  • Cold

I woke up this morning and my fingers and toes were blue. See that is the body's attempt to stop blood flow to the extremities in order to keep the vital organs warm.  I went to bed and it was nice and warm and I didn't need any covers or blankets.  I'm a fool.  I look at the thermometer....-17F.  17 degrees below 0.  The wind was blowing as well so it would be even colder once I got outside.  I get ready and warm up my Blazer but no matter how warm I could get it, the wind would blow against it so I couldn't de-thaw three of my doors which were completely frozen shut.  I am going to take my mom to church so she can teach Sunday school.  I notice their driveway has been plowed shut by the wonderful city plows.  I gun it and make it up the driveway.  I love 4WD and Blazers.  My mom has her car running because she is like that.  The moment she notices that it is cold she absolutely has to go start her car.  Well she says that because my doors won't open she will have to drive.  I pull aside to let her go.  Well she goes but she stops at the bottom of their driveway to look for oncoming traffic.  By stopping she gets stuck.  I have to dig her out and push but I can't get her out alone.  Thankfully some guy comes along and helps me dig.  I am freezing.  The wind is blowing and the windchill is -45.  That is the temperature felt on exposed skin with the wind.  So my bare hands felt the temperature of -45F.  Finally she got out and went to church.  It took me a long time to get feeling in my hands.  I had early stages of frostbite. About 4 hours later, my hands are still tingling.
I guess where I am going with is my Christmas wish.  I had other things I wanted...peace, change, happiness...I think I am a fool to believe that we could have any of those.  I would also love a copy of The Dark Knight or Pirnce Caspian.  If I can't get those well I would love something but I think it would offend.  So I am just going to say it...anyone who wants to buy me a Christmas present I'd be willing to accept a one way ticket to an island paradise and a small hut on a beach where I could live out the rest of my days without concern for windchill.

    It's good to be king.

  • Oh, you poor thing . . . I can't imagine being that cold . . . with the rest of the winter to get through. I'm wishing you super warm mittens! Good luck getting through this.

  • @jacksoncroons -

Thank you...today is the first day of winter...how fitting.

  • Weather wise this morning was at least nine on the suck-o-meter.

  • @ElevenStones -

    Happy First Day of Winter!

  • we've been under the same wind chill crap here. Not quite 45 below, but tonight it will be. I like snow and all, but this freezing cold has got to stop. I had a cold water pipe freeze today. It didn't bust, but it took a bit to get the water flowing again. I've made my New Years Resolution already, it is: The first person who acts all happy and effuses about us having a white Giftmas, well, I'm going to punch that person right in the nose.

  • The weather here has been suckage too.

  • Don't know how you survive this weather! Where do you live?

  • Dumbo me!! Greenbay WI!!

  • @watersedge62 -

I am more to the western part of Wisconsin. About an hour from the Mississippi. I use Green Bay in the name because I have an all encompassing hand on things in this state and I like the Packers.

  • @Egregious_Deviant_Zebra -

I don't mind the snow when I don't have to shovel or drive in it but this cold it just eats away at your bones. It also seems to flip the switch to make my arthritis flare up.

You know what I am sick of? The people who insist on saying Happy Holidays and the people who insist on saying Merry Christmas. It is sickening. Who cares what you say, you should be happy that someone is giving you a semi-friendly greeting. My mom received a bumper sticker that read "We Say Merry Christmas". Last night I saw a commercial for a button that reads "It's ok to say Merry Christmas to Me". I wish those people who are so against the Happy Holidays and anal about Christmas would realize that they are playing into the commercialism that they are protesting against.

I am starting to think that the CBS series Survivor is really easy when they are in a tropical climate. Drop them off, out in Walnut Grove, MN, and film that. Of course they wouldn't be wearing bikinis so people wouldn't watch it.

  • Ha! I wish I could give you that present, buddy. All I can offer is a blanket and me to snuggle with.

  • @Evolutionary_21 -

Yeah it would be nice but I think your boyfriend might not like that.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - *sigh* We're on shaky ground right now. I don't really wanna talk about it. I'm just up for cuddling.

  • If your ever up Mille Lacs Lake area stop by the park on the south end, ask them where to park to see them.
Must have been 20 last year, along with about 40 'straight' deer

  • i used to live in Southern California.. i miss that here in fridgin Philadelphia (it was 11 degrees this AM and the wind was blowing hard so i'd bet it felt like 20 below 0.

  • @ElevenStones -

I'll have to get up there sometime. I would love to get out there and get some photos. Straight deer? There was a deer park in the Dells and every year they would euthanize the older deer and then sell them. Well the Illinois tourists love that because they come up, buy the deer, strap it to the front of the Cadillac Escalades, drive back to the suburbs of Chicago, and brag to all their friends about bringing in the big buck.

  • @anth0nyc -

This morning the air temperature was warmer than yesterday, -7. There was no wind so it was like a heat wave. I don't know what I will do if the weather forecasts are correct for later this week when it gets up to 35-40.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

A friend of mine once found a nice buck while we were hunting near a friends cabin in Monroe county, he had an extra tag (for his GF) so he tagged it and we hung it up outside the cabin.
When we came in from hunting that evening the guys from the cabin next door (who were from Chicago) were posing for pictures with it.

  • @ElevenStones -

Monroe? I love that area especially around Tomah.

I have often thought that when some of those tourist types come up here from Chicago, they dop their brains off at the interstate exit.
