  • Monday Morning Mash-Up Madness

So have you heard of this DJ Hero video game?  It's a game along the same lines as Guitar Hero and Band Hero however the instrument you use is a DJ's turntable as well as a crossfader, stream buttons, and effects dials.  I think this game will blow Guitar Hero out of the water.  The one cool aspect is that some songs from Guitar Hero are playable on this game and they can be broken apart i.e. you can use just the vocals or just the music.  It is possible to make your own mash-ups with this game. Just think of what I will be able to share with you in the future.  Oh and they have a microphone option so that you could make your own raps.  God...I still remember laying my old Asteroid game on Atari.

This is "Womanizer" by Britney Spears mixed with "Sex On Fire" by Kings of Leon.  Wow...just wow...I have loved Kings of Leon since Skinny Wolf told me about them because of their constant rotation on the Target in-store music station.  They just keep getting better as do Ms. Spears.

This song combines "This is Why I'm Hot" by MIMS and mashes it with "Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Def Leppard.  When that song by MIMS came out I absolutely detested it.  If I remember correctly it was featured in a Madden Football game.  I immediately disabled that song because I just could not stand it.  My hatred intensified whenever a white kid with a popped collar started rapping that at the bar.  If only MIMS had made this song then my hatred would have been love because this song is AWESOME!  I still remember one of my roommates in college went to a Def Leppard concert.  He took a bag of sugar into the concert and had a sign that said "Will Pour On You"  and he also tucked one of his arms inside his shirt.

Here's another Britney mash-up.  It takes her "Slave 4 U" and mashes it with the single most annoying song in the universe, "Holla Back Girl" by Gwen Stefani.  OK it's not a bad mash-up and I have pictures of Britney from that video which could be her hottest to date.  Oh and I can't remember for the life of me which Britney video that she wore the tight red leather PVC outfit....I need closure.

20 years ago today.  I still remember that night.  My family was glued to the TV watching with tears in their eyes.

  • I had not heard of that yet! It sounds fun! Yes, things have come a long way from Asteroids on Atari. We thought Atari games were SO cool back then. I like the first mash-up here the best of the 3. But they were all fun to listen to! And I remember that night, too! I cried!

    HUGS! Happy Monday!!!

  • now if only we could tear down some of our social walls...

  • OOh, my brother JUST got DJ Hero for his birthday the other day, and he started playing it today... for HOURS! Apparently, it's really addicting. Anyway, great mash-up. I really like the first one with Britney and Kings of Leon.

  • I luv that Womanizer & Sex On Fire.

  • 20yrs!  Feel like just yesterday.

  • man, is the voice of the lead singer for Kings of Leon totally awesome or what?  i just love it... and that mash-up is great (even though erm Britney's been on my last nerve lately for some reason, idk... )

and great pics... it's been 20 years already?!... wow time sure does fly... that doesn't mean we're gettin' old, does it? ;)

oh and here's a trivia question for you... you ready? lol... what does MIMS stand for?  ok, go... ;D

  • One of my favorite novels (Nox) is about the last night of the Berlin wall, mixed up with sadomasoquism and a memorieless main character.

  • I visited this place a few years ago when i went to Germany. I also remember watching a little on tv (not much because i was a kid but i understood what was going on).

  • I was a youthful history nerd even back then and was quite amazed to see the collapse of the wall and the eastern block. Amazing how it all imploded so quickly. Decades of huge militaries facing off ready to do battle, proxy wars, and arms stock piling and then of a sudden poof, game over, no nuclear holocaust. In retrospect, the cold war era seemed like a simpler time than today.

  • I was barely 2 years old when the Berlin Wall came tumbling down. Good post. BTW, AibelleFairy (sp?) and another Xangan just met in person. We should do the same, just not in a romantic sense.

  • This should be a day we continue to tear down walls.

  • She was wearing the red suit in Toxic. When she poured the poison in his mouth. I think.

  • NO! The red one was in "Oops I Did It Again". But the jumpsuit in Toxic was damn sexy.

  • @carolinaatnight -

That was one of those events in my life that I will remember where I was. It's interesting how I don't think my generation has had many of those moments other than the Berlin Wall, 9/11, the space shuttle explosion.

I remember being quite young and my parents had a Porky's game that made no sense and then one of my cousins gave me all his Atari stuff when he upgraded to Nintendo. One of those games was called Custer's Revenge. The plot of the game was to take your character, a US Calvaryman, and have sex with a tied up native American woman.

  • @Aloysius_son -

Yeah that would be nice but I think some of those walls will be up until the end of the world.

  • @mZdejavuZ -

See I would be addicted to making mash-ups if that is true and available to do in that game. I remember a friend who got Guitar Hero and he loved it so much that within a few days he took a vacation from work so he could play it.

  • @RestlessButterfly -

I am glad you enjoyed that song. Sometimes it feels like an eternity since that wall fell because it was when I was a little kid and then it seems like it has just been so fast.

  • @Peridot21 -

Yeah I love Kings of Leon's vocals. I can't describe the voice. It is so soothing and sometimes feels grandfatherly. I guess the singer inherited that voice from his father or maybe I am wrong about this but I think their dad was a Baptist pastor.

20 years...man, I was a punk in grade school and now I am a punk who teaches in grade school occasionally.

MIMS...I think I have an idea what it stands for...Membrane Introduction Mass Spectrometry? Monthly Index of Medical Specialties? Moscow International Motor Show? Manchester Institute for Mathematical Sciences?

  • @mariko_grinder -

I am going to have to look for that book.

  • @NightlyDreams -

That would be great to see where that was. I just knew so much about it at a young age because of what my parents and grandparents said and how they claimed it split our family.

  • @UR_MUSE -

yeah now that you mention it the Cold War seems so little compared to TWAT(the war against terror).

  • @morbidcoronerchick -

I was 9 going on 10 which will tell you how old I will be.

I saw that and I have been thinking of trying to get a Xanga meet for Wisconsin and Minnesota and Illinois people because the Midwest one was in Kansas.

  • @Shy___Away -

Well I think most all of Britney's videos are sexy. I have yet to see the one for 3. I have a feeling it will be good just based on the subject matter of the song.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

you should definitely go visit. it's a beautiful city. especially some of the places i went.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - yeah, that's a good way to describe his voice... he just makes you "feel his pain" or whatever ya wanna call it, idk... and good guesses on the MIMS thing! lol... who knows, maybe you're right but here's what i was told it means: Music Is My Savior ...mhmmm heard him say it in a radio interview a while ago... so there you have it. ;)

  • @NightlyDreams -

Yeah I hear Berlin is quite teh city. A few of my friends went and they said it changed their lives.

  • @Peridot21 -

Yes, that is the definition of MIMS that I heard plus I think that is his actual last name.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

well i wouldn't say it will change your life but it is a city like no other.
