  • Monday Morning Mash-Up Madness

I am back to posting this one when I normally post it, lat Sunday/early Monday.  I crashed this evening and luckily I recorded all the shows I normally watch.  I am probably heading right to bed after this.

This mash-up takes Blondie's "Rapture" and mashes it with "Riders on the Storm" by The Doors.  I love this one.  It's audio porn for me but that is most likely due to my love of The Doors.  It's too bad I never got to see the original line-up.  I did get to see The Doors of the 21st Century with Ray Manzerek and Robbie Krieger from the original band.  They added a drummer and lead singer, obviously.  Ian Astbury filled in for Jim and did a spectacular job.  The show I went to in Minneapolis was breath-taking because I thought AStbury was channeling the spirit of Jim Morrison.  Anyway I love how this mash-up works.  It makes me wonder what The Doors would have sounded like if they continued on and Jim hadn't joined the 27 Forever Club.

Here is one that I didn't think would work when I first saw the combination.  It takes "Dirt Off Your Shoulders" by Jay-Z(can't tell if that is the actual song name but it sounds right) and mashes it with The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony".  I love "Bittersweet Symphony".  It made me feel bad when I find out that The Verve has this long and excellent career in the UK and then this is their only hit in the US.  Still it's an excellent song.

Just in time for Halloween...Michael Jackson's "Bad" mashed up with Ray Parker Jr.'s "Ghostbusters".  The funny thing is after the first time I heard this, I forgot the actual tune for "Bad" and can only here this song.

    Fiends forever!

I hope everyone had a good time this weekend.  We love you, Chevy!

  • My bff is really into the doors. they have this awesome necklace at the museum where I work that is a medallion where one side has cover art from I forgot which album and the other says the doors. with some sort of little dangly thing. the artist that designed it has a whole bunch from different artists and bands...I wanted to buy it for her and the frank sinatra one for myself, but they cost $150.  for that I could just make my own and call it a day.

I enjoy your mash ups. :)

  • That's quite the fearsome fivesome up there

  • My fav is The Doors/Blondie mash-up...but the others are purty darn good too =)

  • Seriously, the music you put on here influences how my week kicks off. And although I Know that it's going to be a rough week with two huge projects, an exam tomorrow and midterms next week, this music brighten my spirits. I was humming the Ghostbusters theme as I walked into MPC this morning. :)
I haven't tried any of those fancy alcoholic beverages you have going on up there, but maybe I will get there one day. I get teased a lot since I'm so Irish but I don't drink (very often).

  • @TheSecretLifeOfPandas -

Yeah I like them but within reason. I think that was the most I ever paid for a concert...$75 and that was a balcony seat, first row. I heard front row seats were $300 for that show.

Thank you, I am glad you enjoy these.

  • @longtimelurker -

    I can't believe I have had 4 of those.

  • @Peridot21 -

That Doors and blondie one is quite excellent. I sort of think that is how The Doors would have sounded had they made it to the disco craze.

  • yeah....$150 for a stupid necklace I could probably find at claire's is not within reason at all. But the MCA is notoriously expensive.

And I'm not much of a concert goer, but I once paid 30 bucks for front row center the opening night of a play. that was cool. :)

  • @twistedmistletoe -

That makes me happy that I can provide you these for the start of your week. Good luck with your projects.

Yeah those wines up there, they aren't that fancy. I bet those brands would probably be the cheapest booze you would find in the liquor store unless you happen to find a bottle of Santa's Private Reserve, a horrible pink wine that ran 50cents for the size of one of those bottles and the gallon bottle was $1.25. I often joke I have three strikes against me when it comes to drinking because I have German, Irish, and Native American blood in me.

  • @TheSecretLifeOfPandas -

$150, well that would buy like 75 bottles of Night Train.

I try to get to concerts. There is a place in Madison that I like to go and I usually have to get there early so taht I can be first in so I can get a seat in the balcony.

  • Lol what is night train? and why is it so cheap?

  • @TheSecretLifeOfPandas -

Cheap wine...I don't know why it is so cheap, maybe because it is so nasty but it does the job.

  • lol. damn. well if you are only looking to get drunk...which let's face it I usually am...it sounds like a win to me.

  • Hey, Godfather!! It's me!! Wow!! These are so cool! I liked the last one best!!

Yes, "Fiends Forever!" Some people think I'm a "fiend"....

    HUGS to you and Cocky!!!

  • @TheSecretLifeOfPandas -

I am not much of a wine person because something with it always gives me a headache in the morning no matter how little I drink. I can drink gallons of beer without any problems but one glass of wine will make my life miserable in the morning.

  • @carolinaatnight -

There are so many Michael Jackson mash-ups out there and that last one probably is one of the best but that is just me.

Hmmm I wonder what sort of fiend you could be.

Cocky and I appreciate the hugs and we reciprocate.

  • Those were really good!

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

While I'm name brand familiar with three of the five, guess which one I wish I hadn't actually experienced

  • Oh I looooooove wine. It never makes me sick. Thank God. The only things that make me sick are...like...Tequila...well. I love him, but he is cruel to me.

  • @joiwinds -

I really enjoy the mash-ups because it's a musical process that isn't too difficult yet sounds difficult.

  • @longtimelurker -

It has to be Thunderbird. Of all those Thunderbird has to be the worst. I have never had Cisco.

  • @TheSecretLifeOfPandas -

One of my most memorable drinking experiences involved a bottle of Jose Cuervo. It was 20 years old and the guy who owned it said he was afraid to drink it. I grabbed it from his hand and sipped it. Oh it was so smooth so I chugged half the bottle. I went from sober to drunk in 10 seconds. After that there was a few things that I am not proud of but it didn't make me throw up but now whenever I smell tequila I tear up because it burns my eyes.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

I didn't word that quite right. The only one I've had prior experience with was MD20/20 - and that's been MANY years ago

  • LOL!!!! I've never done anything stu...oh no wait...yes, lol I've done A LOT of stupid things while drunk on tequila.

Really embarrassing ones too. Jeez. but I don't get sick from it per se...I get sick the next day when I've had TOO much and I've mixed my alcohol.

  • @longtimelurker -

While in college we had our bum wine night. We would go to the liquor store and each of us would buy 3 or 4 bottles and put them in brown paper bags. Then we would randomly pick out of the fridge. Oh those were some wicked nights. MD and Boone's Farm should be taken off the market.

  • @TheSecretLifeOfPandas -

Oh and my other favorite story was the night I had 20 too many beers and ended up driving one of those special shopping carts around a 24hr grocery store. I did so many stupid things....instituting a bb gun club in the basement of the frat house, creating a fireworks club in the basement of the frat house, spilling 151 on the floor and then lighting a firecracker on it, filling up a huge mug with water and booze and then lighting a bottle rocket and it shoots into the mug and the explosion lifts it 3 feet off the ground, "borrowing" a shopping cart from Target and then riding down a hill, watching Legend of Sleepy Hollow...oh so many more.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - oh damn you HAD to be drunk to watch legen of sleepy hollow.

I remember the time I was coming home from trafalgar square and I hailed a taxi. I was like I live at so and so spot. so the guy takes me there and it's not my dorm building. it's an embassy.

He's like this is it love, and I'm really drunk and like, but...I don't live there (cue whiney girl voice). he's like that's the address you gave me.  and I'm like BUT I DON'T LIVE THERE. so he's freaking out because no one likes a crying drunk girl and so I decide to give him the address to another building that's like a block away. I could just walk back from there. so he does a u-turn and and we're driving down a street and I see my dorm. I'm like STOP!!! that's where I live! he's like oh...are you sure? I'm like positive. besides if he had kept driving I wouldn't have had enough cash to pay the fare. turns out I lived on queens gate TERRACE and not queen's gate.

I was drunk and forgot where I lived.

    ha.

  • @TheSecretLifeOfPandas -

Well I included Sleepy Hollow under drunk but it was something else instead of liquor.

Great story! Yeah I feel uneasy when I am around crying drunk girls because usually the crying leads to violence in a mere instance. Not saying that for you but from my personal experiences.

The suburb where I lived in Minneapolis had half the town just spring up over the past 10 years and basically all the new houses looked alike. I often wondered how people were able to differ between their house and their neighbors'. Thankfully I didn't live in the new part of town. I wonder how many people came home drunk and wandered into the wrong house.

  • ahhaha. :) high were we?

and yeah...crying drunk girls...not cool. I'm more of a happy drunk. I LOOOOOVE everyone. :) and I'm never violent when drunk just extremely affectionate. :) why ruin a good buzz with violence?

lol. oh my gosh I'm sure. or got really pissed cuz their front door key wasn't working.

  • @TheSecretLifeOfPandas -

Yeah it wqs the last time I was naughty with that particular substance.

I usually am happy but lately something has changed in that so I haven't had much to drink.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - oh noes...have you become sad drunk?

  • @TheSecretLifeOfPandas -

Sort of I guess. Just getting older and losing friends because they are having families. I think I already said that stuff though.

  • aw. yeah. no I understand. I'm sorry.

don't be sad drunk guy. :(

  • Okay...I just had an orgasm listening to The Doors/Blondie mashup!

Oh my god...only two of my favorite bands of all time....two of the very reasons I love music today!

Mmmmm...my first radio....jumping on the bed in pigtails....rocking out to Blondie and then The Doors when I switched the dial to the classic rock station!

    Good times...good times....great memories!

  • @ExposedWrists -

My reaction when I first heard that mash was pretty much the same. It works so well. Sometimes though it makes me feel OK with the fact that The Doors never made it to the disco phase. I'm not happy about how they never made it but that they never did. I guess after listening to this a few times it made me mentally picture Jim, John, Robbie, and Ray doing a lounge act in Vegas in the late 70s.
