  • Stuff

I just thought I'd share some stuff.  I'm sort of at a loss for words lately.

Last night we had a thunderstorm come through before sunset.  It was really eerie.  This is the library across the street from my house.

Then facing the other direction this is what the sky looked like.  You can see a faint rainbow and some cloud to cloud lightning.

I caught some lightning but it was cloud to cloud so you can't really make it out behind the clouds.

Monday I went to an Amish farm to their bulk food store.  I picked up a bunch of soup mixes and yeast because I'm going to try my hand at wine making.  Anyway, I took some photos of the Amish farm.  I could only get these two because the Amish are very picky about getting their photo taken and I didn't want to get whipped by any Amish farmer.  I think the house is the grandparents' house.  When Amish can no longer run a farm and they get to what we would call retirement age they go live with their children.

After the Amish farm I went to a cheese factory.  It was the end of the shift so there's soap on the floor and no one was working.  I like this place because they have windows where you can watch the process of making cheese.

The cheese factory also sells Amish bonnets and straw hats.  I tried on a bonnet because I'm going to get one for my mom for Christmas because she reads all these Amish romance novels and I figure she can wear a bonnet while she reads the novel.  Well a girl working at the cheese factory caught me trying one on.  I figured if it fit my head it would be big enough for my mom.  I was so embarrassed.

After the cheese factory it started raining and I came upon this Amish family.

I don't know if I mentioned this but I designed a parade float for my church for my town's Labor Day parade.  It was pretty simple but it required a lot of work.  I took photos of members of the church and had a printing company make banners for me featuring all the photos.

It's been so hot and humid again.  I'm ready for winter.

My house has good luck, Jesus knocking on my door and a mandella hanging on my door.  I'm set.

I think this is the first year I didn't have a swig with Nig.

I wish they let teachers drinking in the lounge.  No, teachers have to act "professional" now that they can be fired and can't negotiate contracts.

    Have a great night.

  • your so-called shit blog is a hell of a lot better than some people's best blogs, mine including

    i like the pikchas
i want an amish bonnet. i would totally look great in one. i must say i've never heard of amish romance novels. sound promising
    say hi to mom

  • I love the pictures!! Especially the ones of the sunset, pretty =] I'm ready for fall though, not winter. I could do without the snow :P

  • The Amish are interesting.  You did a good job on the float.  Teachers should be allowed to drink and smoke pot in the teachers lounge at the school.  Classes would be way more interesting/ like a rock show.

  • It wasn't a shit blog. You wanna know why? Because I said so! And so did a few other people, too (in case I don't count; but I do count, so there!). I felt like I was visiting a part of you ... not that your other blogs (that would make fun of, Which part?) don't show a side of you ... it's just that, this was kinda the undisturbed part. Oh, and that you live near a library shows you're an inner-city kid. Tends to be some homeless around libraries. :)

  • Pretty pictures. You should have taken a photo while wearing the Amish bonnet lol. Good luck with the wine making. Sounds like it will be messy.

  • I would like to take a swig myself. I think alcohol could make work more productive.

  • nice pictures.  i like seeing what you see in the real world.  i admitted yesterday at work that i shouldn't drink more.  great, huh?

  • I like your pictures alot.  Cool float!  Imagine, a cheese factory in Wisconsin.

  • Let us know how the wine making goes.lol. Great photos.

  • Lovely pictures especially the nighttime pictures.

  • I think the float is awesome :) Great job.

What kind of wine are you going to make?

  • An Amish cheese factory with electricity?  Maybe I'm reading that wrong.

Not ready for winter, don't much care for the heat, but it is what it is eh

  • Cool pictures!

A factory that lets you watch what they do inside is quite rare. I'd buy their stuff! :)

  • Good float! It's like the political ads with lists of signatures. Everybody will look closely to see if there's somebody they know..

  • those sunsets are pretty.

    Nice float.:)

  • Thanks for sharing!!  You know I love me some Amish people.  They're so fascinating!  I'm sure I've told you this before, but I have seriously considered becoming New Order Amish.

Also, I hope you get your drive to write back soon!  In the meantime, I'll heart all your pictures on tumblr :)

  • This isn't a shit blog. I love it. You live in a cool looking area. <3

  • You have a library right across the street?!?!? You lucky bastard!

  • Wee! love this blog. what are the prices like at the Amish bulk store? I bet you looked hot in the bonnet, wish you had taken a pic! That looks like a dream catcher on your door. I had one of those when I was a kiddo but zombies always found me.

  • try'n to find the words - of a feeling capturing - sometimes beyond words.

  • Awesome float. I want to go to a cheese factory! I completely missed the word "with" and read "Have a Swig Nig" and yes, I am laughing.

  • Libraries, rainbows, snow, bonnets... that's a pretty good blog! Now I want a bonnet! But my kiddo's would snitch it and leave me with my same ol floppy hats. Blah!

  • @bonmots - aww thank you so much, the Amish romance novels are pretty lame.  She had me see if I could find any on the internet for an ereader.  I found a couple but they mostly involved holding hands and buggy riding.  It is sort of difficult picturing you in the bonnet and the Amish get up.

@crazy2love - Oh I love the snow, it's so peaceful, it's just that my back doesn't enjoy the shoveling but then I just pay someone to do it for me when we get a lot.

@ohellino - I think at least 75% of the farms around here are Amish.  It's crazy but then they have such big families so they need to buy more land to work.  Some aren't even farming, they just work doing carpentry and other work like that.  I've designed the last three floats, maybe one of these days I'll post photos from the other years for comparison.

@sleekpunk - well thank you so much, I just get feeling down sometimes.  Hahaha...inner city...city of 1400.  Actually there are housing projects on the block as the library so maybe I am.

@leaflesstree - I actually had thought of that but the girl at the cash register who was putting out fresh cheese curds caught me trying it on.

    @James2012 - glad you liked

@Thatslifekid - I remember being called a racist over that bar.  I thought nothing of the name until an African American fellow called me a racist after I told him it was a popular bar in town.

@promisesunshine - well I guess that is a step to cutting down the intake, glad you enjoyed the photos.

@musicmom60 - there used to be cheese factories everywhere but they pretty much got bought up by the big companies.  We had a large one in my town but it closed, sat empty for years, got bought by some Chinese businessmen and they made energy drinks but they were sent to China and then the FDA shut them down and now it's a butter factory.  Glad you enjoyed.

@heythereJOANN - I will, if the wine with the actual grapes doesn't turn out then I'm going to try to make wine with frozen juice concentrate.

    @RestlessButterfly - glad you enjoyed

@emily_shannon - I don't rightly know, I think it'll turn out to be just regular table wine but my aunt told me about someone she knows that doesn't want their grapes and they have huge grape vines so I just want to experiment.  I'll have to post photos of the other floats I've made.

@ElevenStones - Well it's a cheese factory in the middle of Amish country.  It's not run by Amish but it is because the milk they use comes from Amish farms.  They make a ghost pepper cheese, it's the hottest thing I've ever eaten.

@nattata - yeah it's pretty cool that they do that, they get a lot of tourists because of the Amish country and people wanting to see them.  Anyway, here's the cheese factory website.  I don't know if they ship to Germany though.

@dingus6 - yeah after the parade we parked it along the parade route and there were about 3 dozen people staring at it

@StrawberrySunrises - thank you, glad you liked

@hxckendra - well you wouldn't like these because these Amish are Old Order and some I think are Older Order.  There is one community where the bishops have forbidden their members from painting their houses because it's a sign of vanity.  Then there is this one community that lost a couple families because these guys besides being farmers also worked as carpenters and they were working on a house in the winter so they wore stocking caps.  The bishop got wind and came down on them for wearing these caps and not the traditional straw hats.  They petitioned but all the elders wouldn't allow for stocking caps.  They also can't wear deodorant because that is body adornment.

@EmilyandAtticus - yeah I love living in this rural area, it provides a lot of fun.  I'm glad you enjoy the blog.

@Aloysius_son - yeah it comes in real handy if the computer ever goes out, the drawback is that people sit outside my house to get the free wifi at all hours of the day

@AncoraImparo - The prices are pretty cheap actually.  I got this bag of gummi fruit slices.  It's about 2lbs and it's only $2.50 whereas the Dollar General has the same candy for $1 for an 8oz bag.  I got a 2lb bag of bacon bits for like $2.  I got these soup mixes that each bag gives me about 15 bowls and it was $4.  I got caught as I was trying it on to take the photo.  That's a mandella.  It was a combination shield/good luck charm for tipis.

    @starmanjones - words are stupid

@TiRocKiinPiinK - well there was one time when I was working downtown and a guy asked if there were any good bars in town and I told him to go to Nig's.  He then called me a racist.  I never thought of that name as being potentially bad until then.  I have at least two big cheese factories around me.  One I can never get to because they have weird hours.

@spinner_mom - I was thinking of doing a Xanga contest and giving away a bonnet but I don't know what sort of contest to hold.

  • Your "shit" blog rather resembles mine.  We're basically voyeurs and simply enjoy glimpses into other people's mundane lives.  So, you can't go wrong with "A day in my life" type blogs.  I used to read a blog of a chollo living in East LA.  To him, his life seemed perfectly normal, rolling with his homies and evading arrest.  To me, it was like watching

    The Shield.

He stopped posting.  I wonder what happened to him.

  • @judyrutrider - maybe Vic Mackey got him

  • Those are great prices! wow...
well I hope it brings you much luck =)

  • @AncoraImparo - thank you, I have some dream catchers as well.  My roommates in college always thought I was weird for putting them up but they didn't act that way when I always had a good night of sleep
