Homework Assignment 8/22
Class, I read and graded your previous assignment. I spoke to soon last week when I said some of you were getting the hang of answer the “why” portion of the assignment. I shouldn’t have opened my mouth. You get an A-. Don’t ask to see the rubric because I lost it while riding with my moonroof open. It flew right out the top. You know what’s funny? I had a teacher in high school that lost every semester test while driving his motorcycle. I just looked at him when he announced it at the start of the second semester because who drives a motorcycle IN WISCONSIN IN JANUARY!
Here’s this week’s assignment:
You have your choice of assignment this week. If you want extra credit you can do both assignments. Make sure for #1 you include why you enjoy one over the other.
Get to work.
1. I’d go with pancakes because I’ve never had true waffles. I’ve had Eggo waffles but I don’t think those count. I actually am saying this because the pancake lobbyist paid me a visit and treated me to Denny’s pancakes this weekend.
2. I am on the fence with this one. Part of me says that I would take money to go to a school and then part of me says I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t take money because I know it is wrong but I would take money if I knew my family needed it.

Pancakes because you can roll up eggs and sausage in them and dip them in syrup and oh mah gaw!
Pancakes, because I don’t have to answer why!!
I would accept money to attend a school because college is expensive. Money talks loudly, and that would be much better than being tied down in student loans.
French toast > Waffles or Pancakes. I once had that debate when I was doing xtv and that was my conclusion.
My first answer would have been pancakes, but my Slovak pancakes are different than American pancakes and a lot better and versatile (they’re basically crepes).
But, if we’re going between American pancakes and waffles, I’ll say waffles because I love how the butter and syrup collects in all the dents
Plus, American pancakes get too soggy too quickly, in my opinion.
PANCAKES!! first it’s deeper in my memory how they are breakfast treats
out with dad on sundays listening to the the church deacons in the
smoking room discussing the real church business…wwwwoooo eee! six
sure doesn’t give a fig newton about how this or that one ‘s sexual
scandals. forget which church but someone sure got some pink paper
signed that day. I of course truly didn’t get the hide the sausage
remark then. mcdonalds….prior to the non-smoking “adult” room. I
like pancakes and sausage. i of course I mean the sasuage slid
between the sheets of warmth…. oh nevermind.
Pancakes
1. Waffles. It is deeply satisfying to me to put syrup or whatever on waffles and make sure it’s at the same level in all of the little squares. Yes, I know that’s odd.
2. I may not do real athletics, but I did accept money to attend the school from which I eventually graduated. As long as the school isn’t the wrong school for you, there’s no reason not to accept all the help you can get paying the ridiculously high tuition. Besides, being a college athlete is pretty much like working your way through college–same type of schedule and type of commitment, same monetary reward.
I’ve never had waffles for breakfast, so I’d try those.
Pancakes because they are so fluuffffy! Add blueberry jam or honey and bananas and I’ve got the heathens Heaven. Wait, what? Seriously.
I’ll take all the money. Money is good. Call me. After midnight. Bring money.
Waffles… I grew up making pancakes and would love to have waffles instead although I just love the smell more than the taste. =D
No breakfast for me coz’ I always woke-up very late, sometimes at 2:00pm.
Waffles > pancakes. Waffles have a better texture and hold butter and syrup better whereas pancakes just get soggy.
And if I was an athlete, it would depend on the school and the sport. Although I suppose high profile athletes at big schools are the only ones getting offered the big bucks from the boosters and whatnot. Here’s the thing; the whole NCAA system is kinda screwed up. A lot of these kids come from basically nothing and while their scholarships do cover tuition and whatnot, tuition isn’t always enough. The big schools make big money off these kids (I know Carolina has something like a two BILLION dollar endowment) but the kids themselves might not be able to afford to go get pizza with their friends… there needs to be some kind of stipend or something for em, because that just isn’t fair. I know Brandan Wright left our basketball team before he was really ready to go pro cause his family needed the money. I can’t help but think a lot more kids would be able to actually finish college or at least get more playing experience if they weren’t in that kind of situation and that would be better for everyone in the long run.
@girlForgetful - I like your answer so I’m saying the same thing for the same reason
Waffles. And now I’m hungry.
waffles – because they got a crispier, crunchier and lighter feel to them…
1. Waffles!!!!!!!! Why? They are crunchy, yet soft. They get the butter and syrup all down in their little symmetrical nooks and crannies. They just say “Good Morning, Love!”, unlike pancakes, who don’t speak to me.
2. Yes. If I knew for sure this was one of the schools I really wanted to go to, I would accept money from them to help me get through college. Besides they would be in essence paying me to do a job for them. When I was younger the sport could have been tennis. But they offered no deals in the Dark Ages! I was an amazing tennis player in HS and college and was asked to be on the teams, but I didn’t have time because I had to work a job to support myself.
HUGS and slap an A+ on me!
What’s the assignment, an essay answer? LOL
@AdamsWomanFell - I love that your breakfast speaks to you.
pancakes…no doubt
Pancakes. They’re more versitile and interactive. You can personalize them, make pictures with the batter, bang the pan, flip ‘em, roll ‘em, tear ‘em ect. . .plus clean up is easier. Waffles, well, either a toaster (lame) or pour the batter into a waffle iron, making sure you greased it well (and you won’t) then have to clean the bloody thing out, so you loose a good amount of time scrubbing…
As for money for school, think it would depend if I wanted to go to the school offering. Then it’s just chips, yes. Then it helps with my education and would help ease the financial stress. If it was one I had no desire to attend. . .no. I’d feel like a whore and be miserable, wouldn’t play as good, get kicked from the school, loose the money, work at a crappy job to pay it back, turn to bottle…it would all end in tragedy.
@girlForgetful - hmmm I have never had them that way. I may have to try living.
@randaness - I had a craving for pancakes the past couple of weeks and I went to Denny’s and was cured.
@ItIsAllGravy - I’ve felt conflicted when I hear people say college athletes should be paid. I’ve thought if they do get paid for playing sports then they should have to pay to attend school.
@Rob_of_the_Sky - I remember making french toast once and I added bourbon. Good thing I didn’t eat it for breakfast otherwise school would have been interesting and my students would’ve wondered why I was sleeping on my desk.
@Cestovatelka - hmm these Slovak pancakes intrigue me. I’m now hungry for potato pancakes.
@starmanjones - I remember leading a bible study for men and we ate pancakes and bacon. That was such a great day.
@dmcx - I ate some this weekend.
@opticalnoise - hahaha…I remember when I was a kid and had to fill up the waffles equally. My parents thought I had OCD.
See I can see why college athletes would demand money because they bring in so much revenue to schools especially football however if they get paid that sort of takes away the scholarships which should be going to smart kids who can’t afford school. I also fear that if they pay athletes it will raise tuition rates for regular students.
@nattata - wow, that is amazing. I think waffles were pretty much standard but then they were the frozen kind that you put in the toaster.
@windoftheforest - I love making chocolate chip pancakes and drenching them in blueberry syrup. If I don’t post for a few days know that I went into a diabetic coma.
@pinktiger335 - here’s something weird, when I was first out on my own I didn’t have a griddle so I took pancake mix and put it in my sandwich maker and I’d make these square pancakes. They were so good.
@RestlessButterfly - I rarely eat breakfast. For some reason my stomach can’t handle food after I wake up. I need a few hours before I can eat.
@carolinavenger - my mom always told me when I asked for waffles other than the eggo variety that they were the same as pancakes
The NCAA needs reforms but there are no answers as to what should be done.
@LadyofWaters - I need to try to eat them that way.
@emily_shannon - no onions for you. I am thinking of some potato pancakes with some sour cream and onions.
@Zissu25 - now I need to find some waffles
@AdamsWomanFell - well maybe you should go to see a doctor if your waffles are talking to you.
Yeah the NCAA needs reforms for athletics but I don’t think there is any clear answer.
@Diva_Jyoti_3 - there is no easy answer
@hesacontradiction - I had some this weekend
@mtears - I love adding chocolate chips, chocolate sauce, cinnamon and honey to my pancake batter.
See so many of these athletes that are getting caught taking money are ones that have their entire tuition and board covered by scholarships. It makes no sense to me why they would take money.
Waffles vs pancakes..too close to call. I love them both!! Always take the lower calorie syrup..No, I don’t have diabetes, I just prefer it.
@greatredwoman - I have started to get more lo-cal items. They taste the same.
@godfatherofgreenbay - …Yeah, I’ll stick with the waffles then.
