  • Random Thoughts

Valentine's Day is coming up and has me thinking of how alone I feel and then it reminded me of that song by Bush called Swallowed with the lyrics that go "I'm with everyone and yet not".  That is sort of like how I feel.  I am surrounded by great friends and at the same time I have a sense of nothingness around me.

I deleted a friend on facebook today because he called me an idiot(actually I cleaned that up a tad) for supporting our President.  This guy is a Christian and I quoted Romans 13 and he didn't budge.  I am pissed off with all these die-hard Christians who claim they follow the word of God but then want our country to fail because we have a guy in the White House with a D behind his name.  I guess Christians can pick and choose what they want to believe.  This means starting tomorrow I am going to go on a nationwide manhunt for people who cuss at the deaf and when I find those people, I will hurl stones at them.  Oh and I will have to start observing a kosher diet yet maybe I'll leave bacon in because that is so tasty.

More Valentine's Day stuff...I had a friend in college with whom I talked about love and marriage.  He always talked about his plan to find a girl whose birthday was on February 14th and then after a proper courtship he would ask for her hand in marriage and the date he would pick for the wedding would be February 14th.  He would knock out her birthday, anniversary and V-Day all in one shot.  My plans were to find a girl with whom I shared my birthday and because that day would be so special we would get married on that day.  Damn it...still stings...I actually had a girl that shared the same birthday.  Things didn't work.  Fuck you, distance.

I was going to reveal something about myself that would probably change your preception of me.  No, I'm not gay.  I have always wondered how people view me.  I have had people say I am rough, mean, sarcistic, witty, funny, phoney, strong, intelligent, alcoholic, exotic, average...ok I could go on...but here goes: from time to time, I enjoy a musical.  I watched West Side Story the other night and loved it.  So I am not gay but I like an occasional musical and I think unicorns totally kick ass.

ALF is on.  FTW!  There needs to be more sitcoms centered around a smart-alleck alien hiding out in a surburban household.  ALF totally was a better sitcom than the one I am trying to write.  Double Vision...me married to conjoined twins...yeah not good.

I watch Top Chef.  Half the dishes on that show are unappetizing in my book, but that may be because half the dishes have seafood and I hate most seafood and am allergic to other forms.

I was reading somewhere on the Xanga network about how pissed off people are that Obama doesn't want to give stimulus money to schools that have religious services.  Hello...separation of church and state.  I taught at a religious school and that place was funded solely on the money from the members of the church but that backfired when gas started skyrocketing and people would rather fuel their cars than give to their Lord.  Catholic schools operate under the same means, offerings and not federal money.  Sure there are some kick backs but nothing drastic.  My school never took major handouts from the government because of the stipulations that may have been attached.  I can only remember getting money for a milk program.  That school in California that had the court rule in favor of them expelling the girls from the school because they were lesbians...well, my group of Lutheranism but it wasn't because the school was a religious school.  California Lutheran High School is a charter school and therefore can enroll and expell whomever they please.  People criticize that and say discrimination however they look the other way when public school expell "dumb" kids that won't do well on standardized tests, the standardized tests that depending on the school's performance illicit federal funding.  Record numbers of home schooled children?  Yeah right.  So many of those kids have been expelled by districts so they can meet their standards under No Child Left Behind.

I'm tired.  Maybe I'll do my comic stuff tomorrow sometime.

  • Aww, real men see musicals, heck, real men even sing in musicals!

Re:  Christianity and Politics, Jesus didn't get involved, why to some Christians get violently involved?

Alf was fun, have you seen American Dad?

    Love the cartoon.

  • Personally, Mork and Mindy was my sitcom of choice.

  • @storyslut -

Ok well I will take your words into consideration about the musicals. I think I have gotten into them because I watch Family Guy and they reference musicals every once in a while and they even have musical episodes. Yes, I have seen American Dad. I have the first season on DVD and want to get the rest.

I don't understand how Christians get so riled up over politics. Christ basically said go with the flow. I saw a post today that had a picture of a fetus that asked the question of pro-lifers, if the fetus grows up to be gay will you still support its rights?

  • @Shy___Away -

Oh yeah that was a good show. I haven't seen it in forever. I remember watching that show after school and how confused I was when Mork gave birth.

  • I love musicals, and I'm not gay either. On a side note, I think due respect for the Pres is warranted whether you like him or not. I personally didn't vote for him..but I didn' for McCain either. Romans 13 is not a good tool to use for a christian. It's not allegiance to your leader/rulers/king no matter what, and many people think that what Romans 13 is about. Howver, due respect is due Obama, for that matter ALF too. HE's awesome!

  • The musical "truth" doesn't surprise me. :)

    When is your birthday?

  • Mmmm...bacon!

Nothing gay about musicals, West Side Story is a great movie. Maybe one day we can take a long walk on the beach and talk about it. And you simply must see Spamalot. Everything about that show, from the handbill they give out as you enter the theatre, through the intermission, and the cheesy special effects, will have you laughing til your insides hurt.

Funny cartoon. That joke goes back at least as far as Redd Foxx's stage show.

  • You really went all over the place on this one.

My favorite part was about the Christians. Heh, heh. Yeah, what a bunch those are, eh?  Gosh.

  • My brother-in-law is Jewish, his son's day care is a Jewish day care, he observes all of the Holy days, etc. and he can tear up some bacon...

  • You liking musicals is not a problem. But West Side Story? "When you're a Jet you're a Jet for life?"

Come on, "Grease" is where it's at (and also, "Grease is the word")

  • And finally, the best thing President Obama can do is repeal No Child Left Behind. It's horrible, not a single teacher I have spoken too (and I have three children in school) likes it. They are forced to teach to a test, not teaching for learning.

  • @bosefius - I agree. And, I am of the firm opinion that NCLB leaves behind the middle of the road student. The gap between college-ready and not is widening, and not in a good way.

  • I think your old! Not age-wise, because you aren't. But sometimes when I talk to you, I forget that you aren't like 45. Ha. No offense. Or maybe the other people I talked to your age were mad immature, because you're mad mature. Ok, I'm done rambling.

  • @Krissy_Cole -

Exactly, it's a shame. The college-ready, higher achievers are ready in spite of NCLB, the not ready are not ready. The middle of the road are not getting the encouragement and possible prodding they need to become college ready because they have to get ready for NCLB

  • @ShamelesslyRed -

ALF and musicals are a wicked awesome combination. They need to make an ALF musical. I would be there in a heartbeat.

I think Romans 13 isn't used enough when it comes to our leaders. People complain and criticize yet they forget that God put them in that position for his purposes and by criticizing them and complaining you are actually complaining about what God has done. I think you have to be careful when saying that certain parts aren't good for Christians to use because then that will illicit a picking and choosing of what you want to believe and then it lessens what the Bible is.

  • @nattata -

I guess it is my love of music and my numerous comments about how when I was in my 5 year program in college I was in choir for 8 semesters or 4 of 5 years but that was mostly all religious singing.

My birthday...you put me on the spot because I tend to forget it because I hardly celebrate it since I turned 18. Sure when I turned 21 I remembered but I wish I could forget that night.

  • @MelFamy -

I have a bacon recipe for my links entry. It looks so tasty.

I have heard a lot of good about Spamalot. Since I enjoy Monty Python I should enjoy that. Just as long as I don't have to sit through a production with Clay Aiken.

I have heard that joke many times before but this was the first time I saw it in picture form and the two ladies talking made it priceless.

  • @In_Reason_I_Trust -

Yeah I tend to go all over the place when I don't have a set topic. I think that is the ADD.

I think I mentioned this before but I was a former minister. I never got back into it because I saw so much corruption and straying from what the Bible actually taught. I think Christians are trying to become more of a political force than a religion. Now that I have had some time to rest I don't think I'll go out there and stone those that cuss at the deaf but I won't respect them. Now the people who purposefully put stumbling blocks in front of the blind...well they better look out for stones.

  • a) Bush rocks :)   I love that song.

    b) When I was single, I celebrated un-Valentine's Day with my buddies.  I ended up hooking up with someone on un-Valentine's Day, BTW.  I still celebrate un-Valentine's Day even though I'm now happily married ;)

    c) Musicals can be pretty good.  I can't wait to see Spamalot.  Loved Phantom of the Opera. Although I'm half gay so maybe you wouldn't want to take my advise ;)

    d) Everyone picks what they believe, even Christians.

    e) Bacon is the perfect food :)

    f) That cartoon strip was REALLY funny.

  • @bosefius -

That No Child Left Behind is a joke and has set back education in America. I never had those tests but I did have standardized tests that my church body had us take. My classes were way ahead of the public school average...not bragging but just a fact because the stuff that we studied as 5th and 6th grade were higher than the public school. We used a high school English book for reading class. There was one teacher at the school that would keep a copy of the test and make sure her classes included everything on the test. It pissed me off. I had a friend teaching at the public school in that town and every time the tests came up she was worried she would lose her job. Oh and I don't know if other states have this but in Minnesota they have a test that they have to take in order to graduate high school. Of course the material is at the 7th and 8th grade level and they start allowing kids to take the high school graduation test in 8th grade. I always thought that was pretty messed up because if they pass in 8th grade some kids just spend the next four years completely slacking because they have achieved their graduation requirement. I also had a cousin quite teaching because the school district labeled kids special needs or expelled them before their testing that way they could receive the federal funding. So people can't tell me it doesn't happen.

I enjoyed Grease. I haven't seen it in a while.

Bacon...normally I don't dig on swine but bacon is food of the gods. I have a recipe I am going to link in a post later today.

  • @MrsMok -

    Well...thank you...I think.

  • @ithiliya -

    A. I think Bush is an underrated band. I don't know if they are around anymore but I know Gavin Rossdale when he isn't impregnating Gwen Stefani has a solo career. My favorite song is "Letting the Cables Sleep". There is a remix of that song which I can't find now but it the best.

    B. Maybe I will have to celebrate un-Valentine's Day. I once made the mistake of deciding I didn't want to cook one night and headed out to an Applebee's. I felt so alone. Of course I had ulterior motives because a waitress there always seemed to be extremely nice to me but it was later revealed that she was just angling for tips. God, I was so slow on the uptake.

    C. I value your opinions so I will have to take some time to see Spamalot. I didn't care for Phantom of the Opera but that's me. So half-gay? Which half? Sorry...I always used that joke when kids would tell me they are half ages.

    D. That is true however a Christian can't pick and choose because they believe or are supposed to believe that the Bible in it's entirety is the inspired word of God therefore by picking and choosing they are lessening the word of God and making it their own word.

    E. I like bacon but I don't usually like pork products.

    F. I had to share because it seemed fitting with my rambling.

  • True story . . . I was on break at work and someone mentioned some song from a musical and I just burst into song . . . I hate that I love musicals, but god help me, I can't help it. Someone just has to say a line . . . I think it's a sickness!

  • @jacksoncroons -

Yeah I know what you mean. I have that same problems with movie and tv quotes. There was a class in high school where I answered every question on a quiz in movie quote form. The teacher loved it because I chose Monty Python quotes. Strangely religion and Monty Python mix quite well.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

It was a compliment. Just B style. Ha. I can't really articulate it. Maybe wise is a better word? Harumph. IDK.

  • @MrsMok -

    I can live with that.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

    I would prefer that. Thanks.
