  • Homework Assignment 9/10

Class, the time has come when once again we start doing homework assignments.  Last school year you did exceptionally well so I am expecting the same outstanding work this year.

With that being said, here's your first assignment this year.

    A.

    B.

    C.

OK, class, here are the rules.  Answer two of the above questions but make sure you answer them clearly and concisely and for A and B make sure you include why you made those selections.

Good luck, now get to work.

    My Answers:
    A.  I'd have to go with FDR or James K. Polk.  I think this country needs someone like FDR to get us out of the current state we're in but then some might chime in that he was a socialist who used war to his advantage.  Polk was awesome because he made campaign promises and kept them and because he did them all in his first term he didn't seek re-election.

    B.  This one is somewhat difficult because there are so many I could pick.

    1.  The Simpsons.  I honestly haven't watched many episodes from the past 10 seasons so that would be like watching brand new episodes plus the old ones are classic.  "we're talking softball..."
    2.  Star Trek.  I've never seen a complete episode of the original series and probably have only seen a handful of the Next Generation and Deep Space Nine.  I think it's high time I get into something like that.
    3.  South Park.  The show is so topical that when I'd see an episode I could have flashbacks to the actual events that inspired it.
    4.  The Shield.  Quite possibly the best police drama to ever air on TV.
    5.  Toss up between Friday Night Lights, Wonder Showzen, My Name is Earl, King of the Hill or Seinfeld.

    C.  Youth, Freedom, Intelligence

Comments (37)

  • A) Thomas Jefferson

    B) Perry Mason, Magnum, P.I., Doctor Who, Mystery Science Theater, Masterpiece Mystery

  • Clinton, Supernatural and Revenge (the only ones I really watch) and the first word I found was love... so I stopped.  Pretty angry about things today and not in the loving mood.  (so do I get points for trying?)

  • A. Abe Lincoln, because he was the sexiest president.

    C. cual, mhjrey, noax. I don't know what those words mean, though.

  • A. I'm not familiar with all of the presidents, so I can't say.

    B.  Everybody Loves Raymond, Family Guy, Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, The Colbert Report...

Pretty tired for a puzzle, but I've done that one before.

  • of the presidents, obama- i'm liable to have a shot at a future not to necessarily be shooting in the future.

the entire collection of this old house..if nothing else i might be inspired to have a better home, the entire catalogue of the victory garden because then i might be able to eat something.  the entire collection of the frugal gourmet because he covered far more genres of cuisine than nearly any celebrity chef so i might be able to eat well, the entire collection of the 400 something episodes of the red green show because I'll have some damn fine old jokes.  and the entire collection of sesame street so that I may be able to catch a damn nap if I'm so lucky as to have children around or fall and bump y head and have to relearn how to talk and read.

my words were love, lust, heal, sine, intelligent.

  • Love, intelligence, yen.

  • YAY FOR SCHOOL, YAY FOR SCHOOL!!!!

    A. I honestly don't know which President I'd vote for. I didn't pay attention to US History enough to know which one I would have liked.

    B. I would have LOST, Everybody Loves Raymond, Criminal Minds, Shark Tank, and my soap opera Y&R.

    C. Love, youth, and success. Youth doesn't make sense to me because I'm already on the mindset that I'm killing myself on my 70th birthday if I haven't died from natural causes by then. So, yeah - I'm obviously not too crazy on wanting youth in my life haha.  .... and I saw "yix" and my mind quickly read it as "sex". That would be a good thing to have in life hahaha

  • Shit. I forgot to explain B.

LOST - crazy, confusing, WTF. I love it.
ELR - Frank cracks me up
Criminal Minds - LOVE ME TO SHEMAR MOORE. Damn he's sexy...
Shark Tank - love capitalism haha
Y&R - nothing like shams for relationships, unrealistic stories, and awesome fashion

  • 1) Probably Theodore Roosevelt.

    2) "Fullmetal Alchemist", "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood", "Arrested Development", "South Park", and "The Newsroom".
    3) "run", "one", and "intelligence"... Wait, what?

  • A) James A. Garfield, his Lawnfield campaign was run in my hometown, and he had the shortest term in office, I firmly believe that he could have been a stupendous prez had he had a full term.

    C)  Sine, ceyax, vnurh.

  • A) Ronald Regan.  The dude won every state in the 84 elections except for Mondales home state and DC!  He ended the cold war and and and and.... there is just so much!!! We need someone like that back in office!

    B) 1: Happy Days. But only the episodes up til Fonz jumped the shark. LOL 2: Lost. Too many twist and turns to sort out in one sitting. 3: Farscape. Gotta have good sci fi in there. 4: Firefly. Ditto to number three. 5: All the Bugs Bunny-Road Runner/Looney Tunes Cartoons! Saturday morning forever!!!!

    C) Love, Intelligence, Foo.

  • A.) I would probably pick Lincoln. There's many reasons why he was a great president, but here's a quote that I found that sums up why I would pick him: " Lincoln manged Washington DC, the War, and Politics with a skill unmatched in history. Plus he was our most eloquent speaker. Washington and the Founding Fathers may have given a head and body to our nation, but Lincoln gave it it's soul."

B.) Family Guy - It will never, ever, EVER get old. Likewise, it will never ever cease to make me laugh.
Sons of Anarchy - The writing and storyline is brilliant. Even if you have no interest in biker gangs and criminals, it will suck you in and never let you go again. The cast is amazing, Katey Sagal is hypnotizing as a fierce mother, and each actor on the show is highly talented.
The Simpsons - The reasoning is pretty much the same as for Family Guy. I grew up with this show, and it never fails to make me laugh.
Dexter - A serial killer that you can't help but love. One of the most brilliant shows on tv.
Friends - I don't care, I love Joey, Chandler, Ross, Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe. Always will. Again, it never gets old. I watch a rerun of Friends at least once a day, it is constantly on and it makes me happy.

C.) Love, freedom, and intelligence. Sounds about right, but I'm guessing any words I saw would have sounded good.

  • @randaness - The "A" answer would be mine too, but not sure on that "sexy" part.  lol

Your words, or bunch of letters put together, were FUNNY!!!

  • A. Abraham Lincoln

    B. Lost, Falling Skies, Smallville, HGTV anything and History anything (are those last two too broad?)

    C.  Love, Money, Intelligence

  • A. jefferson.  he was idealistic but imperfect. knew there was lots of wrong to be fixed, but realized he couldn't possibly fix it all at once.
    B. for the rest of my life?  1)jeopardy! because it's a different episode every night. 2) firefly because i can watch it over and over and not be bored by it.  3) touch, because it's totally awesome 4) glee maybe. for the songs 5) fringe because maybe by the end of my life i'd know what the heck is going on.
    C. love, health and money.  interesting.

  • Eisenhower because he would provide no-nonsense leadership with a brain engaged.

    Intelligence, Happiness, Love.

    Hmmm

  • @olwd - even if he wasn't in real life, he is in my head. And that's really all that matters ;)

  • well I'm not American so I'm not well versed enough on the presidents and their decisions so I'll make this a Canadian question, Paul Martin hands down.

    1.run2. win3. love

  • elvis - bestest preseident evah...

freaks and geeks; the young ones; the pink panther cartoons; mash; pee wee's playhouse

intelligence beauty love (wtf?!? wi dat?)

    keep rockin' gogb...

what's the wager on sunday when packers go 0-2... zoinks...

  • b) Firefly, Castle, Gilmore Girls, Body of Proof, Rizolli & Isles

    C. Honesty, Intelligence, Happiness.

  • A) Nixon, but only if they reanimate his head and put it on a robot body. Otherwise he wouldn't be eligible to run again.

    B) Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Spongebob, The Simpsons, Batman: The Animated Series, Adventure Time.
...I enjoy cartoons. I am five.

    C) pop, ones, pines. I don't think it worked.

  • A. Thomas Jefferson, because he wrote the Declaration of Independence, he was probably the most intelligent president we ever had, he brokered the Louisiana Purchase and he wasn't even sure it was legal and he started the Library of Congress. I know he was a slave owner, but if he was alive today he wouldn't be one so ...

    C. Experience. Beauty. Happiness.

  • love, popularity, freedom
    prez? meh.
twilight zone, walking dead, sing off, futurama, the practice
    maybe.
    Hows about you??

  • 1. Lincoln. Integrity.
    2. Get Smart (my childhood favorite)
Early Edition (it was a cool show)
Dr Who (the current series is phenomenal)
    The Munsters
The Addams Family (I love retro humor)
    3. Cual
    Love
    Duawk
What languages were you including besides English and Spanish? I'm curious about duawk.

  • A. George Jefferson

    B. The Simpsons, Monday Night Football, Mythbusters, The original Charlie's Angels, with Farrah Fawcet, Gilligan's Island.

    C. X. I blinked twice while looking at it and it appeared as XXX.

  • A. Cant view it for some reason

    B. Really? I dont think I can choose because I can barely watch any good movie twice. I'm just not a watch it over and over again kind of gal. One of my bosses had a massive movie and televion series collection. It was like a movie rental store! I cant imagine having that many.

    C. Experience, Health, Freedom

  • @whyzat - Interesting choice, I'd love for Jefferson to do campaign speeches in multiple languages.  Also, which version of Dr. Who?

@hesacontradiction - OK you got points for trying

@randaness - cual is an archaic version of the word coal so maybe your heart is blackened by some horrible experience and this is odd because mhjrey means horrible experience.  Noax is just some character in a Dr. Seuss poem about how much he hates Japanese people.

@Unstoppable_Inner_Strength - I sometimes rip on Everybody Loves Raymond but I have to admit it was good TV.  I can really relate to all the characters and can put people from my life in the characters' roles.  I mean my parents are totally Frank and Marie.

@starmanjones - I figure if we elect Romney a lot of men and women will be on the front lines getting shot at in Iran and Russia and China.
Dang, those are some great ideas for shows.  I'd think you'd need something that has a lot of episodes so you wouldn't grow bored with it.

@sleekpunk - yeah FDR might've been one I'd vote for because of how he pulled America out of the toilet.

@Marica0701 - oh man, how could you not pay attention?  I actually disliked my high school American history class and I really like history.  The way the teacher did things was not enjoyable and also it was first hour.
Everybody Loves Raymond...I have ripped on it before but it is a good show and can be so relatable.  My parents are totally Frank and Marie however my dad isn't funny.

@emily_shannon - Yeah, I'd like Teddy because he was what people want in a president plus he hunts and I hunt...wait a second!  That's how they got me to vote for Bush.
Yeah intelligence is totally you.  South Park would definitely be good because the show is so topical that when you watch the Elian Gonzalez episode you could have memories of Elian Gonzalez and all that fiasco flash through your head.

@Thatslifekid - I don't know, Garfield wouldn't get much work done because of his anti-Monday stance.

@spinner_mom - I don't know, Reagan was pretty hated in my house and even though my grandfather was pretty rightwing he hated Reagan for some reason like selling out the country in that Iran Contra thing.
You know there were some pretty good episodes after Fonzie jumped the shark but they should've totally ended it when Richie married Laurie Beth even though he wasn't present at the wedding and Fonzie married her by proxy.  The later years with Roger as the Richie character were really bad and then when they made Joanie and Chachi into a band was pretty bad.  Sorry I love Happy Days.  I've never seen a complete episode of Lost.

@kaitlove__xx - you forgot to mention that Lincoln also hunted vampires
Sons of Anarchy is awesome, the first few episodes I described it as a motorcycle mafia show and I love mafia related shows but then I got into it deeper and realized that the past 4 seasons have been an elaborate retelling of Hamlet.
I love Dexter but I don't get Showtime so I only get to see it on DVD.  I finished up the recent season just a few weeks ago and I'm so tempted to subscribe to Showtime just so I can see it because of the fallout that's sure to take place and also this coming season and then the one after are all that's left.

@olwd - I'm always wary of shows on History Channel.  They sometimes have a very slanted view on history but not if you're talking shows like American Pickers or Pawn Stars or spawn of Pawn Stars.

@promisesunshine - Yeah Jefferson was a pretty sharp cookie.  I also loved how he learned Arabic to deal with the pirates that were attacking our ships.  Imagine these days if President Obama learned Arabic to speak to the protesters.  "HE WAS A MUSLIM ALL ALONG!"
Wow...I don't think I've seen any of those shows.

@meatloafpriest - yeah and Eisenhower was pretty ahead of his time.  I know one of his quotes was used quite a bit during the Occupy protests.

@JoeytheGenie - well I'm sorry to be so limiting.  I forgot for a second that there weren't just Americans here...sorry.  Paul Martin...I remember hearing about him but of course America tends to limit the coverage of other countries.

@xplorrn - 0-2 huh?  I wonder how Cutler enjoyed the taste of the frozen tundra.  It must've been quite tasty since he was seen face first on the ground quite a lot.
MASH and Pee Wee's Playhouse would be good ones.  I kept thinking about Freaks and Geeks but I don't know if I could add it with so few episodes.

@StrawberrySunrises - man, I haven't seen any of those shows and I think those words are great to strive for

@carolinavenger - yes yes yes!  Richard Nixon's head is such a great politician.
Of those cartoons, I have only seen multiple episodes from two...I feel so old

@theKisSilent - yeah Jefferson was great and he did have his flaws much like most presidents but he was so intelligent.  I love how he learned Arabic to negotiate peace.  Imagine the outcry if President Obama did that today.

@AncoraImparo - Futurama is an awesome pick and I got the Walking Dead confused with The Dead Pool and I was going to make a comment about how Mike Huckabee reminds me of the president in that book and show.

@Roadkill_Spatula - Oh man, Get Smart...I have a tv station called Me TV and it's all classic TV.  I think the "newest" show on their schedule is Cheers.  Anyway they have Get Smart every Saturday but then it might've changed because I haven't watched in a few weeks.  Also I think The Munsters was the first show that featured live people sleeping in the same bed.  Early Edition featured Kyle Chandler.  I never really got into that show but liked the premise.  Chandler was on a really good show called Home Front which was about the home front during WWII.  He was also on my favorite show, Friday Night Lights.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - But I like Japanese people!

  • @Aloysius_son - George Jefferson had such an inspiring story.  He was poor and just making ends meet and then he moved to the east side and got a deluxe apartment in the sky and became president.
Mythbusters would be great because if you ever got bored from not having TV you could always replicate experiments.

@theladyofabundance - That's weird, the new Xanga with the loading photos as you scroll sometimes takes longer for some photos than others and for some reason the photos I use for these posts take a while but the question was, "If every single president of the United States was running in this election, which president would you vote for?"
Yeah I have so many movies too.  I actually did have people come over to rent at one point.  Now I only let one person borrow and that's my barber.

  • @randaness - But Dr. Seuss didn't, especially during WWII

  • A) FDR for the same reasons as you, we need someone to pull us out of what we're in right now. A very close second, and possibly tied for first would have to be Bill Clinton!

    C) Love, Freedom, and Intelligence - yeah! :D

  • @raspberryjade - yeah I forgot how Clinton had such a high economic growth mostly because of how it's been pissed away.

  • People are mentioning shows I didn't think about and would like to see again. Unfortunately, some of the old ones I have seen have been badly digitized and are irritating to watch. Also, I suppose I've been spoiled by HD.

If I had to choose one Doctor Who, it would be David Tennant, but I would like to have the Tom Baker series, too.

  • Abraham Lincoln; he knew what's up.

Big Bang Theory, for good laughs.
that science show with Morgan Freeman.
Twilight Zone, even though I haven't ever watched much of that when it was on (because parents forbade horror o.O)
god i don't know, i don't watch TV, i don't even really have a favorite show atm. seriously.

    LOVE
    HAPPINESS
    FRIENDS

    :)

    That was fun!

  • @whyzat - I'm thankful for my library system because they have all sorts of TV shows on DVD.  I may have to get off my butt and go over to see what they have in the library or in all their network of libraries.  I could probably even watch this Dr. Who that everyone is talking about.  David Tennenant...I'll look for it.

  • @sacredrendezvous - Lincoln is an intriguing figure.  You have some that will say he was a strong Christian and others who will say he was an atheist.  You have some that say he was straight and some that say he was gay.  You have some that say he hunted vampires and some that say he didn't and that vampires aren't real.  I guess he loved to leave a mystery.
Oh yeah, that science show...I know the one you're talking about because I've watched it a few times and it was fascinating.
Oh man, my favorite Twilight Zone episode was on recently, the one with Burgess Meredith where he's this bookworm and he survives a nuclear bomb and is going to read all the books.
