Have a Heart
I’m sorry I haven’t replied to your comments the latter half of this week. I keep getting caught up with other projects. Maybe instead of posting I should reply. Sigh…I had it all planned out that I was going to reply to everyone today however I get a phone call from my mom saying she needs me to go with her out to some Amish farms in search of groundcherries. She figures I talk the language so I can act as an interpreter. The farms where an Amish lady at the farmers market directed her had no one there so we went to another Amish stand. These two boys came out to wait on us as we looked at their produce. They couldn’t have been more than 8. I talked to them in German and they were sort of shocked by that. I bought myself a loaf of fresh made bread. Well we decided to go to another Amish produce stand. I walk in and there were the groundcherries. My mom ends up buying like 6 quarts and also about 8 zucchinis and a few bell peppers that were the hugest peppers I’ve ever seen. The girl that waited on us couldn’t have been more than 10. After that escapade I got home and turned on the TV and got caught up in a marathon of Spike TV’s “World’s Worst Tenants”. That show is amazing but I think it’s fake. I don’t know, it just seemed to good to be true. Then my dad calls and asks what I’m doing for supper. I figure I’m going to just eat slices of bread. He said that they were planning on going out to eat and then to Walmart. I went along. If you read my Twitter you can learn about my Walmart experience. Now I’m sitting at home and ready to go to bed but I figured I better post something #caturday related or @Rob_of_the_sky will block me.
I hope everyone’s weekend is enjoyable.

I definitely teared up on the picture about the kitty who stayed with his friend for over a week. And by ‘teared up’ I actually mean I cried. Lol, I’m such a wuss.
Nice cats. Watermelons win though.
i can imagine 8 and 10 year olds working the family stand but i couldn’t help imagining Newt Gingrich seeing them and drooling over the prospect of them being school janitors. i guess i’ve been paying too much attention to politics over the past 4 1/2 decades.
i like the little white with black markings kitten on the couch.
Yay! Now I don’t have to block you.
It’s probably because you posted photos with watermelons (which likely aren’t even Amish grown), but I sense the produce at the Amish farms is the freshest and juiciest (or crispiest) there is out there.
Cats with booze – YES
Awwww I like the German one!
all those sweet little kitty hearts. and then the true love kitty stuff (gun, booze, piano)
aw. the cat friends. sad. (although at first i wondered what the heck he was doing to him)
also, what the heck are ground cherries.
and what is it about amish selling watermelon? ours do too.
Ich hattemeiner Frauzu zeigen, die niedlichen kätzchen.Wir beide gingen ,”Awww”.
I’m really glad the Amish moved into Parke County Indiana, bought up farms no longer productive and made them so using their methods. They came from many other areas so not so many close relatives marrying. I love buying fresh produce and flowering plants from them. And sometimes I provide quicker transportation for them as needed. Their young are given responsibility as soon as they can learn to handle it, something the rest of my community has lost to a large degree.
The cats were especially interesting this time.
Great Post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw a cat eating a pidgeon on Friday morning. It was my second time seeing a sight like that in my life, that I can remember. The first I saw a cat hunting the pidgeon, and the cat had already broke one of its wings. It was a strange and somewhat of a terrifying sight, but real none the less.
Aw. That cat with its friend.
(you don’t need to comment on this, btw!)
There’s a YouTube video with the cat trying to revive his deceased friend. I don’t believe he actually stayed there for a week (at the end of the video you can see someone taking the body away) but it was still sad to watch.
Is that the deer whose spirit lives inside you? Did you kill it with that smith & wesson?
How are the babies?
Kitties certainly do have good hearts (well…depends on the cat)
Awwwwwwww. This was the sweetest Caturday ever.
Also, now that I have a cat, yes about the one sitting on my keyboard. All these random buttons get pushed and then I have no idea what he did. Once he turned it off, which was okay because at least I knew what he did (stepped on the power button) but other times, it’s like, What, how did you even do that? O.o
I used to grow groundcherries. Hubby loves them. Their bigger cousins, tomatillos, are used in Mexican food, but you probably already knew that.
Cats with hearts, they’re so cute, I think I need a kitty with a heart.
I’ve never heard of groundcherries. Gonna have to look those up. That cat and his buddy is too sad.
the one about that cat that stayed with his friend literally just almost made me cry, my eyes just filled up with tears…
the cats with the watermelons made me feel a little better though – caturday, what a ride!
Cats make me lol and awww. Didn’t know you were so into cats. I like cats too. Whats this Caturday thing? Probably self-explanatory but just wondering lol.
Those were cute! Are those heart cats for real?
Are we to infer that after a weekend of boozing & carousing, your cats hang out around the piano singing hymns? What hypocats!
@clumsyandunaware - well I’ll keep it a secret if you keep it secret that I got misty eyed
@Relic47 - yeah watermelon is pretty good, I got some yellow watermelon a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty good.
@TheSutraDude - I think the kids help out at an even younger age but then I’m a poor judge of age with Amish children because they are usually much smaller than non-Amish. I think the tallest Amish man I’ve ever seen was about 6ft tall. I wonder if that is because they don’t eat all the preservatives.
@Rob_of_the_Sky - sweet
@sleekpunk - oh yeah the Amish grow watermelon, the first place had cantaloupe for sale and the second place had regular watermelon but they weren’t huge however they had dark shells or whatever you call the outside of a watermelon. My mom said the zucchini she got was quite good. She didn’t comment on the groundcherries because she froze them so I guess I’ll have to wait for my groundcherry pie.
@Cestovatelka - My cats love sniffing the bottles in my bar and also when I drink beer. They won’t drink it, they’ll just sniff it up. I love the cat’s face in that German one.
@James2012 - glad you enjoyed
@promisesunshine - Yeah my cats have multiple interests just like me.
I’ve always thought groundcherries were like mini-tomatoes, even smaller than the cherry tomatoes. They are somewhat sweet and are great in pie with some apple. Some people use them in salsa. Here’s what they look like in the pod and here’s what they look like outside.
@Aloysius_son - Nun, das istsuper.Ich bin froh, deine Frauhat so vielFreude anmeinem Blog.Dasklingt nichtin deutschersexuelleund ich binstolz darauf.
@JerusalemHill - Thank you, the Amish around here are what I guess they call Old Order because they are some of the most strict. For instance a couple years ago one Amish family left their community in the area to go to another one because the elders wouldn’t let men wear stocking caps in the winter while they were outside working. They could only wear their traditional straw hats. I have issues with the Amish because they like to drive their buggies past my house at 4AM and they also let their horses crap wherever and they seemingly always do it outside my house. Then don’t get me started with the horseshoe nails.
@KnightInCROATIANarmor - My first cat that my family had for 18 years liked to go outside in the warm months but we kept him on a leash because we feared he’d run away. Anyway he’d still catch birds while on that leash. For a while it seemed like it was a weekly thing. And the worst part was watching him eat the birds.
@LaughOutLoudLauren - yeah that one is so sad and people say cats aren’t loyal
@ThatOneBlondeChick - I figured that was too good to be true but it is sad nonetheless
@distractedbyzombies - now that’s one of a pair my grandfather left me along with an pronghorn antelope.
My cats are doing quite nicely. They are sitting staring at me from behind right now so I anticipate they are planning some mischief.
@xdeelynnx - my first cat could be really mean at times but he had a big heart.
@leaflesstree - glad you enjoyed, oh and you’ll probably have to clean your computer more often. I never had that problem until I had two cats and I found out my processor overheated and I had to get a new one. I think with the two I’m cleaning it out every 3 or 4 months.
@whyzat - yeah, but you know something, I have only had groundcherries in desserts. I’ve heard people using them in salsas but I only have had them in pies or with apples in some sort of pie or cake.
@emily_shannon - I wonder how and if there is genetic engineering for that. Kiki has a spot on one side that resembles the continent of Africa and the other side has a spot that resembles South America.
@comet555 - Yeah, that one made me misty eyed. As for groundcherries, they are like a tomato and little cousins of tomatillos.
@raspberryjade - yeah I got a little misty eyed on those too, yeah I was all over the place with this one, sort of like my life at times.
@TheThoughtsofJake - Caturday…I really don’t know where it started but a few websites posted photos of cats on Saturday so they just started doing it every Saturday. I just decided to bring that to Xanga although I don’t always get them posted on Saturday because sometimes I get a little busy.
@Ampbreia - I think a few of them are real like the third and fifth photos.
@judyrutrider - hahahahaha hypocats! That’s great. Yeah they are. Right now they are staring at me and it’s sort of unnerving.
@godfatherofgreenbay - My dog just looks like he got under the feet of a painter. It fits him because he’s always under someone’s feet.
@godfatherofgreenbay - Yeah. Well lets not get carried away here. As much as I prefer watermelon I stil do like cats. It’s just the way that the fur gets stick in your teeth that puts me off.
@emily_shannon - my cat Lua has been doing that lately, she seemingly has to be in the same room that I am in at all times. She even follows me to the bathroom and digs at the door. My one door is warped because of humidity so she can open it and she watches me shower.
@Relic47 - sort of like watermelon seeds stuck in the back of my throat, every morning I wake up with cat fur in my mouth. These pesky creatures like to sleep on my pillow or on my face during the night.
@godfatherofgreenbay - pronghorn, eh? cool. we had those around where I grew up. where did he take it? I hope the kittehs take it easy on you.
@godfatherofgreenbay - I’m glad I’m not the only with that horrific experience. Your story scares me a little bit though – how long was that leash?
@distractedbyzombies - I’m fairly certain it was out in Wyoming because he had a cabin out there for a while. I wish he kept the cabin he had in northern Wisconsin because the land where it was located is now worth millions.
Well one of my cats, Lua, the sick one, didn’t take it easy on me this morning. I guess it was cold since I forgot to shut windows and it got down in the 40s last night. I actually had to put on a blanket and she kept trying to get under the blanket.
@KnightInCROATIANarmor - oh that leash couldn’t have been more than 8 feet long. I bet it was 6 feet but it’s been so long. It was long enough for him to hide under some neighbors bushes so he could get cover for when the birds came through but not long enough for him to climb a tree in our yard.
@godfatherofgreenbay - Millions are nice. Wow, 40′s. I wish I could drive up there this week. We could visit the haunted bar.
@distractedbyzombies - yeah it’s getting into the 40s at night and the 80s during the day. It seems like a big jump. I need to get to the haunted bar one of these days. I guess since I stopped drinking for the summer, not because I drink too much but because alcohol is bad in the heat, I haven’t been there.
@godfatherofgreenbay - That is a big jump. A 30 degree difference is usually pretty average. Here, we usually stay within 20 or so degrees of our lows in the summer due to the humidity. Yeah, drunk and hot are a sucky mix.
Except for girls.
@godfatherofgreenbay - I see. Well, thanks for sharing
@distractedbyzombies - actually I’d like a sucky mix from a drunk and hot girl
well, those kittens certainly call for a resounding:
aaawwwwwww!!
@Zissu25 - glad you enjoyed
