  • Homework Assignment 3/12

Class, I read you last assignment and was pleased.  I know that a lot of people don't observe Lent and I know some that do don't practice sacrificing something for the season.  My church doesn't practice that but I do because it helps me focus on the meaning behind the season.  I also enjoyed reading what TV shows you enjoyed.  There are a few that I think I should be checking out.  I also forgot to add to my list that one of my recent obsessions is a show called Oddities.  Overall you did good, class.  Your grade is an A.

    Now here's your next assignment:

    A.

    B.

You may answer one question or the other and if you want to be an over-achiever, answer both.  I forgot to include an extra question for question B.  Make sure you tell me why you picked that song.

    OK, class, get to work.

    A.  I could never settle on a name and I couldn't narrow down my powers.  The first power I would like is the teleportation/time travel sort of like Hiro in Heroes.  I actually loved how he operated and basically I could be like Quantum Leap and help right what once went wrong.  The other power I'd like is invisibility.  Now I bet you're saying I'd want that just so I could sneak into girl's houses and watch them shower and do other things.  Well, maybe but I think the reason I'd like it most is because I wouldn't be noticed and I could hide.

    B.  I narrowed my songs down to two.  The first is Beethoven's String Quartet in c-sharp minor opt. 131.  There is just something so beautiful about this piece and it's so powerful and I have associated with the TV show Band of Brothers particularly the episode of the series entitled "Why We Fight".  That may be the best single episode in TV history.  The second song would be Don't Think Twice it's Alright by Bob Dylan.  I just love that song.

  • I would be Cynic Man. And my super power will be the ability to spread despair and gloom like a blanket over procedures; and juvenile enthusiasm will melt away. I'd zoom in on meetings where deep discussion is going on to try and sort out global problems and say "That won't work". I am very good where self-righteous authorities pretending to be civilised get together in photo-ops and pretend to try to sort out the highland wilderness of warring tribes that is called the Bronx, I mean Afghanistan.

Good luck on this assignment, but it's hopeless and nothing will come of it. Give up and turn to alcohol for consolation.

  • B. I would pick Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites by Skrillex because I am completely obsessed with it at the moment. I can listen to it over and over again. I'm sure at some point in the near future I'll tire of it, but it's like that will all songs.

  • I will answer question A, but I need to think about this...deeply. I can't possibly even come close to Lovegrove's Cynic Man this early in the morning.

  • The man Fly and bulling profe be abeat to fly around the world and help to fead the the people that nead food

  • I don't want to be a superhero.  I want to be an angel... hehehe

    Song?  Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

  • a. woman:  superpower would be the ability to get everything done.  ha.  boring, i know.
    b. one song?  no freaking idea.

  • I don't know if I would survive with just one song. It would have to be a long classical piece. I'm tempted to say 'Bolero,' by Maurice Ravel, but that is a horrid choice. I fail.
Superhero name? Well when I was in college some of my friends used to call me 'Brillo Head,' because I have curly hair and they're asses. Ever see the Harlem Globetrotters cartoon where they have superpowers? The one with the afro pulls everything they need out of his hair. So that would be my superpower, even though it is lame.

  • a. I already am a superhero. My power is being super awesome and fun.

    b. There are too many songs in this life/world to be bound to just one. If I had to pick one, it'd be... Come Sail Away by Styx, it has all the most admirable traits of a song to me. Slow part, fast part, sweet jam out.

  • A. hmm can't think of a name... but my super power would be kind of like that of Jeannie (from I Dream of Jeannie) or Samantha (from Bewitched)... in other words, to be able to do what. ever. i wanted! muhahaha!

    B. maybe something by Aaron Neville or Elvis... i don't know though... can't think of just one song... this homework is too hard! (that's what she said!)

  • Translating this first chapter of ,,Der Vorleser" is enough homework for me! :P Muttereffing idioms :P

I'm taking a homework pass this time around, and I promise to be a good girl and complete the next homework assignment.

  • I would be Healer and would take in every child who has even been hurt and help them heal and find their self worth, and get on a path where they can become who and what they were meant to become before they were abused.

    Why.  because someone needs to.

Moves like Jager by maroon 5

  • A. Stooporman, My super power would be inadvertently subdueing criminals by lulling them into a stupor with a tedious and monotonous soliloquy. Because I am good at it.

    B. Supper's Ready from Foxtrot, by Genesis. At 28 minutes long, it covers a lot of musical ground.

  • Oh jeez lol love your homework assignments.

    A. Ironwoman because there wasn't one? ANd I'd love to be married to Tony Stark ;) I lack in comic hero knowledge btw. I get a D for this one hahahaa
    B. Night and Day by U2 .... forever.

  • My souperpower of choice would be multiple orgasms.

  • A) Supergirl. I have all the powers of Superman, but I have a vagina. I think the name is self-explanatory.

    B) Here's my song (complete with translation): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeNJqgnzpo4

Why? The power of love is the most powerful force in nature.

  • I would be Super Skeptic and go around asking people to think about their beliefs. The super part would be my ability to NOT be condescending.

    I don't have an ipod.

  • A.  I wouldn't want to advertise my power, I think. And that power would be the ability to read minds. Information is power.

    B. ONE song??? Obviously just for a day or so, right? Even one of the best songs by any of my favorite artists would get old after a few listens. Right now...let me think what I'd pick. Maybe THIS one for now...

@whyzat - "Super Skeptic?" I like that! LOL!

  • A) Power - Teleportation; Name - I wouldn't have one of my own. I'd let the media dub me something cool.

    B) Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf.

  • A. My name would be The Shadow.

  • Superhero: I'm not sure what I would be called but I'd like to have the abilities to fly & read minds....

Song: Bugger me! I have hard enough a time trying to pick a song to listen to in bed @ night, mostly because I listen according to my mood. If I was relaxed & chilling it would be either: Iron & Wine, Her Tea Leaves..If I was rocking out, it would be: Elton John, Tiny Dancer..and if my sister was with me....The Little Mermaid, Under the Sea.
Ok! I'll pick one. *drum roll*
Elton John, Tiny Dancer. That song was written for me as a daily reminder that I was born in the wrong era.

  • A my super power would be invisibility.
B my song right now would probably be Rollin in the deep by adele

  • I always forget the whys and it's usually because I really don't know why :(

  • I would be The Ice Cream Man. Please refer to the Van Halen song of the same name for a list of super powers.

The song would be ”Vision” by Steve Tibbetts.

  • I would be Invisible Girl (not very imaginative, I know) and be able to go anywhere without being noticed. I wouldn't want the superpower just so it would enable me to snoop through other people's belongings--I just to be able to go walking after dark with the fear of being hassled or noticed. Doesn't sound like much, but even if I don't think I'm being aware of personal safety when I go walking, there's still an awareness that exists which prevents me from fully and completely losing myself in daydreams and pseudo-meditation when I ramble around. Or maybe just having Jedi powers and performing the Jedi mind trick would work, but I probably have to speak to others that make that work and the whole point of not wanting to be noticed means I don't want to speak to anyone.

  • A. My super power would be to instantly glue whatever I wanted, and to also be able to unglue it. This would allow me to climb walls, stick bullets before they were able to be shot, and all sorts of useful things. Actually, while that WOULD be a cool and useful super power, what I really want is to have the powers that Danny Phantom has.

  • @Lovegrove - That is a good one although I don't really know if it would work

@crazy2love - My first cat was a fan of electronic music.  He would lay on his back in front of my speakers and move around to the beat of the music

@fargoneandout - I think being invisible would be one of the best super powers there could be.  To me it's even better than flying because with invisibility one could sneak on board any flight or in any moving vehicle within reason plus I like the idea you touched on in not being hassled.  I don't like being noticed sometimes...well most of the time.

@James2012 - that's a good power being able to feed the hungry, I don't think many people would think of that...great thought

@RestlessButterfly - that's quite an interesting song, why'd you pick that one

@promisesunshine - you I'd love to have that ability

@leaflesstree - there was a kid at my college that everyone called brillo.  I thought everyone was just jealous that he had curly hair when they all had straight Germanic hair.  I think I'd go with something from Beethoven or Bach's "Toccatat and Fugue in d minor"

@Thatslifekid - well that is a totally awesome super power
One of my favorite uses of Come Sail Away is in Freaks and Geeks, this kid things he's going to get a slow dance with the cheerleader and then it gets all fast and he freaks out.

@Peridot21 - hahaha...that's a pretty good super power, it's sort of like a guy on the show Heroes.  He could basically do whatever he wanted.
I had a bracket of songs, you know like the NCAA tournament and I narrowed it down to two.

@Cestovatelka - homework pass?  Those exist?

    @Grannys_Place - that's such a loving idea

@Aloysius_son - You know I would like to enhance my storytelling ability because I feel that whenever I try to tell a story I put people to sleep
Oh man, Meat Loaf has some epic songs

@crashthedr3am - actually I wish there were more positive female heroes and not ones that get by on their sexuality but the comic book world is pretty much a male oriented thing.
I like that song.  I don't think I had ever heard the u2 version before

@dingus6 - dang, that is a good one

@Kellsbella - well thanks for that explanation, and Wagner...awesome, I think some people think I'm a Nazi because I like driving around with Wagner blaring from my car stereo especially Ride of the Valkyries.

@whyzat - that sounds like a good superhero

@Unstoppable_Inner_Strength - hmmm maybe you already possess said superpower and you just don't want to put on shows for people?
I set up a tournament of sorts for my favorite songs and I narrowed it down to two.

@Garistotle - I like that one but would it involve time travel sort of like Hiro on Heroes?
Meat Loaf sure has some epic songs

    @StrawberrySunrises - the Shadow knows

@TheGhioniFiles - Oh man I love "Tiny Dancer".  When I was in college the song "Picture" by Kid Rock was quite popular and a friend who was a bartender hated it because people would play it on the juke box constantly.  Well on slow nights he'd call me up and tell me to get down to keep him company.  Anyway we'd put $10 in the juke and play nothing but "Tiny Dancer" and eventually it became the most popular song on that juke box.  It was so awesome once we got the #1 spot.

@LadyofWaters - I have just started listening to Adele and I like what I've heard so far.

    @BenelliMan - receiving end?

@dirtbubble - hahaha...Ice Cream Man could be both your superhero and single song.

  • @randaness - that actually sounds pretty cool and useful.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - good choice. Theres a Bach fugue that I can listen to for hours.

  • A super hero...hmmmm  I would want to have the ability to speak with and control animals, plus be able to morph into any kind of animal I wanted to be.

As far as a song...  right now it would have I Am by Godsmack, the beat is just hypnotic and has been inspiring some writing I am working on :)

  • @leaflesstree - I love that one because it's just the organ and well it sort of sounds spooky.  I have for some reason associated the story of Dracula with that piece.

  • @wyckdstorm - that's a cool ability, sort of like a shapeshifter, there's a lot of that mythology around here with the Native American tribe

Yeah, Godsmack, there's something like you said about how hypnotic their music can be

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - I think that might be the one I am thinking of, it's all organ and it's kind of haunting. I think I like nearly every Bach piece I've ever heard.

  • @leaflesstree - ah...this one I bet...it gives me chills to watch that guy play

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - haha, yeah, that's the dracula piece, lol. Actually THIS is my favorite organ fugue, probably because it was the first one I heard.
