  • Tattoo Thursday 10/6

It's hot...85F.  It shouldn't be that hot at this time of the year.  I was sweating like someone turned on a water faucet inside me when I was filling out customs reports for care packages I'm sending to soldiers.  I feel like I've lost a few pounds after standing in that unairconditioned post office with the sun shining directly on me.

I took out the terrible because I liked some of these tattoos.

Do you see a lady talking to a clown or a skull?  And the other is something from M.C. Escher.

I love ambigrams and this tattoo is pretty cool.  When you look at it one way it says Arts & Science and then when you look at it the other way it says Philosophy.

Can you see Jesus' face?                        Fish and birds

Do you see a face or a man playing saxophone?

This is the same tattoo but it is two different portraits.  It's a queen and a king.  Not the best but still a pretty cool concept.

I think I'd rather try to weigh those with my hands as opposed to the scale.

This is some painting in tattoo form

    Another ambigram...sinner and saint.

Do you see a lady looking at herself in a mirror or do you see a skull?

This tattoo is full of win.

This was one of the players of the Boston Bruins.  He celebrated winning the Stanley Cup by getting a tattoo.  Clearly he is a champian and not a champion.  You'd think someone would offer spelling help but then he probably took a few checks to the head so you can't blame him.

And as proof from this tattoo, champions aren't made in the classroom.

    Fill'er up!

You know, I love the artistry behind this one but...WHY?

    Lucky you!

You know that's not quite something I'd be bragging up in tattoo form.

I guess tattoos don't offer advice.

Wow, Jesus had very high nipples.

Apparently Gumby died for your sins and now you have the right to play with clay.

FUCK YES!  BEST! PORTRAIT! EVER!  I don't know which is creepier, the real Walken or tattoo Christopher Walken.

  • I really like the optical illusions. If I was to ever get another tattoo I'd have to do something like that though I don't know what one I'd choose. Obviously not getting one anytime soon.
It's good your doing the gifts for soldiers. I should jump on that. I have many cousins and family past in the armed services. Plus friends who've gone off now.

  • Yeah, I dunno.  Some of those are pretty awesome.

  • hahaha! these were great - also, those ambigrams are really cool. I just learned that word from your blog. I feel like I learn a lot of things from your blog! :)

also, that nipple on jesus' neck is very distracting... hahaha

  • I have a friend who has the sinner/saint tattoo. I really like some of the illusion tattoos, so I'm glad this wasn't a "terrible" issue, ;)

  • I ADORE Christopher Walken!
Wow! Some of these tats are very cool! Love the illusion ones!
Poor Gumby! And why is Pokey smiling?

    HUGS!

  • I like the art&science/philosophy one.

  • A ticket stub? Are you kidding me? LOL

  • Loving the optical illusions! Very neat :)

  • @AdamsWomanFell - yeah, that was my question!  He looks way too happy in that one!

Some of these are really nice artwork, but I can't imagine getting it on my body. But then, that's just me, and I really don't want a tattoo to begin with. :)

  • I didn't know Gumby died for our sins.

  • The Bruins tattoo was spelled wrong by the artist...lol.

I have 11 tattoos...but the scale one would look like it would hurt so bad!

  • Interesting ones this week....I like illusions and stuff, but wouldn't get a tattoo or anything...still, very nice artwork on some of these.

The ticket stub?  Ok.....whatever floats your boat, dude.

I love Christopher Walken, but that tattoo is just icky!

ambigrams....sounds like a fun art project, might have to try some of those.

  • you're right.... there is some real ink talent shown here....

  • Jesus' face...?  I see the face of a young Rabindranath Tagore. 0_O
As for creepiest Christopher Walken, methinks that title goes to head-of-the-illegal-underground-table-tennis-Christopher-Walken.
    ...
Incidentally enough James Hong ROCKS! m/

  • I love the M. C. Escher tattoos.  Others are amazing also.

  • I want Jesus on my nipple.

  • I like all these! Thanks for the inspiration

  • I really like the "love yourself" tattoo.  It looks newer than the cutting scars, and was probably placed there to help the person stop cutting.  I hope it worked.

On the flip side, it kind of also reminds people looking at the tattoo that cutting is a mental issue, not just "something freaks do", and forces them to have a little sympathy.  It's a serious illness, one that I've been blessed not to have, but I have had friends who were recovering cutters.  I'm a big fan of the concept that tattoos can/should be gotten to commemorate important events in your life... both good AND bad... good for obvious reasons, bad so that the lessons, rarely cheaply earned from the low points in life, will never be forgotten.

  • @LadyofWaters - I have to say part of doing soldier care packages was because I got so sick of people saying "support the troops support the troops" yet they did nothing to support the troops other than say they did.  Words are empty.  Actions speak loudly.

@blonde_apocalypse - Yeah I just did a tattoo post this week and left the terrible out.

@raspberryjade - I love ambigrams.  I tried teaching them in art class but failed miserably.  I got inspired after I read about them in Angels and Demons.

@ArmyWife4Life2007 - Yeah I thought I should change it up because not all tattoos are bad

@AdamsWomanFell - Pokey is a degenerate?  He shouldn't be smiling because without Gumby then Pokey is off TV.

@heythereJOANN - Yeah those ambigrams are awesome.

@raiderjester - AND IT'S GREEN DAY!  At least they could've gotten a ticket stub tattoo of a quality band.

@Cestovatelka - It's amazing to think that those optical illusions are tattoos.

@leaflesstree - Yeah, I love those ambigrams.  That is so cool.

@Shining_Garnet - I think it's in the Gospel of Davey and Goliath.

@The_Pyrate_Wenches_Ramblings - I know a lot of tattoo artists who say that if something is misspelled they will tattoo it the way the customer presents it.  I've always wondered if the tattoo artist has ever been responsible for a misspelling.  Thanks for clearing that up.  I didn't realize you had that many tattoos.

    @BenelliMan - glad you enjoyed

@musicmom60 - Yeah I wouldn't get any of them but they are fun to look at
I do not get that ticket stub.  It's one thing to be proud of seeing a band but not that proud.  I've seen many bands that I've loved but never thought a tattoo would be the best way to remember it.
Ambigrams were big in the novel Angels and Demons.  They are quite fun.

@roscoes_farm - yeah, I just couldn't bring myself to call it a terrible tattoo post

@Lakakalo - Thanks for sharing that article about Tagore, never heard of him.

@curiousdwk - Yeah I taught Escher in math and art class, never thought I'd see his work in tattoo form.

@ShimmerBodyCream - Get a nipple pierced and get a crucifix nipple ring so he can dangle from your nipple and if you're naughty and need forgiveness you just give it a tug.

@x_damaged_yet_unbroken_x - Hahaha...glad I could help.  Do I get a finder's fee if you decide to get one of these?

@ithiliya - I have seen a lot of 9/11 tattoos by firefighters.  It's pretty touching.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - You are very much right here.  I should get ahold of a few friends and send some packages off for christmas.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - so very true. Something worth remembering, at least!

  • @raiderjester - I'd get The Jayhawks or The Doors of the 21st Century or Radiohead ticket stubs tattooed on me before Green Day

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - I'd rather get some local band. At least then I'd have a good story.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - You're welcome.  Errr... Mr. T seems to pop up in the strangest places. :D
