My Least Favorite Comedians
In my recent Celebrity Round-Up I made fun of Dane Cook. It got me thinking, "Who are my least favorite comedians?" Everyone puts out favorite lists but no one ever touches the worst. Of course it is subjective and personal taste but to me these people are the absolute worst.
#5 Paula Poundstone/ Kathy Griffin

This is a strange question, but do you think anyone has benefited from the tragedies of the terrorist attacks of 9/11? If you answered Paula Poundstone, you would probably be correct...no I am not going to go into how Dick Cheney's stock in Haliburton rose by 4000% during his time as vice President. Paula Poundstone had a bit of a drinking problem and she got liquored up during the summer of 2001 and drove her kids to an ice cream parlor. Well workers at the parlor noticed and called the police after she left. Paula was arrested for drunk driving and child endangerment. To make matters worse she was also charged with committing lewd acts upon a girl under the age of 14. Then 9/11 happened and the media had a new focus and Paula slipped through the cracks. She received probation and was barred from being a foster parent. Now she uses all those experiences for her new material because apparently child molestation jokes are the new "in". Well Christopher Titus got a couple years out of a horrible sitcom based on his jokes about his dad beating him. The Minneapolis library system was set to have a rally to get kids and adults to read in 2006. The original comedian scheduled was Kevin Nealon but he canceled so they booked Paula Poundstone. Numerous schools dropped out of the program after she was booked....gee I wonder why? I really don't need to explain Kathy Griffin. She is just plain horrible and unfunny. I think her whole career has been based upon the character she played on Seinfeld. She wasn't funny then and she isn't funny now.#4 Jeff Foxworthy

Is it the mustache? The pseudo-mullet? I can't stand this guy. I just want to rip that silly 'stache off his lip. That show he hosts on Fox, Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader, is fitting since the last time I laughed at a Foxworthy joke was when I was in fifth grade. I hate the redneck jokes and then all the other "you might be a..." jokes that he spawned. The worst was when I was living in southern Minnesota. It was the southern part of the state so people took that to mean that they were actual southerners. One of the houses that was across the street from my place held some of the biggest troglodytes I have ever seen. They were Foxworthy fans and one night they were drinking the southern Minnesota staple, Michelob Golden Draft Light, complete with olives in the glass, which we call a Minnesota Martini, and they started in with Redneck jokes. The winner: You may be a redneck, if'fn you're me! HAHAHAHAHAHA....yeah that was the same guy who destroyed his front door and couldn't fix it so they used the side window on the porch to enter and exit the house.#3. Larry the Cable Guy

Ugh...this guy. I had students constantly saying his line...GIT-R-DUN! Also the neighbors I mentioned above would at all hours of the night scream "GIT-R-DUN!" Oh it was so bad. How can a bigot get so famous? Well, Larry has said that he speaks what America thinks so I guess that means everyone in America is a racist and homophobe. He's a fraud. Take some time and look up his early work under his real name. I really loved seeing him in a perm and Cosby sweater and telling jokes about cubicles.#2. Carlos Mencia

This may come off as racist but it's not; I just hate Carlos Mencia. If he is the most talented comedian to come out of Latin America, then I am surprised more Americans aren't clamoring to put up a 50 foot fence with barbed wire that packs a 50,000 volt punch. Carlos is a thief. He has stolen from Joe Rogan and numerous other comedians. Do yourself a favor an look for his feud with Joe Rogan. It got very heated and there were times when Rogan would confront Mencia and they almost came to blows. Also one of the funniest things I ever heard concerning Carlos was when he was doing a radio show and talking about a skit he was working on for his show, whose format was basically a rip-of of the Dave Chappelle Show. It was something about the Olympics for the deities of world religions. Well they did air it but after Carlos hung up the DJ said that they would never have Carlos on the air because he stole the bit from them. He then played the skit they aired a year prior that had been floating around the internet. Oh and another reason I hate Carlos Mencia, his catch phrase was "dee dee dee." WTF? I think his thievery caught up with him and eventually his show was canceled and I have not seen him do any performances but low and behold CNN paraded Carlos Mencia out to speak about Hispanic Americans thought about healthcare. WTF?#1. Dane Cook

Sweet Jesus I hate this guy. I blasted Carlos Mencia for thievery. Cook is just the same. Do a youtube search for him and Louis CK. There is one video that shows how Dane took Louis CK's act verbatim but gave his strange twist to it. That strange style...where did he get that from? When he was writing out Louis CK's jokes did he think to himself, "How do I make this better? I GOT IT! I will say the joke in a normal voice, repeat it in a strange voice, and then shout it! I AM A FREAKIN' GENIUS!" Yes that is his style. Say the joke, repeat it in funny voice and then scream it. I guess when people hear someone yell it is funny. I think I have only laughed at Dane Cook twice. Once was during a stand-up routine and I had a few too many beers and seeing him run around stage was cool because my eyes were having a difficult time focusing. The other time was when his brother embezzled millions of dollars from him.I swore I would never do this but let me ask you:
Who is your least favorite comedian?
Comments (57)
You pretty much hit the nail on the head with Dane Cook there. I think the worst thing about him is the sickening amount of overhype he receives. If I hear one more person mention that he's the "funniest person ever", I swear.....
I don't mind Dane Cook. Not a fan, but he does not bug me. I would have to say Carlos Mencia right now.
You're #5 would both be pretty well tied for #1 with me. I don't hate them, but their "comedy" leaves a lot to be desired. There's another cpmedienne whose name I can't think of, who is always at the celebrity roasts, and is so foul-mouthed I can't stand her.
I don't really hate any of them......one comedian I can't stand, though, no matter how funny other people think he is, is Katt Williams!
I mean, just the "N" word over, and over, AND OVER, like he's trying to get you to accept the imbecilic concept that "n#$!@" can be turned into a positive word. Fuck no it can't!
Good list. By which I mean I agree. I used to like Foxworthy and Cook, and then I grew up. And besides, all of Cook's jokes suck big floppy donkey cock now.
I also don't like Margaret Cho and Joan Rivers.
I'm actually not a big fan of comedians. I don't find most things funny because apparently I lack a sense of humor. I've never heard of this Paula woman. I had a roommate that LOVED Larry the Cable Guy. Her & her family even made Christmas cards using his stuff. It was sooooooooooooo annoying!
Dane Cook has said some things in his act I can definitely relate to, I'm not a big fan of him, but he's funny to me.
Carlos Mencia isn't funny. He has such a public and vocal growing group of people saying he's not funny I think his days are numbered. Gilbert Godfrey was funny until last night on Joan Rivers roast, I don't know what he was thinking taking more of a dig than poking fun at Robin Quivers being molested by her father. He got the least laughs of anyone, that little albino California Raisin.
Carlos Mencia sucks ass. I don't mind the others. In fact I like Dane Cook. I can't really think of any others that I truly dislike, but one of my friends has issues with Bob Saget.
carlos mencia, he can get really cruel....especially of his own race. its hard to listen to...i dont know why
all of those people are not very funny. i'd add Dat Phan, too.
Will Farrell. He just seems so juvenile.
i actually like mencia. i dont care if he steals stuff.
my favourite would seinfeld. very original
I hate how Bob Sagget or however you spell it thinks cussing in every sentence makes things funny.
I completely dislike Ralphie May, Monique, Jeff Foxworthy and his gang, Cedric The Entertainer, and especially Carlos "Ned Holness" Mencia. Dude's a fake, racists, and not funny.
My brother would looooooove you for calling out Mencia
I completely agree although i didnt know Paula poyndstone was still around..
Pretty good list, i certainly hate Dane Cook, however I would move Carlos Mencia behind Foxworthy, and Larry the Cable Guy can really make me laugh... but the key with all the guys on this list is that they are so overrated, especially Cook and Foxworthy.
I think you should make a post of your favorite comedians now.
Course there's that one show where he wants to break and enter, but all he does is kick in a door or two.
I have never heard Larry do any homo or racial jokes, but that may be due to my not seeing his club act. What I have seen of him, I got a kick out of, but then, I am an honorary southerner. I did see Foxworthy, and he was funny as hell, and ne did not do the 'you might be a redneck' routine.
My least favorite? Probably Ellen Degeneres, and I don't dislike her. But her club act never impressed me.
i don't like any of these people. I love Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock is pretty funny.
These people are retarded. Bob Saget is a GENIUS.
@Garistotle -
I am glad I didn't title this post "Dane Cook is the Funniest Human who has Ever Lived"
@lonelywanderer2 -
You are probably thinking of Lisa Lampinelli. She is big and boorish. Half her act is basically why black guys are better than everything and then other half is her insult comedy ala Don Rickles.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
That's the one!
Mencia by far, never liked him
Dane cook i liked in the beginning, but he seemed to gradually degrade as his fame exploded, which actually brings me to the downfall of most entertainers... when they are struggling artist they dont get many gigs and thus dont have to come up with a mass quantity of quality material consistantly. But as time goes on and their fame grows they start hitting the stage much more rapidly then before and are now thrust into having to shoot out new material far more rapidly and when you tend to speed things up quality suffers and they get desperate and possibly steal old material they dont think anyone knows about.
@Paul_Partisan -
I have yet to figure out why CNN is bringing him out to talk about healthcare. Maybe they are prepping him for his own show since they no longer seem to have D.L. Hughley.
Also, I must now put Lisa Lampinelli at #1, and move Paula Poundstone & Kathy Griffin to #2
@bitterbittenrockinblonde22 -
Ah yes...Katt Williams. I tried watching one of his specials after a friend told me I would enjoy it. I watched the whole thing and couldn't believe I subjected myself to his act.
@methodElevated -
Thanks. I have heard a lot of negative things about Margaret Cho. It has been such a long time since I have seen her act but the time I saw it was when she was still half in the closet and not all tattooed.
And Joan Rivers....I don't know where to start with her. She should have tied with Foxworthy.
@TiRocKiinPiinK -
Christmas cards featuring Larry the Cable Guy...I just shuddered.
Paula Poundstone was somewhat popular in the late 80s and early 90s. She was also a regular panelist on some gameshow that my mom always watched and I found her annoying.
@Afrostronomy@hoodstars -
The strange thing with Mencia is that I saw him on CNN again this afternoon. I wonder if they are trying to prep him to have his own show like D.L. Hughley had for a while but this time from a Hispanic point of view.
Gilbert Gottfried is insane. I cannot stand his acting but his voice is so unique that it is featured in a few cartoons. I was blown away when I learned he was the voice of the Afflec duck. But yeah, those roasts...there are some things that should be off limits. He had a joke cut out of the roast of Hugh Hefner. He couldn't get a direct flight to California, he said, because “they said they have to stop at the Empire State Building first.” The roast was 3 weeks after the 9/11 attacks.
@MrsMok -
I am happy that people are supporting my disgust of Mencia. Bob Sagat blew my mind after I saw his act back when he was on Full House and America's Funniest Home Videos. Now if only Dave Coulier could get that obscene...I would write a Full House reunion.
@bluedreamer85 -
Yeah...I think one of the reasons why his Comedy Central show was canceled was because of complaints from Hispanic groups.
@elelkewljay -
Ah...Dat Phan. I have only seen him perform once and that was a few years ago. I only laughed because his description of his father moaning and groaning was just like my dad.
@Ampbreia -
True...I think his key to success in the movie business is the same as Dane Cook's; they both yell and loud things make people laugh.
@talhashahidk -
So if I am ever in a picnh for something to write about I'll just pull a Mencia and come over and take from your blog...;)
Yes, Seinfeld is great. So many comedians these days mimic his style.
@XxRainyxMondayxX -
You must have seen him do the aristocrats joke. I just remember sitting speechless after seeing him do a late night act around the time he was the host of America's Funniest Home Videos and was a star on Full House. I could never believe someone who cussed like that could offer such great advice for his daughters on a weekly basis.
@Lithium98 -
I remember seeing Ralphie May do an act and for 5 minutes he did a cabbage patch dance and kept saying "I'm not that guy, I'm not that guy." I had no clue what he was talking about.
Cedric the Entertainer was never very entertaining to me.
For awhile I toyed with the idea of adding "dee dee dee" to some of my blogs when I would get a strange comment but then I would have stolen it from Mencia which means I sunk to his level.
@NoGraySunflowers -
Thanks...I know I shouldn't be so mean but he shouldn't be such a thief.
@assercize -
Poundstone has basically just started coming out of hiding and it's so sickening that her act now revolves around all her legal problems.
@geegooman2323 -
yes, overrated is probably the best word for all of these people.
I was thinking of the best list after I posted this but there are so many and then there may be some that people have never heard. Also I thought I may have to make lists based on the style of comedy.
@Voltair -
Is that Mencia?
@MelFamy -
Larry was on the Leno show a couple years back promoting his movie Health Inspector and he made some joke about what do you call a fa-(he had to stop himself before he said fag)Indian and he said a brave sucker. A few nights later he changed the joke and did say "faggot injun".
See I have not seen much of Foxworthy's non-redneck routine. I tried watching his tv show. I wish that could have been better. It wasn't bad. It's just those redneck jokes...they really marketed the snot out of them.
I could have included Ellen but lately she doesn't annoy me. One of my roommates had a cd of her routine and I didn't find it that funny. She just has this awkward delivery.
@SpongeBobScaredyPants -
It was so funny how much Mencia copied Chappelle's Show. They may as well have called it Chappelle's Show.
@Drakonskyr -
I saw him in The Aristocrats and couldn't believe he was Danny Tanner. I also remember an act from during his heyday over at ABC. The set looked almost exactly like the set on America's Funniest Home Videos and he was cussing at a screaming baby in a crib.
@houston64 -
You know you are so true about how fame changes things for comedians. It's the same thing for bands. Look at how many people have accused Coldplay of stealing material for their last album especially that song Viva La Vida.
Yes yes & yes!! I think another one on that list should be Sarah Silverman
@godfatherofgreenbay - Yeah, he just gets disgusting after a while. If I hear that word enough I probably will get the urge to punch said person in the face or throw up
Somebody is going to hate on me for this but I'm not exactly a fan of Sarah Silverman. I mean, sure her show had it's charm but if anyone has actually seen her stand up act....well....the shock value and cuteness of a pretty girl with the mouth of a dimestore crack whore can only keep one engaged for so long you know. Wit is far more important than just going for shock value.
I'm definitely not a Dane Cook fan either.
And how is that Dude with the puppets right now? I'm sorry...I can't stand him.
My faves: Patton Oswalt, Flight of the Concords, Dave Chappelle, Eddie Izzard, Ricky Gervais, Jon Stewart, Stephen Cobert.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
Nah, Cook.
@mZdejavuZ -
But she's so beautiful
@ExposedWrists -
Yes, that movie she did of her act plus some skits, Jesus is Magic, was truly bizarre and had a high shock value. I look at her and remember when she was this bright eyed girl on Saturday Night Live and I still think she is that way and that whole thing between her and Jimmy Kimmel with the song "I'm F*ckin' Matt Damon". I agree but I think I was obscured by her looks and her Comedy Central show.
Jeff Dunham is with the puppets and it is sickening because so many people are running around quoting him in my little town. It's as bad as hearing Git-R-Dun. I think the worst thing is that they are supposedly making a movie around his puppets. Oh well I just have to weather it out for another year or so because it seems like every 30 years a comedian has a huge hit with a ventriloquist act and then people get sick of it. There was that one guy in the 40s, Edgar Bergen(father of actress Candance Bergen) and his dummy Charlie McCarthy and then in the 70s it was Willie Tyler and Lester.
Huge props for Patton Oswalt. I like your list of faves.
Dane Cook is the best stand up comedian to ever live.That's my opinion at least. But he's funny.He made my rib hurt that's how funny he is. For all you haters get a life and stop hating on Dane just because he's a sexy lady's man,rich,and funny
@jestiny1 -
If you say that Dane Cook is the best comedian to live you are sorely mistaken. Plus if you say that then you have to concede that all of the comedians that Dane Cook stole his material from are the greatest comedians of all time. I don't hate him because he's a ladies man or rich. I hate him because he is a thief who stole the majority of his act.
hmm looks like you're right ...i guess we hadn't "virtually" met yet when you posted this
...but o.m.g. i am with you about Kathy Griffin ...it actually hurts me to watch and/or listen to her ughhhh... i'm with you on most of these really lol ...as for Dane Cook, i don't really know enough about him to say either way ...although my brother is always telling me bits of his that he thinks are hilarious lol
@Peridot21 -
The episodes of Seinfeld that featured Kathy Griffin were my least favorite episodes and from time to time I will deny they exist.
NO DANE COOK IS BAD!
@godfatherofgreenbay - haha ...same! (re your first point) ...and ok ok, got it ...DANE COOK = BAD
