumerian or something. Just to be cool as fuck.

    I use Xanga because I'm a hermit. Ever since I had my baby, got clean, and got out of the halfway house, I really don't leave my apartment much, especially since I'm preggo again and I've chosen not to let anyone know that doesn't need to. I do it half by choice, and also because I've developed some serious social anxieties. I don't have 'friends' anymore, except for my boyfriend and my family. Xanga makes me happy, makes me feel like a part of something, and it lets me know that even people I've never met in real  life can care about me... sometimes more than people I do know. Also, for the more conventional reason, I come here to get shit off my chest, or to just say whatever I want. It's an outlet where I really can write whatever I want to about anything and no one can tell me no. It's a good feeling to know I have a place I can just write out everything I feel like writing. And I like that the only people who read it are xanga users. No one in my personal life reads this. I enjoy the feedback I get from people. But I think it'd be a bit ruined if there were actually people on here that I did know in real life, lol.

    B. I would like to be fluent in Arabic, it'd be a lot easier to get a job.

  • A. Intelligent and emotionally stable. I can't handle people who are all over the place. Hell, I hate it when I myself occasionally go up-and-down.

    B. Slovak, because that's what my family speaks. But, also German because it's a more common language. Koine Greek, Russian, Hebrew, and Arabic would be other fun languages to speak.

    C. Because I have nothing else to live for.

  • A. Intelligent and Emotionally stable. They are way more important than having good looks. It certainly wouldn't matter how good lookin' that person is if they weren't emotionally stable at least because if they weren't that could cause a lot of issues in the relationship.

    B. It would have to be Hindi. 
    C. It is just the easiest one to use. I can make the background look any which way whereas I can't anywhere else.

  • Emotionally stable and good looking. I already am intelligent but am serious lacking in the other two areas. The ideal mate should complete me.

  • A is easy.  Intelligence and Emotional Stability.  If you have ever been around someone that isn't emotionally stable then you realize how important that is.  And good looking has nothing on intelligence.  It's still nice to look at something pretty but if theres no substance behind it then it's not worth the effort.

    B French cause it's really hard to understand French documents in my family tree
    C  Im not sure anymore.  Maybe that's why I don't come here but once in a blue moon now.

  • A. Mentally stable and intelligent. I'm mentally unstable enough for two people, and I have terrible eyesight. As long as they're a step up from Frankenstein, I can live with it. :)

    B. All of them. I'd like to quit my job and get a glamorous career as a translator working at the UN or something. I'm not quite fluent in any of the foreign languages I can speak right now, and I don't have time or energy (or money!) to take further classes.

    C. Well, I blog because I like to babble and write and also I don't want any of the real-life annoying people around me to know how I feel. So I blog and write on Xanga. I came here because a friend of mine who isn't here anymore introduced me to it and I stay because I think there's some really awesome people here. :)

  • Intelligent and emotionally stable. I've dated a woman that was both of these things, and it made her far far more attractive as time went on. She had a natural beauty that I came to realize after I had originally though her unattractive.

    I would speak italian. Chicks dig italian. Plus, you can hold a conversation in spanish while speaking italian.

    I still xanga because once in a while I want to write something that I don't want all my friends to get pissed about. For example, the past few things that I have written would get me a world of grief because said friends are idiots. ... and also, I am still holding out that "My home is writing" will some day pick me as a xanga writers spotlight. IDK why that matters.... but I kinda want it.

  • Intelligent and emotionally stable, beauty fades and it doesn't always bring home the bacon.  Not to mention I don't need a man who is bonkers either..lol

    I would love to be fluent in Spanish, I know I know I'm half Puerto Rican but hey I live in the US we speak English here at least for now.
    Sometimes I wonder why I'm still on Xanga, especially with ignorant asses claiming to know something more than they actually do.

    B. I thiiiink French. Bah, I don't know, Spanish would be more useful. Maybe German, though. Although I am already conversationally fluent in American Sign Language, so maybe I should just pick that...? Wait, no, I'll choose Japanese. I think it would be harder to learn Japanese, since it seems less related to English than French, German, and Spanish, so being magically fluent in Japanese would leave me more time to gain fluency in other languages.

    C. I like talking (or, as the case may be, writing), and I like it when people listen to me. I also like that there are very few people on here who know me in real life.

  • A. I'd choose intelligence and being emotionally stable for a perspective mate. I'd choose these two qualities because people's looks can grow on you and they can be changed. Besides not being good looking doesn't mean you have to be the ugliest person ever. I couldn't deal with an unstable emotional person. They have entirely too much baggage and I'd want to punch their lights out every chance I got. I need someone who can discuss many topics, not just the crap they saw on Facebook.

    B. I'd like to be fluent in Spanish. I'd like to be fluent in Spanish because there are a lot of Spanish speakers in my area. More and more children are going to school who only speak Spanish. Dealing with a child who only speaks Spanish and 21 other children is challenging. I took Spanish during high school and college because I needed a language and thought it was pretty. I still think it's pretty and would love to use it in Valencia one day!
