  • Patriotism

Because nothing fires me up more than ignorance.  I was reading this post about patriotism and how people use the old cliche "don't love it, then leave it".  That ignorance permeates throughout our society and then to have someone say that liberalism has destroyed our country while failing to note that if it wasn't for a group of liberals there would be no fucking United States of America.  Every problem in America is because of "liberals"?  Oh yeah, and also the fault of atheists and non-Christians because Lord knows there are no liberal Christians or conservative atheists.  The problem with America is well...Americans.

Why don't you all just leave this country if you don't like how things are being run and give it back to my people but then our casinos would suffer.  Just shut the fuck up and gamble.

  • I think I've actively explained why I won't leave the country.
    Just saying.

  • @quodmenutriut -

I know I know but that comment that I received...it just irritated me beyond belief. I had to leave the computer and run errands but I was still fuming.

  • yep. thats why I closed my FB account...wanted to punch people in the face.

  • I am of the mind (whether in a country, school, work-place, etc.) if things are not the way they should be, stick around and try to evoke change...try to be a part of the solution. Try to model the way things should be. I love America and plan to stay here. Besides, I'm pretty sure no other country would have me.
Good job of getting your point across.

  • @macphoto -

I guess I was passive aggressive about facebook. I just deleted people who all they did was...liberal this, socialism that, conservative this, Bush that...it just is so played out. No one has the answers and no government is perfect or has survived the test of time.

  • I hate when people say that too. Geez. It's not like we'd be happy even on a deserted island..

People just can't make up their mind on what they want which is quite sad.

  • @adamswomanlost -

Exactly...instead of criticizing the opposite end of the spectrum, do something. This tea party thing, while in theory is good, should have been organized something like 6 or 7 years ago and they should actually do something other than sling mud in the campaigns.

I think a few countries would have me but then I'm probably on a watch list so I couldn't get in.

  • @Hinase -

To borrow a line, Americans are like a woman carrying a whole ham complaining about not having bread for sandwiches.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

very true. Some people just are too dense to realize you need both...liberal and conservative...called balance...kinda why we have checks and balances in this country...

  • Having traveled a decent portion of the world I can say for a fact that there is no other country I'd rather live than right here in the U.S.A. If this place is bad, I don't want to see the worst. I try not to air my political or religious beliefs on social networking sites. Unless I'm hammered.. but even then I delete them the next morning. For me it's just not open for discussion but I had to chime in on this one. Someone must have really pissed you off.

Also, I saw Wanted posters with your face on them in Holland, Germany, and Thailand. I won't ask but if they were on your list of places to expat you may want to look elsewhere.

  • I've written 3 comments so far and i erased them. I wont get into it and only because i'm not american. I will only say that globally, 90% of the times, patriotism displays mentally poor and ignorant people.

  • mm your delicious tears

  • but...it is true...only white people can be racist. ;)

  • But a civil war over ideology followed by a cleansing bloodbath is the surest way to a perfect utopia. Didn't you get the memo?

  • haha, i didn't know you had indian in you.

  • I have to laugh at both 'parties', and agree that there has to be more common ground betwixt both to have any positive momentum for the country.  We have been moving backwards for most of the last 10 years, and it only seems to be accelerating, presently. But it is undeniable that there are good and decent patriots on both sides.

As far as this 'Liberal' thing is concerned, I have to laugh when these people of freedom of speech and compassion and peace seem to be the first ones to get angry, use hurtful words, cut friends from friends lists (thereby effectively censoring people), demonize those they don't agree with, using nothing more than ad-hominum attacks....

Yes, yes, Republicans do it, too, but Liberals seems to want to corner the market on these things.

Hell, if you can't laugh at silly politics, you're a fanatic!

  • @Dust_to_Dust84 -

I agree. There is no where else I would want to live that could equal my experience here. I got beyond pissed. I don't care what your message is as long as there is no ignorance in your rhetoric. I mean I don't vote across the board for one party.

I had a friend that was an officer in the Navy. He flew an F16 and had a near death experience when an engine blew up on the runway as he was exiting the plane. He transferred over to intelligence and whenever he called me you could tell someone was listening into our conversation. After he was out he mentioned how my name turned up in a watch list. I figure I can't get into Germany because one of my relatives is a huge leader in the neo-Nazi movement.

  • @ccRowp -

There is a difference between patriotism and jingoism. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your country and heritage but when it is taken to extremes and forced on others that is when it becomes problematic. I once read a story by Mark Twain for Xanga. It was called The War Prayer. Read it some time. That is American jingoism and not patriotism.

  • @TheSecretLifeOfPandas -

    Well then I am 15/16ths racist...sigh

  • @dirtbubble -

Oh sorry I missed that one. That must have been when I was in a Christian college and they were telling us that we have to obey Republican government only and if a Democrat gets elected to disregard Romans 13.

  • @SoftlyPearlsSlipOffAString -

Just a little...I always wish I had one of the Sioux tribes near Minneapolis in my lineage. Then I would be entitled to a monthly $25,000 check from casino revenue.

  • These pretty much sum up the clogged, monumentally contradictory ideas of far-right, Faux Noise Repukelikkkans.

  • Patriotism is the belief that your country is superior to all others because you were born in it.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - No shit? Man Nazis piss me off. I'm sorry to say that you're missing out (but not on the Nazis). Germany is a beautiful country and any country that deems it socially acceptable to have a beer at lunch is ok with me. I do love a nice cold beer with my weinershnitzle. I probably botched that spelling.

Anyway in regards to your comment about jingoism, I had to look that word up because thats new to me. Love of and devotion to ones country ie; patriotism, is definitely far different from jingoism.

@ccRowp - 60% of statistics are made up on the spot ;)

  • @Eroticus_Maximus -

The two party system has never worked. I can't think of one nation off the top of my head that has survived on a two party system. People need to wake up and quit being spoonfed by the media and the two parties. The thing I am asking about whether or not this Tea Party is racially motivated is where have they been in the past ten years? They just started up once Obama took office. They should have been marching on Washington after the Bush administration introduced the Patriot Act. I hate the hypocrisy on both sides.

  • @In_Reason_I_Trust -

Yes, FOX news...I can watch for maybe 5 or 10 minutes before I want to pull out my 12 gauge and put a few rounds through my TV. Maybe they me to do that with their yellow journalism. I blow up my TV and have to go buy a new one thereby boosting the economy. My god...Rupert Murdoch is a damn genius! Have you ever noticed how the FOX network has some of the most offensive shows on basic cable and yet FOX News gears itself on family and Christian values?

  • @exatreides -

That's the definition of jingoism. Patriotism is purely the love of your country because you are a resident there.

  • @Dust_to_Dust84 -

No no no no no it's 86% of stats are made up on the spot.

Some day I'll get to Germany but it will probably have to be with fake papers.
I think beer at lunch is socially acceptable in this part of WI because I was out today doing work for my parents and I was driving through this town of 200 and one of the bars was packed. Granted people may not have been drinking. Wienerschnitzel and spaetzle would be my last meal if I was ever on death row.

I can't help but feel that so many people don't know the difference and that most so called patriots in America are practicing jingoism.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - Then you haven't been paying attention; that movement has been gaining momentum for at least that long.  It took a little impetus to get it going, but as I read you decry FOX, then it's obvious you wouldn't know these facts, as they've been reporting them for the last good 6 or so years, possibly more.

That's what being biased gets you, though; it blinds you to the truths of the other side.  I go through hours of wasted time listening to both FOX and then the myriad leftie networks to glean those precious truths.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay -

I had to look 'jingoism' up as well..And i should have used extreme patriotism.. It's one thing to know your shit and being a patriot and another knowing jack and call yourself a patriot. I hate people that have no idea about history and politics and get themselves involved, calling themselves patriots..

    @Dust_to_Dust84 -

I should have said "90% in my opinion". My bad

  • @ccRowp -

Oh and the same goes for people that label themselves as Christian yet have no clue what the Bible says. There was this test that was conducted and it proved that atheists knew the Bible better than so called Christians.
