So last night I rolled off Xanga at around 1:30AM. I tried to sleep. It was near impossible. I laid there going through all sorts of scenarios. I even dug out my funeral plans and laid them out on my coffee table in sealed envelopes "just in case". I am heavily relying on friends and family to send me off with a blast. I don't want people crying and wailing...well unless my family sees fit to hire professional wailers like they did in the Biblical times...I want people to remember me as how I lived. I am planning on having a massive kegger. Some how I will get the word out over Xanga.
I think I finally fell asleep about 3:30 and then woke up at 4:30 because I had to be on the road by 5:15. I am glad I left earlier than that with my parents because it was foggy despite the douchebag weatherman saying there was no fog. Screw you, WKBT. I also had to drive through Amish country and that sucks balls because you can't see their black buggies in the fog until you are on top of them. I hit a bump and my mom spills her drink all over herself so we have to stop at a gas station so she can change. She always brings extra clothes when going to medical conferences because she doesn't know if she is going to have go elbow deep into a corpse. Well her class today involved advance cardiac resuscitation. She didn't tell me if she got to play with any hearts. Did I mention I had a student whose father was a brain surgeon and the dad brought in a human brain for the kids to examine? How would you like a group of pimply and awkward 7th and 8th graders poking at your brain?
Well we got there and right next to the hospital and college campus was a laundromat and coffee shop. God, coffee is a racket. They should seriously investigate them instead of investigating me just because I like to hang out with fellow Italians and find stuff that fell off trucks. $5 for a caramel machimoroni is a tad excessive.
Then I go to Walgreen's. Candy corn flavored Dots. "Hey you have blood tests. You can't have those." Of all the times you begin to be a parent when I want to eat my delicious candy corn flavored Dots. I waited but of course they melted in the sun.
My dad and I go to the lab and have blood drawn. It was so torturous that I thought they were tying me up to be drawn and quartered. I hate needles and the ilk. I have panic attacks when they draw blood. I faint. Fluid that is inside of me for a purpose must remain inside of me.
The doctors are back-ordered so we have two hours before the appointments. I go downtown in search of a Christian bookstore...sort of like trying to find a port in a storm. It was out of business as were so many stores in the downtown district but I got to see the WORLD'S LARGEST SIX PACK OF BEER! Dad wants to eat at McDonald's so I go to Burger King. I feel like royalty when I dine at their fine restaurants plus I love cardboard crowns.
Back to the hospital. Doctor comes in and sighs. That's not a good sign. "Well...I don't know what to say but...the tests are inconclusive." Apparently my tests indicate that I could have cancer or not have it. A few numbers cancel each other out. He has no clue. Exploratory surgery? X-Rays? Cameras up the butt? Why spend the money? I went through that all before and got the same answers. More steroids, which I can't deny is a bad thing. They improved more than just my lungs and appetite.
As I was waiting for my dad to get done I saw a former Green Bay Packer. Gilbert Brown is now the head coach of an upstart indoor football team. I told him I was going to be at try-outs. He said he looked forward to seeing me there. We are such liars.
Dad gets out to the lobby and doesn't say a thing. Bad news. Finally he breaks down and says he has to come back in a few weeks to consult with a surgeon. Christ...he is going to be on kidney dialysis and needs to get something put in for the dialysis to begin. He took it bad. I don't know how to react. He gets bad news and I get no news and in this case I think no news is bad news.
We went to eat lunch and he didn't say a word. He was scared shitless. I've never seen him like that.
I stopped off at a dollar store because everything's a dollar and most all the bath and beauty products are made by the people who make the brand name stuff but they just put it under a generic label. Like a bottle of Axe goes for what $5? The stuff I picked up was the same scent and the same company but under a lame name like Score Big. I am set until there is snow on the ground for body spray, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner.
The H1N1 is turning me into Howard Hughes. Every time I see hand sanitizer I have to use it and then I have to use it a second time because I may not have killed enough the first time. There was hand sanitizer stations all over the city. Probably because those college kids are filthy but that is because that town boasts the world record for most bars on a single street. I think I am going to enjoy life and head there next weekend for Octoberfest. Ein Prosit!
Then my dad asked if we could go up into the bluffs. It was eerie because the night before a young girl fell off the bluff because she was stupid and climbed over the safety fence. I will have to post the photos tomorrow...not of the stupid girl but of the bluff and my trip.
On the way home I noticed that a farm was for sale. Not just any farm but an organic farm. 105 acres plus house and barns. Hmmm I have always wanted to harvest organs, especially the pipe organs that are in cathedrals.
Then we picked up my mom back at the hospital and then I came home. I crashed and woke up just in time for The Office.
I think this would solve the housing problem.
In my last post I gave you one of the questions I was asked in religion class. BDSM isn't a sin unless it involves Legos.
Lego Steven Hawking...you know if I had talent and Legos, I would make Lego versions of my Xanga readers. It would be awesome if I had talent...and Legos...Santa, that's a hint.
I have hope that there is someone out there even for me.
We have found the Shroud of Vacation.
I am going to have nightmares about this tonight.
In case you ever needed the United Kingdom explained.
Geography doesn't agree with MSNBC much like reality does not agree with FOX News.
I feel like a drink, who is with me?
There are a lot of people out there who are curious when it comes to trying Krispy Kreme doughnuts(you may have to enlarge). People got fired for that stunt and Krispy Kreme denied that their product was that good. I wonder if there is a correlation between their denial and the rising number of Krispy Kreme stores closing.
Yes...and now I have C&C Music Factory in my head...Gonna Make You Sweat!
FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDOOOMMMM....within in defined parameters. Mel Gibson would be proud.
So I was thinking about religion and atheism. In the Mormon religion there is a belief that states that individuals have to ability to become a god. Now if atheists deny there is a god would that mean if they deny the Mormon teachings that they are denying the existence of mankind?
So the other day I read somebody's blog about how Kurt Kobain's family was suing Guitar Hero for using his likeness in the game. I had this pop into my mind.I am evil, inconclusive, and Hunter Thompson has worn of on me. He is infectious.

lolcat.
i would give you legos haha
Legos are the shit.
Enjoyed this, especially the legos and krispy kreme : )
How was the Office? I missed it!!
I'll probably watch it on Hulu this weekend when I have time.
What a day! I hope you and your Dad get some better news from the medical dept. ASAP. I know what you mean about driving in Mennonite country. I was working over near Kitchener and the same thing, it gets really foggy around there and those dark buggies are hard to see sometimes. I've heard of 3 accidents nearby just this past month. Oktoberfest!! Almost forgot it's coming soon. Time to head over to "The Blue Moon" for some schnitzel and a few beers. Yummy stuff.
Now, I'm off to play with my Lego.
See ya' later G.
sorry about your dad and your own non-prognosis. i love the cat picture.
and unfortunately for statues most get defiled if they are not secured behind cages.
That statue picture is ironic. I like it!
hire wailers and raver girls! you could have everyone show up to that farm.
i also would love to be able to create such amazingness from legos...maybe one day. oh, and, i LOVE that vader suit! i want it!
Everybody dance now! good song ...i just went and watched the vid on youtube ...it's pretty pimpin' for bein' so old
My best wishes to you with all you're going through... *hug*
but i see a dude in the MILF realtors picture.... haha
I'm really sorry about both your dad's and your's news. I will be praying for the both of you.
As usual, funny stuff.
Really sorry to hear about the health problems with you & your dad. I hope they figure out your diagnosis soon...that's got to be freaking you out.
So sorry about your no-results tests and your father's bad-results tests. Sometimes limbo can be worse than Hades - just not knowing and realizing that you've only succeeded in requiring more tests to be done on yourself.
Loved the pics and especially the notes. So many good ones, I can't name them all.
"Legos and talent" - haha, you are so funny!
Hahahaha!!! No Megan Fox mention? How she bomb at the box office?
@BranmacFeabhail -
AWESOME...I was actually in a Walmart pricing Legos today. I can't believe how much they cost. I think I will stick to the generic blockos.
@methodElevated -
I had some Army LEgos as a kid and I was like "Hey look...I made a large brick." In 1st and 2nd grade on Fridays the teacher had a special table set up where at assigned time, we could play with Legos. It was more kick-ass than Show and Tell.
@storyslut -
Thank you...I remember hearing about that Krispy Kreme feature and how the guys in the studio got fired for it. They were interviewed by the competition and they made a fuss out of freedom of speech. It was too funny.
@mZdejavuZ -
The Office was actually pretty funny. I loved how Michael started rumors to stop a rumor and one of his misinformation rumors turned out to be true. And once again Andy proved to be a great character.
I am debating whether or not I want to run more tests because when I had them before they were inconclusive so why waste teh money.
@dikdoktor -
Today was fun driving through one of the Amish communities. I hit "rush hour". They were letting out of church and I got stuck behind a parade of buggies but it was cute to see all the little kids in their plain black suits and dresses with white aprons.
I also fear picking up the nails from the horse shoes in my tires, which has happened a few times already.
The Octoberfest I plan on hitting is one of the largest in the US.
@NightlyDreams -
Yes, it's sad that people can't let statues alone. There is a high school nearby that had to change their mascot. They were the Indians but WI said that schools can't have Native American mascots unless the tribes give permission. The tribe wasn't pleased with Indian so they are now the Wolves. They just got a huge wolf sculpture and it looks so goofy. I think it is smiling. I need to get photos.
That cat photo scares me.
@florida2008 -
I couldn't stop laughing when I first saw that statue and then Mel Gibson's cry of freedom popped up in my head.
@entendezmavoix -
YES...A RAVE FOR A FUNERAL! I am so there...wait. That would be awesome to have the cage dancers dancing while a pastor is speaking and they play the occasional hymn.
I've always secretly wanted a Boba Fett uniform but now it isn't a secret.
Like I have said before, the extent of my creativity with Legos was making larger blocks or bricks.
@Peridot21 -
My favorite use of C&C Music Factory's song is from The Simpsons when Homer takes Bart to a steel mill because Homer was worried that Bart may be gay.
And thank you for the wishes and hug
@its_me_katie -
Thank you so much, that means a lot.
Oh and maybe they have the dude for women who buy houses or maybe if they aren't into MILFs.
@joiwinds -
Thank you...this has been freaking me out for over a year now. I had really bad pneumonia last summer and after that I just went downhill with all sorts of problems. Then I started getting better and then have a relapse. Now it is going down again. Every time they think they have it pinned, something contradicts the diagnosis.
@curiousdwk -
Thanks, my dad is taking it pretty hard. Today I was at my great uncle's birthday party and my dad was seeing that he is the oldest of his generation and my uncle is pretty much the last of his generation left in the family besides his wife. It puts a lot of things into perspective.
@nattata -
Thank you...I shouldn't be so hard on myself about not having talent. I just don't have much Lego talent. I forget which grade you teach but when I was in 1st and 2nd grades the teacher brought out a table where we could play with Legos if our work was all finished and we had to behave otherwise the entire class lost Lego privileges.
@Manstration -
No Megan Fox...I am beginning to believe that if I don't mention her, she won't exist and that is excellent in my book. I didn't see the box office figures but I would be shocked if Jennifer's Body didn't come in first.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
i've always wanted a Princess Leia costume, lol. although spelled differently, my name's pronounced like hers and so i've secretly wanted to possess any of her costumes. so if you get boba fett, and me as leia, we'd just need a few more people to dress as other characters and we could...i don't know, be awesome. and go to a rave. i haven't been to one yet. we should make this happen!
and, you know, not at your funeral. you'd make a miserable boba fett in that state. it just would not do. so you would do well to get yourself healthy.
this one time, with legos, i made this thing that almost kind of resembled a house. it blew my mind because it quite literally was thinking outside the lego box. there were other geometric shapes involved in this endeavour. it was incredible.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
It bombed. What a shocker. People said her acting sucked as well.
What a shocker.
@entendezmavoix -
I have a bad mental picture of a guy in a Boba Fett costume in a casket and when the funeral is over, they lower his visor and then close the casket.
One of my uncles was offered money to let a group host a rave on his farm. See where I live is a major tourist destination in the summer drawing people from all over the Midwest. Anyway he got offered a huge amount of money and took it.
I once made a Lego car and I was in tears because it actually rolled.
@Manstration -
I am shocked tht it bombed since she is the current Hollywood it girl and vampires seem to be the current popular trend. Also the commercials air during every commercial break. Wow...I am stunned.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
It bombed because it was a piece of shit. At least, according to the reviews.
@godfatherofgreenbay - Oh that's a cool idea!
@Manstration -
Well all you need to know is in the commercials: hot girl and nerd girl are friends, nerd girl gets boyfriend, hot girl becomes vampire, kills nerd girls boyfriend, nerd girl and hot girl come to understanding but nerd girl secretly plots to kill hot girl, nerd girl kills hot girl but eventually becomes vampire and then becomes hot girl...or at least that is what I imagine what happens
@godfatherofgreenbay -
LOL yeah Andy is a great character -- He's probably my favorite out of all the characters. And as for your inconclusive test results, maybe you need a second opinion?
@mZdejavuZ -
This was my second consult with a specialist.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
there's this college night thing at a grocery store. i'm going to buy legos and build something. what should i build?
@entendezmavoix -
A shopping cart and then Lego food, it could be concept art.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
well they could claim it's a werewolf
just half changed! actually i think that would be a really cool mascot i'm surprised no one has thought of it before. personally i think they should have been able to keep the mascot an indian if the mascot was there before the law was made. i grew up and went to a school that has a warrior for a mascot. i loved it. so tribal... we were feirce!
@godfatherofgreenbay -
*sigh* i did not get any legos. sad day. they were really expensive and were all kits to build some sort of pop culture monstrosity. legos will remain on my list of things to acquire, however. you can be sure of that. for now i'll have to stick to nerf guns and baby dolls. lol
@entendezmavoix -
Nerf Guns and baby dolls...interesting. I have a baby doll story. There was this town that I would drive through on my way from home to college. This one house had a creepy facade and then in the upstairs window there was a porcelain doll hanging inside. It looked like it was dangling by a hangman's noose. This has been a notorious roadside attraction. Well one of my classmates stopped at the house and asked the people about it. They hadn't placed it there but it was part of the mortgage agreement. The people that lived there before them had a mentally handicapped daughter and the children of the town tormented her. One day she couldn't take it anymore so she hung herself. The parents were so ticked off at the community and how no one apologized that they hung this doll in the window as a visible reminder for everyone who drove past. It was on the main highway that ran through town.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
wow. that's terrible...good for the parents though. meager vengeance for the cruelty that drove the poor girl to suicide. that's just a really haunting image, too.
my story isn't quite so...daunting? i guess that's the word. it'll do. anyway, i'm the Nerf Club president at my university. it's pretty awesome. we modify nerf guns in our spare time. and i bought a baby doll because we have this table in my house that looks like a cage. but it's small. so we called it the baby cage. then we saw trainspotting and decided we should put a baby in the baby cage, head turned around, crawling along the underside of the table. basically, we're a bunch of freaks who mutilate childrens toys for our perverse entertainment.
if my display of unforgivable nerdiness here drives you to endlessly mock me, i would not be surprised.
@entendezmavoix -
Oh man...Trainspotting turned me off of having children.
The Nerf Club thing actually sounds quite cool. Have you ever seen a great movie entitled Rushmore? It stars Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray. Anyway Jason is a high school student at a prep school that starts all sorts of clubs. I took his lead and tried that in college...Kite Flying Appreciation Society...Go-Karts are for Lovers...Frisbee Flingers...it was basically the goofy facebook groups before facebook existed.
If I ever go through that town and remember, I'll have to snap some photos.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
i haven't seen it. i'll add it to my list of movies to watch.
my university definitely has those funky clubs. if you've got an interest, we've got a club for it. Frisbee Flingers would probably be equivalent to our DIRT, though. they're the ultimate frisbee team.
@entendezmavoix -
You have to watch all of that director's movies...Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tennenbaums, The Life Aquatic, Darjeeling Limited.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
i started watching The Life Aquatic at one point. but i think i started it pretty late, so, i was falling asleep. i ended up turning it off and i don't remember any of it. but darjeeling limited was fantastic, so, if that guys movies are comparable, i will definitely check them out.
though, since classes have started, my available free time to be allocated to the consumption of cinematography is unfortunately limited.
@entendezmavoix -
I suppose school gets in the way. Of course I didn't have cable in college so I would watch movies instead.
But I just revealed my nerdy, quirky behavior. I will watch movies based on the director. If I like a director's work then I will go for other movies.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
Yeah, I never watch the tele. I think it's mindless crap and a waste of time. I much prefer the internet. tehehe
Nerds are awesome, never hesitate to hide your nerdy, quirky behavior.
It's not like I would have ANY room to judge you.
And I'm starting to get into directors. I still have a tendency to watch movies based on actors. I'll watch anything if it has Kevin Spacey, Anthony Hopkins, or Edward Norton in it. But I'm learning directors. Not many. Kevin Smith, Stanley Kubrick, Guillermo del Toro...and maybe one or two others that I can't recall. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Kevin Smith...but his movies are entertaining and have a lot of character and, from what I know of him, his work is worth supporting, even if I don't love it.
So, after that little mini rant of mine, who's your favorite director?
@entendezmavoix -
I enjoy Kevin Smith's movies because he does a good job of character development through conversation. I have also enjoyed Kubrick although some of his movies are painful to sit through even though they are classics. I think my favorite is Dr. Strangelove. Richard Linklater has made some enjoyable movies and what makes his work art is that he has made different styles of movies. He directed the remake of Bad New Bears, School of Rock, subUrbia, and also one of my all time favorite movies, Dazed and Confused. He also has made these digitally animated movies. Like they film real life and then they digitally animate it...anyway those are Waking Life, A Scanner Darkly, and Fast Food Nation. It's amazing how he can work in two different styles. I am also going against the norm and say I like M. Night Shamylan's work. I think out of all the directors that I follow that Quentin Tarantino is my absolute favorite. The dialogue in his films is what makes the movies.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
my favorite is definitely Dr. Strangelove, we should watch it sometime! but, i'm also a fan of A Clockwork Orange.
I haven't seen any of the movies you listed for Richard Linklater. oops...but if Dazed and Confused is one of your all time favorite films, I'll have to see it. Especially since that's one of my email addresses...I sort of feel like a failure for having never seen it. (though, in my defense, the email address was created for the song. i knew of the existence of the film, however, and simple neglected to watch it.)
I saw A Scanner Darkly. I really need to watch it again. I got really confused.
I too like M. Night Shamylan. I really liked The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and The Village. I haven't seen any of his other films, but, I've wanted to for a while. It's interesting how he combines thriller/drama and social commentary.
See, now I just want to have an M. Night Shamylan movie marathon. Damn you! I have homework to do!
As far as Quentin Tarantino goes, I love Pulp Fiction and Resevoir Dogs, but I was not a huge fan of Kill Bill, Sin City, or Grindhouse. Just not my kind of movies.
@entendezmavoix -
Ah yes Dazed and Confused the song...very nice! Dazed and Confused, the movie, was basically what launched Matthew McConaghey's career. There are many quotable lines from that movie which have served me well in recent years. The cool thing about that movie is to me it seems like a long music video.
A Scanner Darkly was crazy. I got so scared watching it and I had no reason to be scared.
Unbreakable is my favorite Shamylan movie. I was always disappointed with Sixth Sense but that was because my friends built it up as a horror film and told me that I would "crap my pants" when I watched it. Didn't happen. I really liked Lady in the Water but that is mostly because it started as a bedtime story he told his children. Oh and Signs wasn't bad. I am unsure of The Happening mostly because of Marky Mark.
See the movie in Grindhouse that Tarantino directed was quite possibly his best written film. The dialogue is incredible. I have yet to see Inglorious Basterds....maybe instead of drinking this weekend I will go to the theater but that will probably cost more.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
i think i'll track down that movie and watch it very soon. i love quotable lines.
you got scared watching A Scanner Darkly? really? why?
yeah...Sixth Sense was definitely not a "crap my pants" sort of movie. though when the chick reaches out from under the bed and grabs the boy i definitely jumped. but it is a good movie. unbreakable is probably better though. i think i'm just partial to Sixth Sense because i really appreciate the ending. it's not that i didn't see it coming, it was just very well put together, in my opinion. and i heard mediocre things about Lady in the Water so i never saw it. and i don't know why i haven't seen Signs or The Happening. eh, i'll see them soon-ish.
i guess i'll give Grindhouse another go. i respect your opinion, so, i'll give it a shot. and i've heard Inglorious Basterds is funny, so, i want to see it.
random side note: i'd read your profile before, the about me section. the first time, i just chuckled because i thought you were being witty. a few weeks ago i finally saw The Jerk. then tonight i read that section again and started cracking up because i finally got it. and i thought you should know. my housemate also started laughing when i read it to him because he's the one that showed me the movie.
but, in all honesty, i don't think steve martin is funny. i find his humor mostly annoying for some reason. it's kind of sad, i used to really like him. now, i don't know, it just doesn't do anything for me.
@entendezmavoix -
Unbreakable is Shamylan's favorite. Lady in the Water had none of his usual twists and turns but it was just a fairy tale. I enjoyed it. Oh and there was a point in Signs where I jumped but that was because I was watching the movie in my parents' house late one night while I was on break and I saw shadows. Creeped me out!
I forget what the name of the movie Tarantino directed in the Grindhouse set, it wasn't the zombie movie. The tension he creates with dialogue is beyond compare.
The Jerk is so great. It wasn't until maybe last fall that I actually saw the actual theatrical release. I had the 26th anniversary edition and it includes a how to guide to play the ukulele. And I can't remember which quote it was, maybe the one about growing up...yeah I love that one. I haven't found much of Martin's recent work that funny.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
ooh, i did that same thing except i was watching Secret Window at home, alone, at night. i don't know if you've seen it. it's a decent enough movie and not really scary. but i definitely jumped several times.
and there's very little of Steve Martin's work that is really great. I did enjoy The Jerk, but, it's definitely not a favorite. I'm more partial to Monty Python (or British comedy in general). I've listened to some of Steve Martin's comedy sketches. They were okay. But his recent stuff is TERRIBLE. I think I watched Pink Panther when I was on a long plane ride and had nothing else to do. I should have stared at the back of the seat instead.
@entendezmavoix -
Secret Window...that the one with Johnny Depp as an author and some creepy guy says that he stole his story?
Hmm Steve Martin...I liked Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Roxanne but the Pink Panther movies...so horrible, almost as bad as all the Austin Powers movies.
OMG...a girl who enjoys Monty Python? Few and far between. When I was teaching grade school, we had a play where every classroom put on a skit. My classroom did the Humor Lecture which is on the Hollywood Bowl live concert.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
yep yep. Secret Window has Johnny Depp and John Turturro and a story was indeed stolen. The creepy guy is Turturro and he's another one of those actors I preferentially watch. He's made some mediocre films but he always acts very well and is exceptionally entertaining.
I've seen neither Dirty Rotten Scoundrels nor Roxanne. I'll give Mr. Martin a second chance and watch those.
I also heard that the original Pink Panther was quite good. Same with the original Producers. I realize those are completely unrelated except for the fact that I've been told that the remakes were disgusting and pathetic and the originals were classics.
Austin Powers...eww...no thank you. I hate Austin Powers so very much.
Yes, a girl who enjoys Monty Python. We do exist. I haven't seen Life of Brian, but, I own The Holy Grail and Meaning of Life. I'm learning to whistle so that I can walk around campus whistling Every Sperm is Sacred (among others. That's just one of my favorites because, well, it's hilarious).
Oh, I would love to see a live performance of the Humor Lecture. I'm quite partial to the How to Not be Seen. I really need to see more of The Flying Circus.
@entendezmavoix -
I love the original Pink Panther movies. Peter Sellers is great. In fact if you remember he has the three roles in Dr. Strangelove...the Dr., the President, and the British officer. Those Pink Panther movies, they aren't as slapstick as the Steve Martin ones...at least they aren't forced. As for The Producers...I can go either way on that one. It is one of the few Will Ferrell movies that I have enjoyed.
Life of Brian is quite excellent especially if you are looking for a song to whistle. Maybe look up "always look on the bright side of life". That is a fun one to whistle.
I made my students do that Humor Lecture mostly because some friends and I did that for a talent show at college. When I got hit with a pie at the end, the guy hit me so hard that whipped cream went everywhere and got on a huge curtain and it is still stained.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
lol, I always remember that the same guy plays the Dr., the President, and the British officer, I just always forget his name. You'd think I'd remember Peter Sellers since, as you say, he's great. But names are not my forte.
And I didn't like the new PP because of the slapstick aspect. I prefer movies that are clever or witty. Monty Python tells some silly jokes, but, for some of their humor you have to be paying attention or you have to have some appreciation for the social commentary they are making. It's still funny if you miss it, but, I like multi-layered films. The kind that can be watched in many different states of mind and a whole different film can be seen.
haha, I know "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life." I'd feel like a MP failure if I didn't know such a famous song.
And I think you're pretty much awesome for letting your students hit you with a pie. That stain is like a trophy.
@entendezmavoix -
I hate those in your face comedies which is probably why I dislike Will Ferrell.
I love dark comedies. There is this Dutch film that I once saw and eventually bought. It was called Festen or in the English Celebration. It was about how this family got together to celebrate the patriarch's birthday. Then it turns out one of the kids reveals a secret about the father. I never quite got how it was funny but just the idea of having the family together and then revealing a deep dark secret is funny. Oh and there is another director I enjoy named Todd Solondz. He has made somewhat of a trilogy of dark comedies...Welcome to the Dollhouse, Storytelling, and Palindromes. Somehow those are all comedies but they are all very disturbing. If you are interested you should definitely read about them before watching. All I will say is that Welcome to the Dollhouse was enjoyable for me and a lot of my classmates in college. Solondz has also directed the creepiest movie that I have ever seen and that is called Happiness. It's amazing how many big name actors are in that movie even though it is so dark and disturbing.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
I think one of my favorite dark comedies is Fargo. But I also don't know that I have seen too many dark comedies.
Your list intrigues me though. You've quite cautiously recommended several films. I have a pretty high tolerance for many things, ranging from pain to disturbing cinema. I think I should probably be compiling some sort of list because you've told me of many a film I should at to my cinema repertoire.
And I dislike Will Ferrell because I don't think he's funny. At all. Oh, one exception. I loved Stranger Than Fiction. But Ferrell was not playing his usual role in that movie and I thought he did a fantastic job.
@entendezmavoix -
I love Fargo and there are many people in Minnesota that talk like or claim they don't but they do.
I should maybe compile a list of movies that I think people should see or maybe a list of my disturbing cinema...like Happiness or Old Boy or the Hostel movies or something truly horrifying...anything with Tom Cruise.
There was a movie that I really enjoyed and as I was watching I sat there and said "oh my lord, that's Will Ferrell and I totally like this movie." Maybe it was Stranger than Fiction or Melinda and Melinda. I think he would be good in some sort of drama/thriller where he would play the regular joe who is secretly a serial killer...oh I have Dexter on the mind.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
tom cruise...eww, don't even joke about that.
have you seen battle royal or suicide circle? i've heard that those are rather disturbing and i've wanted to watch those for a while as well.
i never saw hostel. i think that one came out just after i finished with my horror movie binge. i liked saw. then every subsequent saw film was miserable. okay, i only watched saw II. i stopped there.
as for melinda and melinda, i've never heard of it. but looking it up, i saw that it was written and directed by woody allen and i then realized that i've never seen a movie that woody allen directed. which is really sad because i've seen quotes from woody allen a lot and i've always thought he was someone i should know something about and i've never looked into it.
but, stranger than fiction is the one where harold crick wakes up one morning and someone is narrating his life. he's a bit thrown off by it but isn't too worried about it until the narrator says that he is going to be killed soon. it's a fantastic movie. if you aren't sure if you've seen it, watch it again.
okay...dexter on the mind...you've lost me.
@entendezmavoix -
Battle Royal...I haven't seen it but heard it is like Lord of the Flies on crystal meth. I can never find it around here and when I do find it, the dvd is way out of my price range. I was in Madison and saw it for $40. I am unsure of putting down that much money for a movie I've only heard reviews for. But I may splurge and look for it on Amazon.
Oh another one...Ichii the Killer...insane, the director's name is Takashi Miike. He has produced some of the goriest movies known to man. There was a push to remake Japanese horror films and some wanted to remake his movies for America but they were too gory.
For some reason I enjoy the Saw movies. Speaking of which, it's almost October which means Halloween and a new Saw movie.
I have enjoyed Woody Allen. His movie Take the Money and run is like the first mockumentary and I loved it. Then his movie Sweet and Low Down stars Sean Penn as a jazz musician. That is somewhat of a mockumentary as well. The style of the first movie is probably where Christopher Guest got his ideas for Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show etc.
Dexter is a TV show on Showtime. The lead character is named Dexter and he plays a serial killer but the people he kills are criminals who have escaped justice. It's an excellent series.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
"Lord of the Flies on crystal meth" - awesome. now i have to see it! i saw it for cheap once in the used section of a movie store. but my housemate has it on his computer, so, i can watch it whenever. and even if he didn't have it, i'd probably just download it. i know, i'm a bad person. i just can't afford to support my habit.
eh, gore's not really my thing. i prefer movies that make you think to movies that make you want to vomit. there are certainly times when i'm feeling up for some good old fashioned blood and guts flying everywhere, but, most of the time i'll opt out if a better option is available.
that being said, i love Hannibal and Silence of the Lambs. not especially gory movies, but, there's some. and Watchmen is fantastic, though i usually don't watch the scene when the guy gets his arms cut off. or in Pan's Labyrinth when the man smashes in the other man's face - i usually avert my eyes there.
yes, it is almost October. please tell me you have something more exciting to look forward to than a new Saw movie.
haha, Spinal Tap...me and my friends always joke about that film. everything is turned up to 11 in our house.
ooh, yeah, there's no way i would have heard of Dexter, then. it sounds interesting, but, we don't even have a tele in my house, not to mention any cabling that would enable the viewing of Showtime. unless i find it online, i'm afraid i will just have to take your word that it is a great series. the tele is just really low priority for me, lol.
@entendezmavoix -
You most definetly can find Dexter online. I mean I normally on Mondays have been posting episodes of one of my all-time favorite TV shows and that was from about 10 years ago. Anyway here is a site where they have all the episodes listed, you just have to choose which video you want to watch. I usually go with the ones from megavideos.
I understand what you mean about not wanting to see gore. I like that gross-out factor every once in a while but not all the time. Usually I detest action movies. They are so cheesy. That being said, I loved Watchmen. A lot of fans of the novel were let down but not me.
Well I was just making a generalization about October and Saw although I did notice a trailer for the next installment which comes out around Halloween.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
dude, check this out! link
i've noticed that you post videos. i'll have to take your word that this typically occurs on mondays, lol. i don't pay that much attention to what day of the week it is. me and time don't like to keep track of each other. anyway, i bookmarked that site. i'll check it out the next time i need a break from quantum mechanics.
but, i haven't watched your videos (wow that was a tangent i got lost on) because my computer won't load them. i don't have the right software or something. i'm running ubuntu (linux) and so i've been having trouble getting all the software i need to have complete accessibility to stuffs online. on the plus side there are a lot of adds that i can't see. but, i also can't see your videos nor can i listen to any of the songs you post. it's kind of sad, actually. but i don't have mastery of the ubuntu OS, so, i don't know how to get everything working. and now that classes have started my housemate is too busy to justify me bothering him with non-emergency computer problems.
have you seen Shoot 'Em Up? it's freaking HILARIOUS! as long as you go into it knowing that it's mocking action films. if you go in thinking it's a legitimate movie then it is terrible. i watched it with one girl who's so happy she laughs at everything and a guy who loves action movies and was completely offended by everything. so, i guess i don't know how much of the film was good as my experience of watching it was great.
i bought the graphic novel after seeing the movie. however, i have not gotten around to reading. that's probably a job for winter break. though i also want to read Brave New World. i'll have to decide which one i'll read first.
lol, yeah, sure. generalization...i believe you.
@entendezmavoix -
Thank you so much for that link. I bookmarked it because I could stare at it all night.
Yeah I don't really know the ins and outs of computers and I am sorry that the videos I post you can't enjoy nor the music. I have computer problems as well and I feel stupid asking. Like I see no ads and every webpage I visit has a white background and some things on the site won't show up. I have tried the background options but that isn't it. I feel like an idiot but it works. So if people ask me my opinion on their layout on myspace or Xanga I fake my way through it.
I have heard about Shoot Em Up but people mocked it but they must not of understood that it was being sarcastic.
I'd probably read Brave New World first although I read Watchmen in two nights.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
you are quite welcome, sir. it's currently the wallpaper on my computer. it's a bit fuzzy, but, still awesome.
haha, it sounds like it's something either in your anti-virus software or in your browser. if you're using Norton, well, you're pretty much SOL. because Norton is worse than a virus. it puts itself into other programs and so if you ever try to remove Norton, it takes down half of your software with it. i had it on one of my old laptops and when i removed it, it killed microsoft office. AVG is good, so is Avast. as for your browser, if you're using MSIE, well, use anything else. but most people use firefox. if you're using firefox, check your add-ons. you might have an ad blocker or something.
or if you enjoy your lite internet browsing, then no worries.
people mocked the film that was mocking films. i like the irony of that. i'd still recommend you watch it, it's quite fantastic. clive owen (main guy) kills a bunch of people with a carrot stick. it really is hilarious.
i'll probably read them both. i've still got to finish alice in wonderland though.
@entendezmavoix -
I think because I got this computer from a guy in college who needed to pay off debts that it had some stuff missing. I am probably a year or so away from looking for a new one. I do enjoy the lite feature but sometimes it can be a hassle because not all the buttons will show up. I sort of have to move my cursor around until I see the address pop up on the bottom of the page.
See I really don't think people got that Shoot Em Up was mocking action movies. They took it to be serious.
Alice in Wonderland? Is that prep work for the upcoming movie?
@godfatherofgreenbay -
it's sort of prep for the upcoming movie. but i've wanted to read it for years and just never got around to it. i went through a phase in high school where i only read books i could brag about having read. alice in wonderland didn't make the cut. but i saw this quote from it at one point:
"One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. 'Which road do I take?' she asked. 'Where do you want to go?' was his response. 'I don't know,' Alice answered. 'Then,' said the cat, 'it doesn't matter.'"
i found the quote before i heard about the film. i decided that i needed to read the book finally because of how much i liked the quote. the fact that i heard about the upcoming film shortly after purchasing the book was a super bonus.
however, i'm not excited about anne hathaway being in the film. to be honest, i think she ruins every movie she's in. i hate her acting. she's terrible. granted, i also believe she's only been in bad movies, but, still. she made the bad movie worse.
i just hope that her part in Alice is small.
@entendezmavoix -
I am actually very interested in that movie and that quote blows my mind. It makes so much sense.
There was always debate as to what Alice in Wonderland meant. Some have said that it is a scathing commentary on life while the author has said that it was merely a bedtime story. To me it has to be more than a bedtime story but I am sure he cleaned it up a bit before he wrote it.
I can honestly say that I have only seen two Anne Hathaway movies: Havoc and Brokeback Mountain. Havoc, well if you have seen it then you know why a guy would enjoy her role.
She is the White Queen which I don't know if that will be a small part. It has been such a long time since I read the book and I am sure they aren't basing this movie on the Disney version
@godfatherofgreenbay -
i've heard a lot of rumors. i was told that the White Queen wasn't even in Alice in Wonderland, she's there in Through the Looking Glass. so the film might be some sort of a combination of the two. i've also been told that it's not Alice in Wonderland at all, but more of the Alice, a book written by a contemporary author about Alice's return to Wonderland as an adult. the guy i was talking to said that Alice in Wonderland would be hard to do because you aren't allowed to show children doing drugs and other illicit activities in American cinema. but all the information i have on the movie comes from hearsay.
i've not heard of Havoc and i never watched Brokeback Mountain. honestly, not too terribly interested in either.
as far as what the book means, i'm not sure. i've only read as far as alice entering wonderland. where i stopped, she had just met the hooka smoking caterpillar. it was quite entertaining to read the part about alice falling down the rabbit hole. she has an entire conversation with herself all the way down, rendering commentary as though she were two people. and she periodically reprimands herself for speaking as though she were multiple entities. then she returns to her discussion. she's quite schizophrenic, in my opinion.
and that quote is definitely one of my favorites of all time. my creativity is such that my next blog was probably going to be a compilation of my favorite quotes. that one was certainly going to be on the list.
@entendezmavoix -
I have read that the film is going to be a combination of the two books because Through the Looking Glass wasn't that long but then I have also read that it is somewhat like the novel you talk about although she doesn't return as an adult but at age 19. I just visited imdb and the word is that it is the latter so now I am somewhat disappointed.
Havoc is about these suburban goody-two shoes girls that decide to "go bad" by hooking up with gang members. It is sort of disturbing. Brokeback Mountain wasn't as bad as what people made it. I am sure a lot of the hype against the movie was homophobia.
I look forward to that future post.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
i bet it will be a good film, though. at least i hope so. i enjoy Tim Burton's work, so, i suspect this latest film will be of the same calliber as his previous work, even if it's not the alice in wonderland people were expecting/hoping for.
okay, you make Havoc sound like it might be a legitimate movie now. before you made it sound like it was sub-par cinema with anne hathaway being less than clothed. imdb wasn't too fond of it, though. 5.4 stars and the first user comment "two hours i can never get back." hmm...if it falls into my lap, i'll watch it. but i'm not going out of my way to acquire it.
as far as brokeback mountain goes, i never saw it because i just didn't have any interest in watching a movie about cowboys, no matter how gorgeous the two leading actors were. frankly, the only thing i've heard about the movie is the homosexuality. and if the only motivation i have to see a movie is people getting their undies in a bundle over some male on male, well, i have better ways to waste my time. if someone comes along and tells me that it is a good movie and worth watching, then i'd see it. otherwise, i'm throwing it in with havoc: i'll watch it if it falls into my lap but i'm not going to acquire it.
the post is a work in progress. have to make sure to find an adequate number of quotes. lol
@entendezmavoix -
It should be good. What is your favorite Tim Burton movie?
Yeah, I wouldn't go out of your way to buy Havoc but it is an interesting tale and something I saw when I lived in the suburbs.
I think the only reason I saw Brokeback was because of all the praise it got. I am a sucker for great cinematography in movies and that was quite excellent. It just was awkward that it had to be the backdrop of a story of two guys being in love.
Well either way, I am anxious for your posts. Too bad you have this school stuff because you are an excellent writer.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
hmm...favorite tim burton movie? definitely Big Fish. that's one of the best movies i've ever seen. and it's not like many of burton's other films. it's unique to him and to cinema in general. it was a lot of fun, entertaining, just all around brilliant. in fact i want to watch it now. i think i might this weekend. have you seen it?
i asked one of my friends about brokeback mountain. she said that she had watched it because of the homophobia surrounding it. she commented that it wasn't until she had seen it a second time a year or so later that she really appreciated it. her most notable comment was that it was just a love story. which leads me to believe that it is, again, worth seeing if i happen upon it. the homosexuality aspect is not that exciting for me, i'm pretty cool with people loving whoever they choose. so the fact that this film got so much hype just because of that, well, it baffles me a little bit. but that's whatever.
haha, thank you kind sir. and, i know, this whole school thing really gets in the way of my distractions. it's probably for the best that i know to prioritize it, though.
@entendezmavoix -
You are creeping me out because you can read my mind. Big Fish is an awesome movie. I am partially going through that with my dad. Not finding out all his lies were true but just listening to him talk about his life as his health fails.
You know I am glad I had no clue what Xanga was when I was in college. There was also no myspace or facebook to distract me either.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
it's a good thing you can appreciate your fathers stories. i know that a lot of people don't have that opportunity. by the time they realize they want to hear those things, it's too late. it's like that with me and my great grandfather. he passed away years ago. i wish i could have heard his stories.
haha, i'm not reading your mind! i'm from the future, i have your biography. you wrote it in xanga posts, what's up with that? silly man...
@entendezmavoix -
Yeah I feel lucky in that I get to hear him speak about days gone by. I never knew one of my grandfathers. He died when I was 2 or 3. I knew one great grandmother. She passed away when I was about 6 or 7. The grandfather I speak so highly of passed away when I was 9 or 10. One grandmother died when I was 17 and the other passed when I was about 22. My family is old I guess. I mean my mom was the youngest of 8 kids and her mother was the youngest of 22 and her father fought in the Civil War.
Hmmm...I wrote my biography? Did I mention a place called Chubby's?
@godfatherofgreenbay -
Your family is old and plentiful. It's been generations since anyone in my family had more than 3 kids (unless you count more distant relatives. But they're all located in the midwest or other countries). And I think my family can claim some participation in WWII and Vietnam. But, the Civil War? Whoa...your great grandfather? Did I figure that right? If so, jeez...my great grandfather wasn't even born until the 20th century. 1905 or something like that.
No, damn discount biography store. I was wondering why my copy was so cheap. lol
@entendezmavoix -
I think I am the first generation in either side of my family that is an only child.
My grandmother would have been 100 this spring. I forget how old he was when she was born but he was very old to have a child in that day. So people often won't believe me that I am that close to someone who fought in the Civil War.
Well nice try, Chubby's was a place of my employment. I figure that my biography would make its way to the shelves of a Dollar Tree where everything is only $1.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
Your grandmother would have been 100...that kind of blows my mind, I've gotta be honest. My GREAT grandmother would have been 100 a couple years ago.
You worked at a place called "Chubby's"? That's a little bit ridiculous. What kind of work was it? It sounds like a greasy restaurant.
@entendezmavoix -
Yeah that is how spread out my family is.
Oh I was a bouncer at this place called Chubby's and it was most definitely not a restaurant.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
You were a bouncer? Awesome! (yes?) What was that like?
@entendezmavoix -
Well it had its moments where I thought it was the best job in the world but then there were times when I hated it but isn't that true about most jobs. I should say this, it was a gentlemen's club. Yeah...don't think less of me. I would share stories but I don't know.
@godfatherofgreenbay -
You have an eclectic collection of experiences, I'll give you that. I'm just trying to picture a man who teaches religious classes and is/was also a bouncer at a gentlemen's club. That man is definitely someone who should tell some stories, I'm sure of that much!
@entendezmavoix -
And that is why I am trying to write my life story. I probably only have two stories stick out in my mind about working at the club.
