The Music Stuck in My Head
So I have been wanting to do this post for quite some time. Xanga audio has been giving me some hassles but all is forgiven. I still haven't been able to upload this song about Minneapolis that I love. I should just type out the lyrics and let you imagine what the music sounds like.
Have you ever had that song stuck in your head and you just can't seem to get rid of it? Welcome to my world, except I have about a billion songs stuck in my head at any given moment. If you read my power rankings, you would have seen that memories made it into the top ten. Well I remember stuff quite easily. I think that is due to my education at a parochial school from preschool through 17th grade. We had to do a LOT of memorization. It has served me well however when I hear songs now they stick with me. I own at least 1000 cds not including all the stuff I have burned or downloaded. I have all those songs swirling in my head.
Lately two styles of music have been dominating my thoughts. One is the alternative rock in the style of The Flaming Lips and the other is polka. Yes, polka. My father has been in a polka band for the majority of my life. He sings and plays accordian. I dug up one of his cds and have been listening to it. I have tried to upload the songs but for some reason they won't upload. My dad says some of his other band mates want to regroup but the former lead singer is dead. I was asked if I wanted to sing. Oh, for those that don't know, I was a choir boy in college. I was in choir for 8 of 10 semesters. I was the most ass kicking choirboy you would ever meet. Anyway this one song is in Czech so I have started to attempt to learn that language. Not easy. I asked if I could just translate into German but that was blasphemy because the town in which we leave is the Czechlosovakian capital of Wisconsin. Oh well, once the audio gets sorted out I will share those songs and also share a song of my dad wailing on the accordian and singing.
Right now I am going to share some songs which have stuck with me and have some meaning to me.
This song was featured in the movie Juno. Some of my friends have said that I only like it because it was in Juno. I say, "Fuck you." I was listening to the Moldy Peaches back in 2002 when a friend at the White House(not the one in DC but the one near Little College on the Prairie) introduced them to me. I kind of like to think that I was humming that song while Diablo Cody was giving me a lap dance and thus helped inspire Juno. A guy can dream, can't he?
The Drunk Injuns were the inovators of skate punk or grind punk way back in 1983. I love this song. Remember back in the 80s for a band to release an album it was almost mandatory that they had to have a ballad-type song on said album. This is the Drunk Injuns ballad. I love it. I also loved the Drunk Injuns get-ups.
This song has been one of my favorites over the last few years. Steve Burns may not be that big of name but I guarantee that if you ahve children under the age of 10, you will probably recognize this guy. I will give you a clue. Please don't make me come out and say it....yes...Steve Burns is Steve from Blue's Clues.
Back in the day...
With Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips
Steve performing todayThe story about how Steve went from kid show host to rocker goes something like this. He was at a friend's house and the friend was playing an album by The Flaming Lips called The Soft Bulletin and it blew Steve's mind and he had to make music. It isn't surprising that Steve's music sounds much like The Flaming Lips because they inspired him and he has toured with them and his album was produced by one of the Lips. Oh and I just got The Flaming Lips most recent album called Christmas on Mars and it comes with the movie and Steve is in the movie. Another Steve Burns story(remember, I have lead an extraordinary life and have many memories): A couple of guys from my high school have a band called The Umbrella Sequence and I got a notification that they were playing the Uptown Bar in Minneapolis which is on Hennepin just down the street from Baja Sol which I begged Minneapolis people to eat at in my honor for my birthday last Friday. Anyway a friend and I were drinking some Stella Artois and talking up the bartender about all the music at that bar and he was telling us how before they got big The Flaming Lips would play that bar whenever they were in Minneapolis. It is one of the few places that books acts on a calendar so many Minneapolis bands can call them up on a Thursday night looking to play on Friday and they could get a gig. Prince did that quite a bit at the Uptown. Anyway as we were talking Steve Burns walks in. The song above is called Mighty Little Man, well Steve is TINY! I guess I am a huge guy but I had to be at least a foot taller than him and I stand about 6'2". It was an awesome show. Steve apoogized to me when I went to buy a CD because they were all sold out and he said those damn Nebraskans made me sell all my cds. I ended up buying it through his website.
Ok, this is my absolute favorite song by Prince. When I was in college we had frat parties that involved the majority of the school and every single one this song was the highlight of the party. I guess we were supporting a native son of Minnesota. Has anyone here ever seen Purple Rain? Yeah, the majority of those place, my backyard. Have you bathed in the healing waters of Lake Minnetonka? I did. When fishing I was struggling to reel in a fish and I fell out of the boat. I should stick to ice fishing.
I really don't know what this song is about. I love it but I don't understand it. I know it was in Bowling for Columbine but that's about it.
I typically dislike country music but I should elaborate and say I dislike pop-country or most modern country. This guy is great. He is Roger Alan Wade and he is Johnny Knoxville's cousin. He was featured in the movie Jackass in the end credits with the song "If You're Gonna Be Dumb". Country needs to go back to the days when the songs were about ass kickin', whiskey drinkin', and BB gun shootin'
This is a Minnesota rapper named Brother Ali. This is one of my favorite rap songs. Brother Ali puts on a hell of a show of course the last time I saw him it was on April 20th(4/20). He sings about being an albino, guess what..
It's almost baseball season so I have to post my favorite Boston Red Sox song.
Oh and this was the type of music that I sang in choir.
I hope you enjoyed a little journey into my messed up head.

Polka, honey? Really? Really?
I wanted to laugh a little bit when I heard polka, but then I remembered I have the Jonas Bro's "That's Just the Way We Roll" on my mp3 player, so I didn't.
@MrsMok -
Yes...REALLY!
@Shy___Away -
Yeah, people have the tendenecy to make fun of polka but it is folk music and we have to keep those forms of music alive.
I had no idea that the Blues Clues guy was a musician! How strange!
Anyone else but you is a cute song
@CanadianConspiracy -
Yeah that is why Steve quit Blue's Clues. He wanted to pursue his music career. Part of his going away package was that he got to keep the giant chair. He was saying at that show that he still had it but this was maybe 3 or 4 years ago. He did say that when he had parties or guests he had to make sure that people didn't try to get intimate in that chair. Apparently the Blue's Clues chair is an aphrodisiac.
My favorite line in that song Anyone Else but You is when they sing the Konami code.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
Wow and to think I totally believed the rumors that Steve was a drug addict and that's why he left Blue's Clues. I think having the chair would be cool though
And that is a cute line. I like "We sure are cute for two ugly people."
Very interesting music. I only know the movie related ones and I'm so glad that you named the films. Otherwise I'd have been busy all day with trying to figure out from where I know them!
@nattata -
I didn't think about that. Well I am glad that I didn't keep you out in the dark.
At least you don't have any sucky songs running through your head. Sidenote: I love Prince!!
I had a crush on Steve on Blues Clues and I have to admit i was a little teary-eyed when he left. I had no idea he was doing music, so thanks!!
*hugs*
@spicyhotcoffee -
well I get those from time to time, like the other day I had the Laffy Taffy song going through. Some love that song but I find it annoying as hell.
Prince...I used to drive by his mansion up there in Minnesota but he converted to Jehovah's Witnesses and moved to LA and he doesn't perform a lot of his old songs because of the content. I cried when I learned he would never perform the song I posted above or his classic Sexy M.fer. I had dreams that while he was still in Minnesota that he would come knocking on my door and try to convert me.
@msbutterfli -
I should edit this and post a current picture or at least try to find one from that show I saw
@godfatherofgreenbay - I went on you tube and looked him up, but the quality of the video for Mighty Little Man is quite grainy...ah well. He's got a website, I'll check that out later!
I sing Sexy M.fer in random places at the top of my lungs. Yes, I get a lot of blank stares, but I just don't care. My family was obsessed with him and I guess it just trickled down to me. Prince used to be my lullaby.
And Laffy Taffy isn't as bad as Chicken Noodle Soup. It's the most annoying song on the planet. It should have never been made.
I hate Juno music..
Mm, when i get songs in my head..
They are soo annoying . I listen to electronic music, electro ... and so on .
Sooooo, you can imagine.
Ps.
Now the fucking Blues Clues song is in my head. THANKS lol
That's *ahem* quite the variety there.
Oh, and I can't stand "Tessie". It brings back awful, terrible memories of when I lived in Massachusetts and the Red Sox won the World Series.
@msbutterfli -
Oh yeah I should have posted a link to his site. This site may be valuable. It has a lot of photos and videos including some of his acting roles. I haven't tried to download them in a long time so I can't tell you if they still all work. It's hard to imagine that he has been on Law and Order.
What a choice, flaming lips polka, flaming lips polka
What ever floats your boat is just fine

When I was in college weekends meant sleeping in late but I had a friend that enjoyed getting up early to annoy those of us who slept in. One weekend he came into my room and turned up my stereo with that song in and pressed play. I jump up because it is loud and he starts doing a provocative dance. did I mention he was wearing a bikini bottom and a bow tie? Yeah, that was a strange way to start the day.
I am thankful because I don't know that chicken noodle soup song. the song that didn't need to get made was that ketchup song.
@embrown88 -
I actually enjoyed the music in that movie and I think that was one of the major selling points of that movie. It needed the music to help advance the story.
@whoaaa_electro -
Oh man I used to listen to so much trance music that all I could hear after was the pounding. I wanted to put Paul Oakenfold on Mount Rushmore.
Sorry about getting the Blue's Clues song stuck in your head. The other day someone mentioned The Dukes of Hazzard and for the rest of the day I had that theme song in my head. At least it didn't make me attempt to jump my blazer over a river.
@godfatherofgreenbay - I didnt because it is not my kind of music to listen to. And it was ok but very stupid acting not the best.
@methodElevated -
I try to be eclectic in my musical tastes. My dad was a music teacher and I heard most everything when I was growing up. He would play KISS, Miles Davis, Beethoven, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Conway Twitty, and the Village People.
I like the Red Sox but I have to admit that when they won the series in 2004, I would not have wanted to be anywhere near Massachusetts.
@ElevenStones -
Yeah, people that ride in my blazer with me find my collection on my mp3 player quite strange because of the wide variety of songs I have on there. I remember cruising down I35 and listening to Led Zeppelin and immediately after Stairway to Heaven a song from my dad's polka band pops up. There needs to be some variety in life and I choose mine in music.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
Yeah, I can appreciate eclectic tastes. I would consider my musical tastes to be quite eclectic, too. But these songs... they just make me laugh. I can't get over how corny/cheesy some of them are.
@embrown88 -
I have to admit that the acting may not have been great. I still don't know why Michael Cera got rave reviews for that role. They could have put a shirt on a broom and got the same acting.
Yeah thats also my point, beacause he should be i little more better.
@methodElevated -
Yeah the Roger Alan Wade ones are pretty bad but I think it is better than most modern country. And of course the hymns...just wanted to give an idea of what I had to sing in my college's choir but it was all men so we didn't hit those high notes.
Lmao yeahh good thing you didnt.
lol
I have had a song stuck in my head for a few days. ASM mentioned it in one of her posts...I think it is by Shaggy. I can't remember the name of it, but, it is something about "creeping with the girl next door" The chorus says, 'it wasn't me'. Anyway, I have had it glued in my head since and that is just not an appropriate song for me to be jamming out to with my little kids. ha ha.
@SpongeBobScaredyPants -
I believe the title was "It Wasn't Me". I remember playing it at a dorm party. I was the dj and no one was dancing because it was the early stage of the party so I put that song on and the dorm supervisor made me change it because he said it was inappropriate.
*lol* Take the skinheads bowling... thats goofy! But its a cool song!
Shoot you in the ass with a BB GUN! *LOL* AHHH HA HA HA HA!! Ahem, but I dont condone animal violence. The guy is pretty funny...
@godfatherofgreenbay -
Chicken Noodle Soup repeats these lyrics over and over "Chicken Noodle soup, chicken noodle soup, chicken noodle soup wit a soda on the side. Let's get it, let's get it, let's get it" OVER AND OVER AND OVER!! It's horrible!!! That's the whole song!!
Bikini bottom and bowtie? Highly disturbing...
@theladyofabundance -
When I found out he was related to Knoxville I had to check out his music. I think all his stuff is like that with the old country sound and corny lyrics. I get that BB Gun song stuck in my head whenever someone pisses me off.
As for Take the Skinheads Bowling, that song is by Camper Van Beethoven a band which has an interesting history. They are pretty underground but that is their style.
@spicyhotcoffee -
That song sort of reminds me of that Peanut Butter Jelly Time song.
Yes, I was quite disturbed but the worst part was that I took the guy to Target a few days prior when he bought the bikini bottoms.
Sorry; wouldn't let me reply on the audio. Mayday Parade sings the song :]
@FallenReign -
Hmmm I have never heard of that band but they sound familiar.
