  • Homework Assignment 3/5

Class, I read your last assignment.  I enjoyed reading your responses.  I think most people were fans of Pizza Hut but there wasn't any one name people agreed on.  Either way, it was a fun assignment.  Your grade is an A+.

    Now here's your new assignment:

    A.

    B.

Answer one or the other but make sure you clearly answer both questions.  For extra credit do both questions.

    Get to work!

    My answers
    A.  I gave up porn and the "enjoyment" of porn and sexuality.  After the first two weeks I thought I was going to go out of my mind but with self-imposed celibacy, the first two weeks are the hardest.

    B.  I think if you've been a long time reader you will be able to say that my favorite show is Freaks and Geeks.  I reviewed every episode here on Xanga and gave my insights.  It was the best 18 weeks of my blog.  I think I'd also include Deadwood because I like westerns but this one was more enjoyable because it was probably what life was like during that period of time and maybe one of the most accurate westerns I've seen.  There is one downfall, I saw more of Ron Swanson than I ever wanted to see.  I think I'd also include Seinfeld just because it was such a great comedy and there were so many stories that are so memorable all these years later.  All in the Family and Happy Days also are on my list because they have left a legacy on TV.  That 70s Show because they mention my town a few times over the course of the series.  I probably would also have to add The Shield, NYPD Blue, Rome, Family Guy, and Bullshit.

  • I gave up doing the weekly homework assignments for lent.

  • 1. "I love Lucy," Because she is my hero, and role model...I absolutely adore the woman and think that "I Love Lucy" is a tv sitcom at it's finest

    2. "Bones," My boyfriend and I are addicted to this show...I feel like I can relate to her sometimes because (even though I'm not a genius like her), her character and I seem to get caught up on something so simple, like a joke, because we think too much into it. I don't think I've ever gotten more involved in a fake tv relationship (between Bones and Booth). Overall, it's a good show.

    3.  As of right now..."Conan" would be my third choice of favorite tv shows. He is not only funny, but a ginger too. I love when he cracks jokes about redheads, because I can always relate. Plus his random and sporadic hand gestures make me feel normal. "Face off" would be tied at third with "Conan." "Face Off," is about special effects makeup, and people compete to be the best...It's pretty incredible at how creative people can be.

I also love anything on the History Channel and the SiFy Channel

  • Chocolate.  Still going strong, gotta read the Bible more though.  And, generally improve on a lot of stuff

  • A. no, i did not. i am a bad girl.

    B. The Office, Family Guy.. they're hilarious.. and Grey's Anatomy.. it's just good drama... i also love Dexter and American Horror Story, but they aren't on right now so, sad face... :(

  • "Answer one or the other but make sure you clearly answer both questions." This is a trick question! But I shall answer both because everybody wants extra credit and everybody likes giving their opinion.

    A) No, I did not, because I'm not Christian.

    B) Don't make fun of me, but I will list these in chronological order of my favorites first:
i.) I was only 11-12 years old when I watched my first favorite TV show: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Why? Because she kicked some serious ass.
ii.) The Office. Why? Four reasons: Steve Carrell as Michael Scott and then a few character by the name of Dwight Schrute, Andy "the 'Nard Dog" Bernard and Erin. :) It's always a feel-good, pick-me-up for me.
iii.) Right now, Vampire Diaries. Don't laugh at me! But, I'm serious, it's such a good show.... I blame Twilight for ruining vampires for everybody! Before Twilight came along, vampires had a really good reputation (aka Buffy the Vampire Diaries).

What are yours?! I'm super curious!!

  • I have no answer for Question A.

    B. The Voice - because of Adam Livine.NCIS & CSI - I like detective/police TV series

  • 1. I gave up Lent! Somebody stop me lol i'm such a silly goose!

    2.Kitchen Nighmares: because it's awesome.
    Survivorman: because it's awesome.
    Mythbusters: because it's awesome.
Face Punch TV: doesn't exist yet, but it should. That would be awesome.

  • 1. I don't do Lent. I grew up thinking Mardi Gras was just for the partying.

    2. These are probably not accurate at all because I'm so fickle but...
Lie to Me - I thought Cal Lightman was hot (and I have an obsession with Pulp Fiction)
Nip/Tuck - who doesn't love a show with sex, blood, violence, and a Michael Jackson look-a-like
Chopped - Just because my TV always seems to end up on the Food Network, and the ingredients they use are usually interesting.

  • I like Anthony Bourdain -- its fine to hear his spin on the places he visits.
I like Top Twenty Stupid Videos, mainly cause Tonya Harding is on it.
I like BBC's Top Gear... I'm always happy to listen to guys shoot the shit about cars.

  • 1. Lent is not part of the culture I was raised in. But neither is partying all day every day until party supplies run out. I have no excuse.

    2. Haven't had TV for most of my adult life. I really liked what I saw of The Shield. Twin Peaks is a top pick. The original Star Trek is almost a religion for me. If I eliminated The Shield due to lack of access, then my 3rd would be Kung Fu (original series).

  • Hummm, I gave up not gardening for lent? Not really... but I'm trying to get outside and do at least some gardening every day.

Tv shows... huuuuummm... well, currently it would be,

    1) Raising Hope. Makes me laugh my butt off.
    2) Doomsday Preppers. I would seriously like to see half of those people survive without electric or clean water for just two weeks let alone forever. Bwhahahahahaha! I have gone 10 days without electric, one time in my life, after a hurricane, and it about made me crack, so I know those dudes are gonna be in for a reality check.... one day.
3)American Pickers. Those guys are like vultures, and they're fun to watch.

Tv shows of all time would be...

    1) Firefly
    2) Star Trek
    and
    3) Gomer Pyle USMC

Weird, they all seem militaristic in a way.

  • No, I like to say all the Lent from my pocket until it becomes a super massive ball

    Justified
    House
    Sons of Anarchy

  • A. I didn't give up anything this year. Nothing was a sacrifice to give up.

    B. My Three Favorite shows      a. NCIS- I don't know but I really enjoy the characters and the crime scenes.
         b. Burn Notice- I enjoy the action and the fact that a spy tries to help out people yet there's the main story of him figuring out who burned him. I like some action.
         c. Phineus and Ferb - Just because my boyfriend @ Cucumber_Melonhead said that he likes the cartoon because of me. No, but it's a cartoon that you just don't mind watching. They're fun and there is always 2 main stories happening while the big sister is always trying to "bust" the younger brothers and their inventions always somehow disapear. =D I love TV

  • a) Homework, yes.

    b)1) Once Upon a Time
    2) Daily Show
    3) RuPaul's Drag Race (guilty pleasure)

  • Three's Company -"One Guy and Two Girls" Lol

Golden Girls- "Cool Funny Old Womean"...Lol and The A-Team- "Just Because!"

  • A. My Lenten Promise was to read for an hour a day, and then pray/read theological stuff for at least 30 minutes... yeah, I haven't for about a week and I feel terrible :(

    B.
    1) Criminal Minds - I love me some Spencer Reid and Morgan!
    2) Survivor - the original 'reality tv' show and I have a crush on the host... plus, I'm hoping that someday they choose Siberia as a location because I love cold and it's not fair for them to enjoy beaches as they try to 'survive'
    3) Shark Tank - I love to see the new and 'new' ideas presented, plus one of the financial sharks is Croatian ;D

  • What? you have a class on xanga?

    1. Beer.. alcohol in general and yes. I did it because I want straight As this semester. Alcohol and my alcoholic friends are distracting, especially when they do better than me and they drink more.
    2. NCIS--Timmy is cute. Big Bang Theory- I relate aLOT to it :) and finally probably Law and Order because I like staying ahead of the show and seeing where the plot goes. Better than Grey's Anatomy where everyone has to have a love story with every single doctor in that show.

  • not part of the Lent thing...  Red Dwarf, - there's just something about a beer drinker, a simulation of a micro manager, a fellow sapien...just a bit more feline, and a computer that cant quite come up with the right answers that amuses me.  Please Teacher as what more fun is there in life than to enjoy the comedy of a "misunderstanding?"  The New Red Green Show - Carpe Ductum!

  • A. I don't do Lent, but if I were ever in the mood to torture myself, I'll give up horror and video games.

    B. The Walking Dead (not just because of the zombies, but because it's compelling, suspenseful and well written)

Max Headroom (this show was the first ever to feature a computer generated character, which is brilliant and at the time, groundbreaking - also, Max made me laugh and I fell so hard for Matt Frewer the show created a crush in teenage me that exists to this day)

Spongebob Squarepants (Yeah, I know, but I'm a big demented child and the show makes me laugh)

  • A. Nope. I am not religious and I am too weak to give up anything.

    B. 1) Grey's Anatomy 2) Bones 3) The Finder ( I have way more than that but those are my top faves for now).

  • 1. I don't do lent.

2.a. Hawaii 5-0 of course: the show I love to hate and hate to love!b. Dr Who, because, well, it's Dr. Who! And he has a time machine.c. There are two shows that make me laugh a lot. I can't decide which to say...I, Carly, I think. Spencer, the older brother, is hilarious. He's always starting things on fire accidentally. Sure, it's a kids' show, but funny is funny.

  • Number A: nope.

Number B: Well, I haven't really been watching TV so I don't think I'm qualified to answer this question.

  • lent?!? yeah, no i stopped doing that prolly sometime around 8th grade - i just didn't see the purpose - and i guess i still don't.

three all-time favorite tv shows - (i'm a deep intellect as these selections will reveal)
    1a. pee wee's playhouse
    1b. the young ones
    2. gilligan's island/the munsters
    3. 3rd rock from the sun/freaks and geeks

but i have a long list of others i really like...

  • I guess I'll have to answer the tv show since I didn't do anything for lent (am not catholic i know some other people do it but not here).

fav shows... i love house.  the big bang theory. and guess the 3rd would be a toss up with survivor and amazing race tying.
am i suppose to say why?  I just like what I like i can't say why i don't like or do like something when it just clicks it clicks.

  • A.  Well, I didn't get off to a very good start this year because my son had surgery on Ash Wednesday morning.  I did go to the hospital chapel hoping I could at least meditate and get ashes, but it was just a bare room with a couple of chairs, not very inspiring, and all the ashes were gone.  Then we went back to my sister's after he was discharged and she had cake.  I'm still trying.  Ben brought home Entenmann's chocolate donuts and milk tonight, so two weeks later, I'm not trying very hard.

    B. I don't watch a whole lot of TV.  My guilty pleasures were All My Children and One Life to Live, but they took them off the air.   Previous favorites:
    1.  X Files.  I really need to ask for the boxed sets for Christmas some time.
    2.  ER
    3.  David Letterman.  I haven't watched in a long time; I am training myself to go to sleep without the TV on.

  • I'm a bad Catholic, but then again I've always said I was going to hell but I'm gonna have a kick ass time getting there,,,lol.  So nope didn't give up anything for lent, unless I borrow John Q's answer saying I gave up lent for lent....lol.  See I'm so going to hell, that is if he's not afraid I wont take over.

    Favorite TV shows:
    1.  RuPaul's Drag Race:  I love drag queens, some of those bitches look better than some women!!!  But I love love gay men, they make the best girlfriends, they tell it like it is, they want the best for you, and it's not about competing with them.  And I love to watch these queens read each other...FIERCE!!!!

Okay now I get a bit vague lol.
    2.  Tattoo shows!  NY Ink, LA Ink, Ink Master,,,  I'm dying for a second tat!!!  And I just drool over these shows!

    3.  Paranormal investigative shows: Ghost Adventurers..these guys crack me up plus they do get some good evidence, Paranormal State...with Chip Coffey cause I love him , Psychic Kids, duh Chip Coffey and now Long Island Medium...only because she lives out by me and I would love to run into her...lol

    So did I pass?

  • I didn't give anything up for lent.... my job gives up too much of my paycheck for me to afford what I want already.

  • @Rob_of_the_Sky - YES!

@The_Pyrate_Wenches_Ramblings - I have a network that on Sundays plays three hours of Lucy shows.  I love that.  I have never seen Bones.  I like some History Channel stuff, the history stuff not any of the reality series except American Pickers and the Pawn Stars because those two shows do have elements of history in them.

@npr32486 - I got on a chocolate kick last week and oh man it's so good.

@Peridot21 - bad girl bad girl, what you gonna do, what you gonna do when they come for you...good choices, I have all the Family Guy dvds except the Star Wars parodies.  I love that show.  Also I've been anxious for American Horror Story but the more I read about the next season I just don't know.  Oh and Dexter...I don't get Showtime because I'm cheap so I wait until the DVDs come out.  I guess I have to wait until August to see Tom Hanks' son be a badass.

@mZdejavuZ - I remember teh Buffy series but I never watched it, maybe a few minutes here and there.  I guess I liked the movie better.
I too love The Office and I love how they have been able to keep up good shows without Carrell.
I do like the vampire myths but Twilight really made them look like wussies.

@RestlessButterfly - You know I haven't seen any of those shows.

@John_Q_Normal - look out, we have a badass on the loose
Wasn't there a show where the premise was some guy in a wig would go kick people in the balls?  I think Face Punch TV would be better.  I think the best part of Mythbusters is Kari.

@spicyhotcoffee - I don't think I started to practice until I was in high school.  Up until that time I thought Lent was a special time when we had special church services where they served coffee after.
I think of those shows the only one I've seen is Chopped.  I actually like it because some of those ingredients are off the wall.

@roscoes_farm - Bourdain is the new epitome of cool but he's still no Sinatra.  I just got into the Top Gear shows.  I tried watching the U.S. version on History Channel but it gets boring although I did like two recent episodes, one with the most dangerous cars and the other with the minivans.  I am really enjoying that BBC America plays more of Top Gear.  I just saw one of the other day where they were driving down those sand dunes.  That was incredible.

@dirtbubble - You can say you gave up partying all day and stopping when the partying supplies ran out for Lent.
I love The Shield.  I have all the DVDs.

@spinner_mom - My Science channel has started playing Firefly.  I have to watch it sometime I guess.  I haven't seen the Doomsday Preppers but I should so I'm ready but then I figure December 21st will propel me into outer-space so I don't have to worry about being prepared.  I do like American Pickers although sometimes I get ticked off about how standoffish they get over $5.

@SolidStateTheory - I collect all my belly button lent and wait for it to become the size of a golf ball and then I add it to the collection.
I really like Sons of Anarchy and the past few seasons I've been sitting there thinking I've seen these stories before and then it finally hit me in this last season...it's Hamlet on motorcycles.

@pinktiger335 - wow, I have not seen any of those shows.  My dad said he likes Burn Notice.  It's syndicated on one of my local channels so I should probably give it a view.

@emily_shannon - I hope giving up homework doesn't hurt your grades.  I only get that Drag Race show when it airs on VH1 or regular MTV but then I don't know if they air it during the week or not.  Anyway from what I've seen I get a kick out of it.  It appeals to the inner 12 year old boy because of all the penis jokes.

@RickyStar7 - Oh man I loved the A-Team and Golden Girls and Three's Company.  It took a long time for me to catch on that Jack was acting "gay" so he could live with those girls.  Hilarious.

@Cestovatelka - I haven't done much reading now that it's getting nicer out.
I've only seen Survivor.  I watched a few seasons but it got so repetitive that I gave up.  They really should go somewhere cold but the ratings would dip because there wouldn't be half naked people.

@crashthedr3am - Yeah I have really cut back on my alcohol consumption.  I think in the month of March I have only had 1 drink.  At first I didn't like the Law and Order shows because they didn't give the characters much of a story surrounding their character but as I watched SVU they revealed bits and pieces and I like how they do that because it puts more emphasis on the plot.

@Green_Eyes_Seeing - Hmmm I seem to have given up that as well.  I was shocked how that video seemed to come out of nowhere.  Quite interesting.

@starmanjones - Oh man I remember beginning my weekend with Red Dwarf and ending it with Red Green.  Such great shows.  One of my local channels started airing Red Green reruns and I've been happy.  There recently was a Red Green stage show that came through these parts.

@ZombieMom_Speaks - My sacrifice this Lent has sort of been torturous.
I am thinking that when the DVDs drop, I'll buy The Walking Dead.  Oh man I can't believe someone else remembers Max Headroom.  God that was such a weird thing and then how it captivated the country and "he" ended up doing commercials.

@StrawberrySunrises - I like the practice because it helps me focus on things.
I don't think I've seen any of those shows, maybe a couple of episodes of Grey's Anatomy.

@whyzat - I remember watching on old version of Dr. Who with my dad when I was a kid and I had no clue what was happening.  All I know is that the dude had an awesome scarf.

@leaflesstree - sad, sad, sad, sad

@xplorrn - I do it even though it's not required of me.  Sort of a nice way to focus on the season of Lent.
I used to love waking up early on Saturday mornings to watch Gilligan's Island, The Munsters, and The Addams Family on one of my local channels.  Those were better than cartoons.  But Freaks and Geeks, damn I loved that show.  I own the DVDs and watch them so much.  I bought Paul Feig's books because of that series and it's funny how so many stories are from his life.  Oh and on Xanga I reviewed each episode and offered my insights.  I also included the episode but because the FBI closed down the sites that hosted it, those videos are gone but the posts are still up.

@LadyofWaters - I always find it nice to sacrifice something during Lent because of the biggest sacrifice of all.  I'm not Catholic but I do like the practice.
I like The Amazing Race but I think this season has been ruined because they put those two jackasses from Big Brother on that show.  I can't stand that Brendan and Rachel.  They are the absolute worst people on TV.

  • @musicmom60 - I think you've had to sacrifice enough and stressed enough that you can pass the Lenten sacrifice this year.
I have only seen a few episodes of the X-Files.  I think that's because it was on Sunday nights and that was my travel night, either traveling to the house where I lived during high school or back to college.
I love ER and I think I have every episode on VHS.

@wyckdstorm - Yes, you passed.  I enjoyed that Paranormal State.  I had an interesting experience at a haunted bar because of that show.  I was talking with the bar owner about how I watched that show and asked if he thought there were any bodies buried in the basement and he looked at me and said most definitely because the bar used to be a brothel back in olden days and after he said that I felt an electric shock run up my leg and back and come out my eyes and I started crying and couldn't stop until I left.

    @DislocatedTexan@ireallylikefood - that's so true.

  • A.  Nope.

    B. Castle: I LOVE Nathan Fillion; ever since Firefly, I have been amazed and enthralled with him. He is probably my only celebrity crush. The last one I had was Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys...and I was 14 at the time.
Revenge:  I'm not usually the "drama" type, but this show is so interesting. I love the main actress and how cold and calculating she can be at times.
Community: Okay...what's not to love? This shit makes me LOL IRL. Enough said.
I also watch Spy (British comedy...so funny), Eureka, Bones, Warehouse 13, The River, and The Office.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - nice, I've heard the stage show twice and can't quite make that  trip it's always out of town and expensive lol

  • @starmanjones - yeah I think the stage show was when I had something else going on that I couldn't miss

  • @Xbeautifully_broken_downX - you know, I've seen Firefly advertised on the Science Channel but I haven't watched it.  Maybe I should give it a viewing.
I am happy Community is back on the air.  I hope they prove all the suits at NBC to be idiots for canceling the show.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - Firefly is fucking awesome. It's sad they only did like 6 episodes, but the movie (Serenity) provides SOME closure to it. And in Castle, Nathan's character makes all sorts of random Firefly references. It's amazing. :D

  • i did not.

Law and Order: Criminal Intent. because i love goren
Bewitched cuz i love sam and the whole look of the series. reminds me of childhood when my grandma and i watched the reruns
Dexter. everyone digs vigilante serial killers

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - The last few episodes of amazing race I have been yelling at the tv mainly because I so dislike the girls fake crying all the time and that guys stupid for staying with her.

  • B

Family Guy (because it's so funny)
Seinfeld (because it's so funny. and other sitcoms suck)
The Colbert Report (because I liketo get the conservative view point of current events)
