  • Hey...What do you know...

    I’m still alive.

    image

It’s been rough lately.  Where was I last time we talked?  A week ago, you don’t say?  Crap.  I’ve been so depressed and I haven’t been taking care of myself apparently.  Well my cat did the miraculous and pulled out of it.  Everyone thought she was a goner.  She was in rough shape but with plenty of vitamins and IVs she fought whatever she had and is now at my house.  She is actually pretty active for being this close to being put down.  I got her home Saturday evening or maybe that should be “Caturday”.  I need to get some photos of her in her current condition.  I think she weighs about half of what she did.  She’s just skin and bones.  Her fur is all scruffy but I think that's because for the longest time she didn't give herself a "bath" because she was just not feeling it.  The vet had to shave part of her throat for IVs and when you look at her from behind it looks like she’s missing her jaw.  Then when I look at her from the side she looks like a little hippy sort of like Maynard G. Krebs because the vet didn’t shave off her black spot on her chin and it looks like she has a prominent goatee.

This is Maynard G. Krebs.  What can I say…my dad loved Dobbie Gillis.

Anyway the cat is recovering.  I have to really pay attention and also give her a laxative for furballs because she’s crapping furballs out.  Before I took her home she took a dump on the vet’s examining table and the thing was about the size of a cigar.  This stuff is vile.  It comes in a toothpaste-like tube and I have to squeeze a drop onto my fingertip and then get my cat to lick it.  I wrap her in a baby blanket so she’s immobile and then get her mouth open and wipe it on the roof of her mouth.  I have to do the same with some vitamins that come in the same form. I think I'm going to quit giving her the laxative thing because she just had diarrhea and it seems like it got in her fur so now she not only smells because of the medicine but also because of diarrhea. She was pretty active today when my other cat, Kiki, was upstairs.  For as long as I’ve had them Lua has been the dominant cat.  Now that she is weak and went through hell Kiki has established herself as the dominant cat and makes it known to Lua by hissing at her every chance she has.  It’s actually sort of alarming.  I’m sure once Lua gets her strength back she’ll be able to stand up to Kiki.

As for me…yeah.  I guess being depressed and worried about a cat exasperated some of my conditions.  I was going in for some tests last Thursday because my anemia isn’t getting better and it’s getting worse to the point where a doctor wants to start doing blood transfusions.  I guess I got overheated and that’s not too hard for me since I had a heat stroke when I was a kid.  So dehydration and depression and anemia makes a guy pass out in the hospital parking lot on a 100 degree day.  So yeah it’s pretty f’ed up.

Also my computer is all wonky and I think it’s the heat and then I don’t know.  I think my video card or whatever is going kaput.  Oh well that can be fixed but I can’t or at least my doctors haven’t been able to fix me.

Thanks for showing your concern and I’m sorry I’ve been a bastard by not replying.

  • I'm sorry about your poor kitty! :(

    :internet hug:

  • I'm glad your cat is doing better. I hope you are well and okay.

  • Well thanks for the update, we have been worried. Or maybe just me, nobody elected me spokesperson. Glad you and the cat are doing better and I hope your cats work out their issues and get along. Glad to have you back. :)

  • wow.  you could sure use some good news.  i'm glad your kitty is getting better.  hope you do too- real soon.

  • @carolinavenger - thanks...I forgot to mention the possible liver failure or maybe I did that in a tweet or tumblr.  Anyway her jaundice is almost gone.  I was inspecting her and I couldn't find much yellow other than on her ears.

  • @crazy2love - I don't think she likes me because before I posted this I had to clean her up because of the diarrhea and then I gave her the medicine and she went running to the other side of the house.
As for me, well I guess the next few days I'm locking myself up in the house and turning on the air conditioning and watching Dexter and drinking plenty of water and iced tea.

  • kitty and you made it?  hot damn! since beers restricted and youre aenemic  hows about some iron!  beets- now now not a huge fan either shhoosh it! sweat heat kebabs?  beat brine from harvard beets, cranberry juice, soy, and tobaco.  why? iron absobtion aid, diuretic and iron source with a dash of salt so it doesn't suck

    your favorite vegetables
liable to suck down extra tea so due to hotsauce ;) lil iron never hurt the aenemic.  and voila  no cure but decent dinner?

  • @leaflesstree - I think we need to have an election and run political ads.  It might be a fun Xanga contest.
Last night was the worst for Kiki.  She was even hissing at me.  At one point I reached out to pet her and she started slapping my hand.  It was so funny that I laughed but then she bit me but it wasn't hard.  I think she realized that she bit me and didn't sink in her fangs.  Tonight she has been hissing at Lua but not at me and has actually let me pet her.

  • @promisesunshine - I think the best news I could get right now is that the cat will have a full recovery and then the next best news would be that we get a lot of rain to bring us out of this drought.  It is so bad up here and bad is an understatement.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - Oh it's going to be hot for you too? Stay safe and drink lots of water. I've been enjoying the heat this summer, actually. Call me crazy, I guess...

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - sure.  i proclaim those two things as your due.

  • @starmanjones - I hate beets but I've been eating lots of steak and taking iron supplements.  Apparently that isn't working.
    I think it's tea time.

  • @crazy2love - well it's part of your name...see what I did there?  Anyway I can't take the heat after that heat stroke.  Any time it gets over 85 my body seems to really slow down.  I'd much rather deal with -40 weather with snow.

  • @promisesunshine - hmmm there are some other things I'm wishing for currently if you are still proclamating stuffs but you'll have to read my mind on that.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - *hugs* I hope you'll be okay.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - i think i can hazard a guess on one or two.    what the heck, i'll throw that one in just for fun.  as if i have proclamating powers.

  • Poor kitty.  Which one is it?

  • @Rob_of_the_Sky - Lua has been the one that's been sick.  Two Thursday ago I started debating whether or not I should put her down.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - That photo seems oddly appropriate.

  • @Rob_of_the_Sky - yeah that's what I was thinking

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - lol, as I said, I do too, so not a fan. but they're covered up :D lol tea time.  and? http://www.ajcn.org/content/78/2/274.full this isn't the prescise study I was after but it is interesting in that it says something helpful to you to know-  good quality fish sauce can aid in your uptake of iron, the only kind I like is the vietnamese crap lite fish sauce...so I'm screwed! lol, also hot sauce
    http://jn.nutrition.org/content/136/12/2970.full
watch the yellow mustard .... HOT sauce!
    there enough longish crap

  • Glad to hear things with your cat are looking up. I actually passes out a couple weeks ago from dehydration. Hit the concrete with my head. Had a nasty head ache for days. Dehydration is a bitch! Feel better man.

  • Wow!!! You've been through the wringer. From one anemic to another... I feel your pain! Get some stuff called Cal Mag. It's a calcium magnesium supplement that helps you absorb your iron better! And get some pumpkin seeds, and raisins to snack on. I keep a butter bowl with a cup of raisins and a cup of chocolate chips on my desk. Sometimes my computer melts them though, and I end up having to eat this weird round chocolate bar with raisins in it. I ain't gonna give you no lecture about keeping your iron up though, since I do such a crummy job at that myself. But get the Cal Mag!

Glad to hear the kitty is pulling through too. That must be a job getting those meds on the roof of her mouth! I hope she starts gaining weight, and feeling better quickly.

*~does a wickedly weird rain dance and throws juju sticks in your direction~* Rainrainrainrainrain!!!!!!!  There that should help.

  • It's all good. I'd be totally freaking out if something that serious was happening to my cat. I am glad to hear that she is doing better~I am sure once the whole needing to give her meds is done she'll come back to you. she loves you. :)

Please take care of yourself and get yourself up to par!
I do hope this means we get to see you a tad more though.

  • good grief, you weren't kidding when you said before in that pulse that everything happens at once =/ ... just glad you're back! and glad to hear that your kitty is doing better! =)

  • glad your cat doing better  we all get deprest at time wecome back

  • Glad to see you're still among us :) Take care!

  • hope you and your kitty and your computer have a good health

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - you don't think the fighting over real elections is dramatic enough? Yikes it would be crazy if there were Xanga elections.

  • oh your poor dears! sending positive vibes your way. HUGS!!!

  • I've missed you :( I'm glad you're feeling better.

    *hug*

  • I'm glad the cat's doing better. She'll regain her status as soon as she feels better. Cats are as fickle with each other as teenage girls.

I used to rub the hairball goop into my cat's paw fur so that he'd lick it off.

Bummer about the computer acting up. I hate that sort of thing. Had to have the hard drive changed in the computer I gave my fiancee, and then later in her son's.

  • You're on iron supps? And vitamin C? Add some vitamin C, it helps you absorb iron better.

  • I'm glad your cat is okay!

  • To beat the heat, you need lemonade and industrial quantities of ice. You can never have too much ice.

Another way would be to wait a hundred years for global warming to subside.

  • I loved Dobie Gillis too - I related to Zelda    I'm glad your cat is on the road to recovery, and I hope you take extra good care of yourself..do you like liver?, it's full of iron.

  • Good to know you and Lua are doing OK.  And perhaps you should try out a different kind of beets. (http://youtu.be/BMm2KWr_YKg) :D

  • oh wow a lot you went through!! I'm glad your cat made it. Hope she recovers quickly, and you feel better soon too.  *hugs*

  • glad your kitty is doing better! hope your other stuff clears up again soon, now that things are mostly back to normal. :)  and thanks for the update, no worries about replying.

  • @starmanjones - yeah I've been trying to cut out a lot of sodium in my diet because of my dad's kidney failure.  I just figure I better start now because of genetics and crap.

  • @Lithium98 - Yeah she was much better today.  It was amazing.  I still have to give her the vitamins stuff and I just did and it's funny because of how I wrap her up.
I'm thankful that when I went down that I had people near me because I would've fried on that blacktop.  I've been avoiding work outside for that same reason.  I live in such a sleepy community that I figure if I go down in my yard there might not be someone that comes by for an hour or two.

  • @spinner_mom - I'll have to check out the Cal Mag.  I knew about raisins but there's some reason why the doctor told me to avoid them.  I think it's the sugar and they want me to watch my sugar and carb intake.  Stupid diabetes running in my family.
So the vet taught me an easy way to get the medicine in her based on how she observed me holding the cat.  When my cats come crawling on me they will curl up on my chest or stomach and then I'll rock them like a baby so I've taken to holding them like babies.  Anyway, she wrapped up the cat in a blanket like a baby so she couldn't squirm.  It makes it so much easier.

  • @StrawberrySunrises - she spent most of the morning sleeping behind one of my chairs but I took a nap or I guess I should say I fell asleep because I have no energy, she came out and slept next to me on top of the couch.  Then this afternoon she was more active and this evening she followed me every time I got up to do something in another part of the house.  I just gave her the medicine so she isn't near me.
I am slowly recovering.  I probably should've come online today but I got busy doing some other things around the house like finally getting around to organizing my dvds and cds but I still have a lot left to do.  I shouldn't take naps.

  • @Peridot21 - yeah there is probably more I've left out but I don't want to bore with my details and I guess it can't be all that bad if I can't remember it.  Lua spent most of the afternoon by my side and following me every time I got up to get a popsicle.

  • @KnightInCROATIANarmor - thank you, I need to muster my strength up to get back here full time

  • @leaflesstree - yeah I probably should forget it.  I seem to remember all those Xanga royalty contests and how much drama arose.

  • @emily_shannon - aww thanks, I've missed all my friends here.  I've actually had Xanga dreams and I don't know if that's alarming or what not but I have thought about the lot of you.

  • @Roadkill_Spatula - Tonight was much better as far as their getting along.  While watching my new favorite TV show, Meet the Hutterites, one cat sat on my left side and the other was on my right and they didn't hiss or cry.
I've tried putting things on her paw but she won't lick.  She'll wipe her paw behind her head.

  • @Thatslifekid - I am on an a multi-vitamin that has mucho vitamin c plus I get it the old fashioned way through citrus.  I eat so many pieces of citrus each day that I think I'm going to turn into an orange.

  • @randaness - As am I although she's avoiding me because I gave her medicine

  • @we_deny_everything - yeah that global warming thing...I'm wondering how people can deny it.

  • @mlbncsga - there are some episodes of that series that I thought were quite excellent and then there were some that I didn't care for.  Most of the ones I didn't like were the ones when Dobbie was bleach blonde.
I don't really care for beef liver but I'll eat it once in a while.  I love venison liver but hunting season is a long way away.

  • @Lakakalo - thanks...it has been such a long time since I saw Doug.  They need to bring back good cartoons like that.

  • @under_the_carpet - thanks...she spent about half the day sleeping which I guess is normal.  She came out of hiding from me because I gave her the medicine and now she's sitting on top of my computer looking funny with her shaved throat.

  • @BranmacFeabhail - thanks, she's so much better.  It's amazing how big of change there can be in two weeks.  I need to really get back in the swing of things here.

  • Glad to hear your cat is doing better.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - Are you, by any chance, familiar with Phineas & Ferb? (http://youtu.be/-8o6FLARCkg)

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - But if you aren't upping your iron intake, you'll be anemic forever. Popeye it up. EAT ALL THE RUFFAGE.

  • Whew...by all means survey your kingdom of cats and rest...

  • All joking aside, I am including you and your kitties in my nightly prayers.

  • I'm sorry your kitty was sick but SO glad she's getting better!

One way I knew my kitty was sick was how the other started bullying him around and he wouldn't even fight back. Now that he's feeling better, he's the boss again!

I'm sure your Lua will take over again soon
