  • Oktoberfest

Well it's that time of year again.  Oktoberfest is here again.  All I really know about the festival is that it's a big beer drinking celebration.  I consulted with wikipedia and if you believe that wikipedia is trustworthy it says that Prince Ludwig was married to Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810.  The citizens of Munich were invited to attend festivities honoring the couple held near the city gates.  The next year they decided to make it an annual event and to celebrate the agricultural aspects of Bavaria.  It was then pushed back to September for warmer weather.  Nowadays Oktoberfest is just a celebration of beer.  This weekend is the kick-off of Oktoberfest near me.  The fest here is celebrating its 52nd year and is one of the largest celebrations in America.  I went to high school in that town and my German class was invited for the tapping of the golden keg and we sang "Ein Prosit Ein Prosit Der Gemütlichkeit (hey I remembered the umlaut).  Later that day a couple classmates and I snuck into the beer gardens and we got plastered.  We were warned by people to be careful and avoid strange men giving us beer because that was when the Mississippi Madman or Smiley Face Killer theory was starting to gain popularity for all the deaths in La Crosse.  This celebration is a huge deal.  The local news station interrupts broadcast to air the transport of the tap to the beer gardens for the tapping of the golden keg.  The procession is much like how they do the Olympic torch except they have people running through the streets carrying a beer tap.  Open intoxicant laws are thrown out the window and the police get drunk right along with the festgoers.  The last time I was in that town during Oktoberfest I was at a redlight and I was offered a beerbong.  Oh and this year they had to hire police officers from London because they are expecting record numbers of people.  Nothing like a recession to bring record numbers of people wanting to get drunk.  No wonder it's often referred to as Notsoberfest.

Also you get to see sights like this:

Ok so the last two weren't from Oktoberfest but they were from a pretty kick-ass wedding reception that I couldn't partake of because I was bit by a spider and couldn't mix alcohol with my medicines because I wanted to keep my leg from being amputated.

More than likely, I'll go to the grocery store and grab a case of beer, some bratwurst, and sauerkraut.  Then I'll have my own Oktoberfest in my backyard and by Saturday afternoon I'll be passed out underneath my apple tree and neighborhood children will throw apples at my lifeless body.  Also I am alone so I don't have a designated driver.

Ich würde nie Alkohol im Strassenverkehr verzeihen. Ich unterstreiche gerade, dass ich jetzt verantwortlicher als an den Tagen meiner Jugend bin.

  • OMG! All that BEER!!

  • Sounds like fun... if only you happen to be a drinker, which I'm not.  It sure looks like fun though.  I saw it like this in Germany too.  There they had carnivals as well.  I may not drink, but I do love carnivals!

  • I'm thinking soup.

  • You should do a renn fair tribute post. talk about some CLEAVAGE!!!!!! For days and days and miles and miles. Boobage spilling over corsets, damn wenches! Oh lord, I can't wait!!

  • I need a Boot. But then my alcoholism would skyrocket because I'd want to drink from it all the time.

    Decisions, decisions.

  • @Marica0701 - Lol. You need to send him some beer cheese soup!

  • Wow, those are some huge... pretzels.

  • I always thought Oktoberfest was in October, but we just went to an Oktoberfest party last weekend and it's definitely not October

  • Let's make October a national holiday.

  • @Thatslifekid - He already makes his own beer cheese soup and he probably thinks his is phenomenal :- lol

  • I already needed alcohol to help me get through today, after seeing things I can't talk about.

Now I just want to buy beer and drink it all.
I don't know if I should thank you

  • @Marica0701 -  Then you both should send them to me. I will be the judge of this.

  • I wish beer went straight to my boobs like theirs do.

  • There was a German folk music cd in my dad's truck. It was horrible. I think the only way to enjoy that kind of music is to have consumed several liters of brew.

Drinking beer has helped make my cleavage what it is today.

  • I knew Oktoberfest was all about beer, but not all about boobs. :P

  • woah they do know how to drink. O.O lol.

  • Boobs and beer, hard to get better then that.

"Fishtember' is the best time to get out on the that lake, good luck

  • I always wanted to wear one if those German dresses that i forget the name for. I could get away with it since I have some Swiss ancestors. I have the right boobs but not the right body. If I loose enough pounds to look good in one I will totally buy one. Also, I don't like beer or speak German. My hometown has an "Oktoberfest" but despite all the drunks in town it's really just a street fair.

  • Lots of beer and cleavage in these photos !

    christy

  • All that foam smh

  • If I were God, I would create a perfect world in which women's breasts gave beer instead of milk.

  • Love your post, I was working on one kind of like it but, yours has much better photos.

  • @Relic47 - it helps that there is a pretty big brewery in town located just a few blocks from the fest grounds.

@Ampbreia - yeah there are non-drinking family events and I believe they do have carnival rides but I never get that far

    @starmanjones - soup is a good thing

@AncoraImparo - When I was living in Minnesota, I lived near this really big Renn fest.  I didn't have that much fun because one of the times I went I was a guest of one of my student's families.  The father worked for a company that supplied the portapotties so he got so many free passes.  I couldn't look like a pervert in front of the student.

@Marica0701 - I have a two liter boot.  The one in the photo is related to the one I have.  I think they're siblings.  I think I've told the story about how I acquired my boot but I probably shouldn't because I may get in trouble with the law.

@carolinavenger - yes those pretzels look tasty and are making me thirsty

@ShamrockLover - yeah I never really understood Oktoberfest being in September.  I always figured it was a way to welcome all the hard work that will be done in October with all the harvesting.  Plus I think a lot of the German pagan beliefs had the new year festival in October.

@dingus6 - Yes, it has another great night for fun...Devil's Night

@under_the_carpet - Ich habe nichtauf die Feierin diesem Jahr.Ich war zu beschäftigt.Ich würde gerne, dassin der Nähe vonMünchen.Ich binnicht gut inDeutsch, sobitte vergib mir.Alle deutschenStudenten, diean meine alte Schulekambekamihren Führerschein, weil sie schwerin Deutschlandzu erhaltensind.Ich vergaß zu erwähnen.Ich habeetwas trinkendeutsches Bieran diesem Wochenende.Hacker-Pschorrund Spaten.

@emily_shannon - sorry to hear about your rough day, I hope you made it through
Get some German beer and be happy and then thank me.

@sleekpunk - It goes straight to my midsection.  I wish it went a little further south because then I could be a star in the movies.

@Roadkill_Spatula - My dad was in a polka band when I was a kid.  I don't mind the polka music as well as the German folk music.  I guess that's my heritage shining through or my pride that he's in the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame.  I just found a radio station in my area that in the mornings plays nothing but Polish music and all the commercials and dialogue is in Polish.

@ItsAll_A_LoveWar - well yeah, when the beer flows the boobs show...sort of like spring break and Mardi Gras

@BookographyReviews - I couldn't imagine drinking like that all the time though which is why I guess Oktoberfest only comes once a year

@ElevenStones - I am supposed to head out this weekend but the temperatures are going to take a huge drop.  There's going to be a 20 to 30 degree difference from today.

@leaflesstree - dirndl...it's a dirndl.  If you get one or make one take pics.  I am told I need to get a lederhosen but I have grown accustomed to long pants or at least something that comes down past my knees and aren't so short that I have to be careful when I sit down.

@greatredwoman - yeah they have a wild time at Oktoberfest

@crashthedr3am - yeah, someone doesn't know how to pour a beer but then they probably have so many people wanting beer so they have to be quick about it.

@BenelliMan - sigh...I figure if I get there I won't come back, I'll just hide out in the forests or mountains or try to find family

@Aloysius_son - I'm sure we can get the scientists to work on that

@dangerousdan58 - feel free to borrow, I didn't get there this past weekend, maybe I'll have to see if anything is going on this weekend
