  • Here but Not Here

Xanga...you without me is like Harold Melvin without the Blue Notes...you ain't going anywhere.

Christmas season has really sucked.  Last Monday my dad had his surgery to insert a fistula in his arm and a catheter in his chest.  He had to have the catheter put in right away because the doctor deemed that it was necessary to begin kidney dialysis ASAP.  So the very next day I had to haul him to the closest clinic that could get him in for dialysis and that was about 65 miles from my home.  Last Tuesday I was going to take him in my Blazer however my car had other thoughts.  I went to start it but it didn't start.  My diagnostics said it was the starter.  So I took my dad in his car and I roamed the city for Christmas presents.  I get home later in the day and try to start my car but it wouldn't start and my thoughts were still on the starter.  I figured that I could come online and look at a few places online to price one to save a few bucks.  That didn't go as to plan because my computer wouldn't open up windows.  Every time it was get close, the damn thing would reset.  So the next morning I was supposed to take my dad to the dialysis place but I woke up with a horrible fever.  It was 103.  Luckily my aunt took him.  I stayed at home and called a garage because I wasn't going to go out in the cold and mess around with my car.  The guy comes with his wrecker and asks for the keys.  I hand them over and he goes outside and starts it right up.  Damn.  He took it in and he said that the starter was shot as well as my battery.  With those being replaced as well as a tow to the garage, I was out $435.  The computer still didn't work so on Christmas Eve day a guy came and picked it up to work on it.  I still haven't received any word on what was wrong but of course the holidays happened as did a bunch of snow and ice.   Christmas was spent with my parents and aunt.  Saturday and Sunday I spent figuring out how to use my presents without a computer.  Today, while my dad is in dialysis, I am at a public library a few blocks from my old private school and the funny thing is that I have run into a couple of my teachers.  Oh and when I tried to add a pulse on this computer, I was blocked from the pulse feature because it contained "sexual content".

I don't know when I am going to be getting my computer but it will be sometime.  So I just wanted to give you an update on my life in case you cared.  And I wish you all a belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  • Oh matt. Sounds rough hon. I'm sorry.  I hope your new year goes better.

  • That's too bad your Christmas wasn't good =[

Of course I care! Adding a pulse is sexual content? That's messed up. I hope things start going better for you.

  • Aww, that's lots of bad luck! :( I hope you will have a better time soon!

What a computer related present did you get?

  • P.S.: What did your pulse say? lol

  • P.P.S.: Belated Merry Christmas and get well into 2010!

  • Sorry things been going hard. I hope it gets better for you. Happy new year :)

  • Holy smokes - what a week. I hope everything goes better soon, for your Dad, and you too. That $435.00 sounds pretty steep if you ask me. I've put a rebuilt starter in myself for $100.00 and a decent battery, say around the same. I know though, you can't be crawling around under a car in this shit weather.

Hope you get your computer back soon - we miss you around here big guy!
Take care and hope to see you soon!!! All the best in the New Year too.!!!!!!

  • Oh dear!  I'm sorry things went so badly for you.  I sure hope things get better for you.  *HUGS*

  • Sucks to hear things have been going pretty bad, but it sounds like you've been pretty positive about the whole thing.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

  • that's rough sledding, no doubt. maintain an even strain where possible.

  • so sorry to hear that things are goin' kind of icky for you ...but it can only get better from here, right? ...deff glad you "checked in" to let us know the scoop ...and hopefully you'll be back sooner than later cause xanga is just not the same without you ...srsly, it's weird not seeing your 'online' light on hehe ;)

  • Wow, that really sucks man. I hope things get better for you! And I miss you blogging, I've realized I don't like all my other subs half as much as I thought I did.

  • Good to get all that bad-luck stuff out of the way before the new year -- that way 2010 can be a better year!!!

  • boo. it will get better :)

  • Bummer! Sorry things haven't been going so well . . . On the bright side, next year can only get better . . . ??? With all the health issues in your family this year, it's GOT to be better.

  • Yep, we care. I hope the new year is better for you & your family. So sorry things have been so rotten for you this year. I also hope you get your computer back soon!

  • We do care, and I was getting worried. Welcome back. I downloaded the Rage Against the Machine album on your recommendation, and I like it a lot! Thanks for cluing me in.

  • I do care. I miss the atmosphere that you bring to this place. May God bless you and your family.

  • Merry Christmas. Sorry you had a not so great Christmas. Sounds like things can only go up from here though.

  • That's rotten luck Mat :( I hope things get better and that you have a much luckier 2010! I've missed your posts greatly!

  • how awful! it all sounds entirely terrible. hope you're feeling better, at least. there's still new year's eve to look forward to.

  • Sorry to hear things were a little sour for you this festive season. My Christmas basically sucked too.
As for cars, I don't know your make/model/year/reliability but in our climate, I've found that plucking out your battery and bringing it indoors overnight can make all the difference when it comes to the damn thing actually starting in the morning. As for mechanics, they will sell you on way greater repairs than you actually need in many cases. Question: when the wrecker guy started your car "right up" did he first pop the hood and do something?

  • Aw man, I'm sorry to hear that this Christmas season wasn't any better for you... :( ... Hang in there... Things will turn around and look up again soon... Hope you had a good Christmas with your family despite all those things, and may the new year bring you joy, happiness, and fortune.

  • I reckon it can only get better from here:)

  • @TheSecretLifeOfPandas - I as well hope it goes better.  Relying on libraries for computers isn't fun but if I do get a new one I am aiming to see if I can get it so I can pick up my library's free wireless signal.

  • @crazy2love - I guess it can't get much worse so I have no where to go but up.  I think something I posted in my pulses must have been of a sexual nature...me sexual?  that's absurd.

  • @GloomySunday1 - Thanks...like I have said, I have no where to go but up in 2010.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you.

  • @dikdoktor - Well the starter was brand new for a 99 Chevy Blazer and that was $250, the megatron Interstate battery was $100, the tow job was $40 and the labor was $45.  I figure that is better than being outside and catching pneumonia or having a gust of wind blow the blazer off the blocks.

I heard from the computer guy and he said that he thinks he knew what happened.  The bad thing is that since I got Windows XP from my college for free, I can't go back and get the disks but the strange thing is that the computer came with Windows ME which will be different but I like a challenge.  I figure I will save up a few months and get something brand new and have this guy at church build one for me.

Happy New Year to you and yours!

  • @Ampbreia - Thank you!  Have a Happy New Year!

  • @Lithium98 - Yeah, I have to stay positive.  I don't know what complaining would do for me.  Besides I have access to free computer usage at my library across the street from my house.  Complaining about that would be like the woman that carries a ham complaining she doesn't have bread for sandwiches.

  • @complicatedlight - Thanks, I have never seen the point in complaining about things.  Sure I air my frustrations but I can't change the fact that things happened.  Have a Happy New Year!

  • @Peridot21 - Oh thanks...that cheered me up.  I don't think things could get much worse.  Thankfully the public library where my dad has his dialysis is in the same library system as the one in my town that is right across the street from where I live so I have access in the meantime and the computer guy did call me last night and said things may be solved with my computer.  I just have to be patient.  I can't remember the Italian but the old saying goes, "Time and patience turns the mulberry leaf to silk."

    Have a Happy New Year!

  • @Shy___Away - I don't know how things could worse.  I have air in my lungs so I am content.  Thanks for being a loyal reader.

  • @slmret - Thank you!  I have no doubt that things will improve in the new year...happy new year!

  • @BranmacFeabhail - Yes, it will.  I think tomorrow since my Xanga is blocked at the other library I'll check out Avatar.  It's either that or read....Avatar wins out.

  • @jacksoncroons - Most definitely.  My dad was talking with his insurance company about the dialysis and they may be shifting him to a place only 20 minutes from home which is much easier for him.

    Have a happy new year!

  • @joiwinds - Thanks, I am thinking the computer guy told me that Wednesday or Thursday I could be back in the saddle but I'd have a whole new Windows system and my day would be spent installing everything.

  • @MelFamy - Thanks a lot!  How are you doing these days?  I think I enjoy all of RATM's work.  They have 3 other studio albums...Evil Empire...The Battle of Los Angeles...Renegades of Funk.  All are excellent.  I do enjoy Renegades of Funk even though it is all cover songs.  There is something so awesome about hearing them cover "The Ghost of Tom Joad" and Bob Dylan's "Maggie's Farm".

    Have a Happy New Year!

  • @TheGiantSlayer - Thank you and Lord's blessings to you in the new year!

  • @NightlyDreams - Thank you!  I am looking forward to 2010 despite turning a dreaded age.  Have a Happy New Year!

  • @nattata -

Fröhliche Weihnachten!  I received a couple mp3 players.  I wanted to have one for all my mash-ups and then another for just regular songs.  I never realized there were so many "naughty" accesories one could purchase for the computer.

I couldn't even post a pulse so it must have been something I wrote in the past in my pulses that got me blocked.  At least the library across the street from my house(where I am currently) hasn't blocked me.

I think I have no where to go but up in 2010.  Happy New Year to you as well.

  • @twistedmistletoe - Aw...thank you!  I can't wait to get back to blogging and writing.  I hope you are enjoying your break from school and hope you have a happy new year!

  • @royal_diadem - Yes, New Year's Eve...I found out a guy whose brother I know is bartending at a local dive bar.  The last time I went in he charged me $1 for every beer and $2 for every drink with hard liquor.

    Have a Happy New Year!

  • @UR_MUSE - I have a 99 Chevy Blazer and this was the first time in all my years of owning that car that I have had problems starting it in cold weather.  I found out my last battery, which lasted about 3 years, was an off brand.  The guy who put it in for me gave me a deal because some thugs broke into my car and left the doors open and that drained the battery and alternator.

I watched the wrecker guy from my porch and he opened the door and hopped in and started it right up.  He didn't pop my hood because my hood had snow covering it.  I'll have to look at popping the battery.  My parents used to plug their car in at night to guarantee a start-up.  Anyway this new Interstate Mega-tron better do the job.

    Have a happy new year!

  • @mZdejavuZ - It was nice to relax with my family.  I hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and will have a happy New Year!  I have to be honest and admit that I can't wait to start the new year.

  • @iatoa - that is true...have a happy new year!

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - That is a great gift!

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

Thank you! Me neither! Can't wait! :)

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

what dreaded age are you turning? i'll be turning 33 (if my calculations are correct) and it sounds pretty good to me.

  • Im just now getting caught up on my subscriptions! Im so sorry things are rough right now. :(

I will virtually *hug* you as cheesey as that sounds. All the young kids are doing it! Hope things turn around soon!

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - well good, glad to hear it... and i like that saying, in Italian or in English, either way ;) ...and thanks, Happy New Year to you too, godfather :)

  • my poor sweetie, i care. i miss you.  i hope things go better for you and i hope you dad gets to a good place.  sounds like me tho.....if i didnt have bad luck id have no luck.....or you can look at it like my mom says.....with something bad there is something good and with something good there is something bad... love ya miss ya.....HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  • That's a pretty big string of bad luck.  But, at least you got to spend the holiday with your family and your dad is still around.  Dialysis is a horrible thing to endure and your dad will be in my prayers.  Is he a candidate for a transplant?  The recovery is pretty harsh, but a friend of my family has one years ago and said the result was that he felt normal again.  I'm not sure of his age, but he can't be a young man and the elderly often are not cosidered as viable candidates.  I pray that in time he can be cured or at least have to endure less dialysis.  May Luck, Love, and Laughter be ever present in the new year.  <3 Suz

  • I am so sorry to hear of all your troubles that came during the holidays and the end of the year.
I know this is easier said than done, but, try and keep your sense of humor.
I have had a pretty sucky past 3 years (narrowing it down and not to disrespect your bad times) and I found that humor kept me going. Also, try (try) and keep the most positive attitude that you can. That is my only advice aside from pray.
I hope the New Year brings you everything good that 2009 didn't and that your situation improves greatly...
    Best wishes!

  • @theladyofabundance - Thanks for the virtual hug.  It means a lot.  I thinking hugging is the least of what the kids are doing virtually these days.  I found out I have three old computers I can scrap so in a while I will be getting a new computer and then I can't begin to imagine all the catching up I will need to do.  I hope you had a wonderful holiday season.

  • @LUNAPHIA - I understand about not having any luck if it wasn't for bad luck.  I seem to have been born under a bad sign.  I hope you had a wonderful holiday season.

  • @VioletMoonDancer7 - I think because my dad is older and has diabetes he is not considered for a transplant.  Even if he was, I probably wouldn't be able to give him one of mine since I had problems in my youth.  I hope you had a great holiday season.

  • @itsjustamething - Thanks...I tell you that my humor has been improving.  Last night I was tossing and turning and I thought of something so funny it had me in tears but I didn't write it down and now I can't remember.  Such is life.  I hope you had a great holiday season.
