  • Idiosyncrasies

Is there something out there that you are convinced you are the only person in the world that does it?

I always thought there were a few things that I did that only I did.  The first idiosyncrasy was crushed by Seinfeld.  I can't remember when this started but for as long as I have known, I take my shirt off to drop a deuce.  Then I saw George Costanza doing the same thing.  I felt weird about it but at least I never walked out of the bathroom without a shirt.  This is why I avoid public restrooms.  I have to have home field advantage for that action which sort of ties into my second idiosyncrasy.  I admire my handiwork.  After cleaning myself I stand up and look and then flush but this has just recently started because I have health issues.  I don't know if that is disturbing enough so I'll say it...I lose a lot of blood when I drop a deuce and the doctors haven't figured it out.  They think they get it figured out and then a test result comes back and it contradicts their diagnosis.  Anyway, I haven't been letting on about that but I have been seeing specialists at the UW hospital the past few weeks.  No one knows what is wrong with me and it's fucking scary.  This has been going on for a few years.  I get better and then it comes back worse than the previous time.  Anyway, I should probably stop there.

My third idiosyncrasy is that when I get warm at my house, instead of shedding my shirt, I ditch the pants.  Lately it's been the opposite.  I discovered a few pairs of my Zubaz pants from when I was in grade school.  They are a little tight and have a few holes in them but they are fun to wear around the house.

So do you have anything that you do that you think you are the only person in the world to do?

And I forgot, Saturday was Cat-Purr-Day

  • Yeesh. I hope you feel better.

  • Good luck getting the #2 situation figured out.

As far as idiosyncrasies, most of mine center around food/eating. I tend to eat one item at a time - first all of my starch, then all of my veg, then all of my protein. I also scope out each item & try to save the "best" bite for last. It's weird, I know. People have commented on it. I also try to even out my chewing so that the teeth on one side don't get 'worn down' far faster than the teeth on the other side. This is also why I try to eat even numbers of things.

  • until very, VERY recently, i thought i was the only person who spoke openly to strangers about my defacating habits

  • hmm. i dunno. i don't think so.

your pictures reaffirm my decision to get a cat when I move out of state (if that happens).

  • EVERYONE looks! and if they don't, they should. how else are you going to know if something is terribly wrong.

  • I really hope you get that health thing figured out.  I would be scared too.  I'm sure it sucks to be poked and prodded all the time, but worth it if they can get it figured out.  I hope they find out what's wrong soon.

I do what the above person does...i save the best bite for last.  I have some OCD tendencies and one of them involves freaking out if the windshield wipers are on too high without enough rain.  I am also extremely stingy with washer fluid.

  • I hope they figure out what's wrong and are able to get you healthy again.  My mom has been dealing with intestinal issues for about the past year, test after test after test and they still don't know what's wrong, it can be frustrtating.

The cats are adorable!  :)   I almost lost one of mine today.  I had all the windows open and fell asleep on the couch.  When I woke up I noticed there was a big hole in one of the window screens and a cat had gone misisng.  All my cats are indoor only cats and I had no idea how long ago she had gotten out.  I started calling her name and finally heard her meowing back, she was under my nieghbor's deck.  I was so happy I found her, would have broken my heart if I hadn't.

@ZepBlueEyedGirl - Except for the chewing equally on both sides, I eat my food the same way as you, lol.

  • That 3rd one is hilarious!!!

I will pick random words and alphabetize the letters therein.  It's usually a word I see on a billboard, or a book, or something random that catches my eye.  Sometimes I'll also try to form sentences (or just words that fit together) so that the letters in the words in the sentence equal factors of three or five.  I think that's the right math term, anyway -- so that the sentence has exactly 15 or 20 or 25 letters?  I don't admit this to many people, so I don't know if anyone else does it or not.

That does sound fucking scary.  I really hope they find out what's wrong soon . . .

  • I hope they get you figured out soon and that it's something they can help you manage, and that it's nothing serious.  Have you had the pleasure of the endoscopy/colonoscopy yet?  Fun, fun.  Actually, it can be quite unsettling to be dealing with digestive issues.  I was relieved to find out I don't have Crohn's, or cancer, or celiac disease, but "only" IBS, which is just unpredictable, uncomfortable, and makes every day a surprise!

I have a weird thing I have to do when I am falling alseep.  I have to have a cotton sheet or quilt pulled tightly across my right cheek.  I don't know why.  It has to be woven cotton, not cotton knit.   Helps me get to sleep I guess.   Just something I subconsciously do, and didn't realize I was doing it until a few years ago.  Weird.

  • I really, really hope they will figure out what's up with you. That worries me. I know you've been dealing with it and the medical stuff for a long time. I assume they've ruled out stuff like hemmroids (spelling)0r IBS?! What you are experiencing is scary.

I can only sleep if my head is under the covers. I go barefoot as much as I can. If there is a hair in my food I can't eat the food. I straighten pictures on my walls, other people's walls, store walls...I'm gonna' stop now...'cause I got a million of these.

    LOVE the cats!!!

  • That almost makes me want a cat.

  • Awesome job,its really awesome site

    A | B | C | D

  • Ha - we have something in common. I rarely have pants on in the house,- cant stand them. The fucking huge scars and holes from being in the hospital still hurt like hell so if I do wear anything, it's just light jogging pants. For over 18 months after I got out, that's about all I wore inside or out. That medical problem sounds fucking crazy and I hope they figure it out soon. Have you ever made a list of what you eat - keep a record of what makes it any worse or better?

  • I am sure people might have told you, but try to stay positive on your health problem. Be optimistic. It's not scientifically proven but they say that people who tend to be optimistic actually heal faster. I hope it's nothing serious.

I put ice cubes in my hot coffee or tea, cos i hate it when it's burning-your-tongue hot and i'm impatient to let it cool for a couple of minutes. I also don't use umbrellas (that I can't explain). I had a thing about eating only the yellow m&m's but i don't care anymore. I quit eating them. And lastly, even though we don't speak english in my country, I tend to curse in english. I'm weird...sigh

  • well jeez i hope you're okayyyy... and that the doctors can figure it out, sooner than later, that's for sure... but, as far as the idiosyncracies go, me?  nope.  not a one. ;)

  • TEH KITTEHS R MAH PRESHUSSSESSSS

also, what everyone else said about the geniuses in lab coats. feel better soon :)

  • The 2nd kitty is kind of scarey looking to me. I don't know what kind it is but I've always though the ears on those were kind of creepy. But I love the kitties

Have they done a full body scan of you. Maybe you have pita. Eat forks or something in your sleep. Or have an ulcer. No I'm nowhere near a doctor but I am a hypochondriac So I'll probably start looking at my poop later on today too

As far as doing something weird. I sleep with a rock. It was a gift. I think its weird. I also sleep with a pound puppy... I think that's pretty weird too for an adult.

  • @ZepBlueEyedGirl -

I've been doing that a lot lately. I eat all my vegetables first so that way if I get full, I'm getting something healthy.

  • @my_little_niche -

They are so much fun. Where are you planning on moving?

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - If I go to grad school out of state, then I'll get kitties. My mom is pretty allergic to them, so if I'm instate she'll visit me and get sick. But if I'm out of state, chances are she won't visit enough to prevent me from getting them.

  • @SoftlyPearlsSlipOffAString -

My mom always told me that and this one doctor I saw told me I should keep a journal.

  • @ShamrockLover -

Thanks...there are only so many colonoscopies and blood tests a guy can handle.

I'm pretty liberal with my wiper fluid. If I see a smudge, I start spraying. I go through so much of that stuff. Oh I have OCD when it comes to video games especially sports games. When I play football games, I always try to keep my score a multiple of 7 and when I play a basketball game, I try to have my players score even numbers.

  • @Melissa___Dawn -

I am getting sick of all the tests. Just one right after the other. I feel like I am a science experiment instead of a human. The last thing they thought was that I might have severe lactose intolerance but they couldn't explain the massive blood loss.

A couple of summers ago, I took mine out to vets and when I bring them home they get all down and depressed and they hide from me. I took their kennels back out to my garage and my screen door didn't close. Well I feared that one of the cats got out. I searched in my house and couldn't find her. I looked all around outside my house. I drove around the neighborhood. I went back and inspected every square inch of my house. Well I was doing some work outside to take my mind off it and then I look up and she's sitting in one of my windows. She snuck into my basement from the outside and somehow got the door open. I was so relieved.

  • @ThatOneBlondeChick -

That's interesting. When I was in school and saw words on the board I always tried to translate them in as many languages as I could. When I see groups of numbers I always find out the factors or at least if they can be divided by 3.

Thanks, this "illness" or "condition" gets irritating.

  • @musicmom60 -

I've had numerous scopes. I remember one endoscope where they didn't put me under because I had a cold so I got to watch the whole thing on tv. They ruled out all those conditions you listed. The last thing they thought was that I had lactose intolerance but that wouldn't explain the massive blood loss.

I've always found sleep habits interesting. Despite having a huge bed, I curl up on one side and rarely move out of that side except when I am waking up.

  • @adamswomanlost -

Yeah, the doctors have run so many tests on me. I am a walking medical curiosity.

I sort of have the hair issue if I am eating out but if I am cooking at home and find one it doesn't bother me because it's mine...and get your mind out of the gutter.

    You sound pretty interesting.

  • @ItIsAllGravy -

I had a bat in my house last summer and one of mine was jumping like that but she kept missing.

  • @DickDoktorII -

The not wearing pants thing gets to be a hassle if people come knocking on my door. I have to scramble to put something on or sometimes I forget and answer the door as is. I realize I'm not wearing anything by the look of horror on the person's face.

  • When they finally diagnose it they can name it after you! I battled some of this medical stuff for years before they said, "You have IBS". Oh...and they've never said "You're normal".

Ha! My mind is always in the gutter! You get out, you're crowding me!

"Pretty interesting"...what a kind comment. That's like when people tell me..."wow, you have lots of energy"...polite way of saying "god, do you ever stop or hush?" Teehee!

Hope your day is going well so far!

  • @ccRowp -

For a while with this illness, I thought it was something life threatening so I planned everything for my death. It was really weird sitting down and thinking of that stuff.

Oh, I am like that with the ice-cubes and if I make coffee at home I let it cool before I drink. I know coffee is supposed to be consumed when warm but I am not a guy who likes overly hot things.

When Van Halen toured they had a rider clause that said they wanted so many pounds of M&Ms but only in one color. They said it was just a clause to make sure that the concert promoters actually read the contracts.

That's funny about cursing in English. When I was working in a tourist trap for a summer job, I had many co-workers who were from all over Europe. They all cursed in English. I asked about it and they said it was because the English meant something more. I didn't understand because I loved some of the phrases I learned in their languages.

  • @Peridot21 -

I think I will end up donating my body for science because maybe they will figure it out eventually.

I think your idiosyncrasy is that you are always so "kind"...;)

  • @BranmacFeabhail -

Thanks...I love that one of the cat slapping the kitten.

  • @NightlyDreams -

I forget what breed that one cat is but it looks like an alien. I sort of like that. It's cute.

I have had scopes in both ends and they turn up nothing. I knew a girl that had this compulsion to eat and suck on her hair. They ended up removing a hair ball from her stomach that weighed at least 5lbs.

There are times when I sleep that once I shut my eyes, I am out and I won't dream so the time I sleep feels like just minutes have went by.

  • @my_little_niche -

Ah...I see. Also you'd have to look for a place that allows for pets. It was weird when I was living in MN, every place I looked at said no pets and that was weird since one of the landlords had meth cooks in one of their former properties.

  • @adamswomanlost -

That IBS was one of the first thing they checked for, then ulcers, then cancer, then then then then then...it just keeps going on and on.

OK OK...I'll get out of the gutter.

I hope your day is going swell, mine has been quite slow.

  • This post should gross out a few. Not me, of course.

I hope they finally figure that shit out. Well, the condition you have, I meant.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

On the planning issue, don't do that again, please!

What languages did you came across? Any greek?

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

I'll pray they figure out what's wrong with you. In the mean time don't eat anything with aspirin in it. It would obviously exaserbate the problem.

  • @ZepBlueEyedGirl - I thought I was the only one! Everytime I share this tidbit about how I eat, the reciever's initial reaction is, "Do you have OCD??"

  • @ccRowp -

I had basics in koine and Biblical Hebrew, also have had German, French, Spanish, and Japanese in classes. I learned some Italian, Russian, Serbian, and Polish on the job.

  • @Unstoppable_Inner_Strength -

thanks...yeah it's been going on for some time. There's only so many colonoscopies a guy can handle.

  • wow man! that's impressive!

  • That bird catching cat is one athletic animal!  Most of my cats are too old and fat to leap like that.  Only four of them have maintained their school girl figures.

  • Oh no... They still haven't figured out what's wrong?.... :( ... That's so scary... I really hope you find somebody who can tell you what's going on and how to treat/cure it...

Anyway, Aww, completely adorable kitties... :)

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - "kind" huh? ...i notice you used the lil devil pic for that comment :P ...btw, i thought of an idiosyncrasy of mine last night ...but i have (very conveniently) forgotten it heh heh ;)

  • @judyrutrider -

My cats always seem so underweight but they are so active. They jump like that. I need to get a video camera to capture how they jump. I had a bat in my house last summer and one of mine was jumping like that but she never caught it and I am glad because those bats can carry rabies.

  • @mZdejavuZ -

I was good for a while and felt like I had it beat but in the past few weeks it's come back and well it seems worse than before.

I always forget to post on Cat-urday.

  • @Peridot21 -

Oh no, you caught me. Now I will fear your wrath. I really need to work out that signal but wait, it's for you. I'm so screwed.

Hmmm I think your idiosyncrasy would be selective memory.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

Oh nooo... I really hope they find what's wrong soon, because this sounds like it's getting more dangerous as time goes on... :( ...

  • Could you be suffering from internal hemroids? They need to take a scope and check it out!

And the cats are so awesome!

  • @theladyofabundance -

Yeah, they've scoped me on both ends but couldn't find anything. There's only so many of those scopes a guy can handle. When I got one down the throat, I had a respiratory illness so they were concerned about putting me under. I was up and awake to watch the whole thing on the tv.

Yes, I always forget to do my Cat-urday post but that's probably because my Fridays get away from me and I post the celebrity posts on Saturday and then football season has started so...yeah, I need a support group for football addicts.
