  • Homework Assignment 1/9

    In my last homework assignment I was feeling a little depressed because a lot of shit happened to me and it was the holidays and I don't do the holidays cheerfully.  So I give you an A+

    Time to sack up.

    And here's your next assignment:

  • All democrats are hippies.  Because, well.  Duh.  

    Also, Republicans are usually the better educated of the bunch.  That's why they tend to be less shitty with our money and understanding things like the laws.  Hippies smoke most of their brains away so they don't get things like, I dunno.. rational thought.  It makes at least very similar to MOST Democrats.

  • Around these here parts, All Republicans are Rednecks is more true than Democrats being hippies. (I chose that particular answer because, I immediately thought of the rebel flags and gun racks in the back of beat up old pickup trucks with Bush bumper stickers).

    I have changed my mind about the band Anvil. I think they're pretty swell as a result of a documentary I saw on them, and they have matured to the point that I can almost hear the lyrics. Plus, the drummer, Robb Reiner, is pretty good; not to mention, their wives seem normal and down to earth and dedicated to their husbands, which one would not expect in the world of Heavy Metal music (at least that's what I think being judgemental). I chose this answer because it was fun.

  • I used to hate the music of Joe Walsh, but as I got older, I came to appreciate his humor. Also, disco music in general... I hated it in the seventies, but now, I listen to it a lot.

  • I'm going to answer B.  I don't think either statements are true.  I think a truer statement would be saying all politicians are liars.  Face it they are all out for their good and no one elses.

  • AC/DC is a band my kids used to listen to and I was always yelling at them to turn it down.  Today I like AC/DC.

    I think the only stereotype for any politician is that they are powerful and scary as they never do what they say they will.  They loose sight that they are there for the people instead of the paycheck.

  • @ZombieMom_Speaks - It's a demographic thing more than anything else.  Look at any poli-sci book or sociology book.  If you're not a liberal in your 20s, you don't have a heart.  If you're not a liberal in your 50s, you don't have a brain.  It's one of my favorite lines   I wish they didn't have so many religious stances in the party, but I think it's something that needs to be bred out of the party.

    Republicans/rednecks, for sure. I have yet to meet one who isn't against pretty much everything I think is okay. Little things like gay marriage, religious equality (if there's an attempt to insert christianity into a place no religion belongs - schools, monuments of faith in government building, etc. - there is always a republican behind it), the women's movement (there still isn't equal pay for equal work), universal health care...it goes on.

    It's also rare to happen upon a republican who doesn't have an issue with minorities.

  • @SasGal - I'll agree that republicans need to focus less on their own religious identity. However, being liberal doesn't make me less informed or capable of rational thought.

  • @ZombieMom_Speaks - Democrats being hippies are MUCH more likely than Republicans being rednecks   That's all. 

    Look at it this way, "redneck" implies that someone works outside for a living

  • @SasGal - I admit to the hippie thing. Admittedly, working outside...not so much.

  • A. well, i never thought they sucked, but i certainly underappreciate RUSH back in the day.  and now i find their lyrics to be kinda brilliant.
    B.  all politicians suck.  i don't think people fit into either box.  people make choices based on their values.

  • What's your definition of a hippie? Asking an "either/or" question about such a hot button issue is bound to cause an arguement. I suppose that's what you were going for. I think a lot of politicians are not very ethical. Is that how you spell "arguement?" Looks funny.

  • The Republican thing is about half true, the Dem thing not at all, there really are no more hippies, sadly.

    My gut reaction almost always lasts on a band, however there is one person who, though she's my favorite singer songwriter ever, sometimes write songs which grow on me over many repeated listenings.  In the past they would have been called B side singles.

  • The first time I heard Tori Amos, it was the video for the song "Crucify" from her 'official' debut (she had a prior project called Y Kant Tori Read that she's probably not proud of.)

    By the time it got to the part where she's yodeling "cha-i-ey-ey-ins" I changed the channel.  Fast forward to her second album, and the video for "God" came on the tv. This was back when Mtv played music videos.

    THAT is an awesome video. I became an immediate fan. As you probably know, she's remained a goddess I worship fervently.

    The exact same thing happened with The Cranberries. First I saw their "Linger" video, and I thought, "eh, pretty unoriginal."  But, then "Zombie" came out from their 2nd album, and OH...MY...GOD.  Been a huge fan ever since.

  • on a broad and generalizational scale democrats are more hippie than republicans are rednecks. just as republicans pander to big business and do whatever the money says to do, democrats tend to swing the other way and want do what the poor are begging for...

    i never have changed my mind about a band from sucking to swell, some i have liked and grown to love.. foo fighters would be a good example.. i liked their music., i was resistant over sentimental feelings about cobains passing, but in time found that they came into their own sounds and styles and are my favorite band now.

  • B is the easiest question to answer:
    Democrats are obviously hippies, because only hippies would believe in crazy stuff like science, high living standards for the middle class, healthcare for every citizen and budget surpluses. Also, Republicans are intelligent and educated, like George W Bush and Rick Perry, while Democrats are stupid and lack education, like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

  • @nattata - yeah this was the one that I posted and thought I was being tongue in cheek with the B question but some people didn't like that so I just didn't answer it and tried to forget it.
