  • Wisconsin

The Midwest has been experiencing some weird weather for the past week.  Last week we experienced subzero highs with windchills in the -20F range.  Then it warmed up and snowed.  Then it warmed up even more and all the snow melted and we had flood warnings.  Then on Sunday we got hit with an ice storm and then it switched over to snow and then it warmed up and switched back over to ice.  It was like a snow sandwich.  It was extremely difficult to shovel.  Most schools in my area were closed on Monday.  Then it warmed up and boy did it warm up.  Tuesday we had highs in the 50s.  That's so weird because just a week earlier it was like -5 for a high.  Well the "heat" caused melting and more ice and fog.  This was no ordinary fog, it was freezing fog.  Most schools in my area were delayed or closed once again.  Then last night it snowed and the snowstorm was thundersnow.  We got 7 or 8 inches.  Schools were closed today.  The temperatures are dropping and currently it's 13 and it's going to continue dropping.  Friday they are forecasting a high of 5.  Who knows, maybe a hurricane will descend upon us from the Mississippi.  I wouldn't say it's impossible given the roller coaster weather we've been experiencing.  Anyway I decided I'd share these powerpoint presentations about Wisconsin that I found on Tumblr.

The one about Germany is interesting because the building that looks like the German building is a restaurant in my area and I believe one Xangan has admitted to eating there.

I did a vlog a while back featuring the interesting names of Wisconsin towns.

I've been feeling like that for some time now.

OK time for me to quit acting like a little bitch.

Time to tell the world what I feel.  Have a great night...except you and you know who you are.

  • What Wisconsin needs is more tornadoes.  Unfortunately my state seems to be hoarding them all right now.  Seriously, there were like 5 tornadoes near my area today, one of which did a lot of damage to a small town in my county.

  • MN has bipolar weather too. So I feel ya.

  • We call 'em 'bubblers' too!  Sometimes our weather isn't clement either.

  • it was warm yetday and lot of rain and now today it is snow

  • there was nuthin' 'bout that 70's show...  wtf?!?

  • That hand map thing only works in MI. If you have a deformed hand though it's ok in WI. Otherwise this is excellent. Also, might I recommend for your listening pleasure a song by Jay-Z called 99 Problems.

  • Wisconsin is awesome, that's all there is to it.

The town that I used to go to every summer as a kid isn't all that fun and/or interesting, but one of the lakes in it could probably make that list... Lake Kawaguesaga. :)

  • Sounds a lot like Canada and what we have been going through here.

  • and Laverne & Shirley...  More importantly for Lenny & squiggy...

  • Love your weather report and education about Wisconsin with great graphics.  I sure recall the weather in the Mid-West. We lived in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana for 20 years before moving back to California. lol If it drops below 40 here we are cold!!! lol

    frank

  • We need @Lovegrove to weigh in on this don't we, explaining all this Bier und Käse und the profusion of Umlauts.  Wisconsin Volk have an acute hankering for Lebensraum, which, I believe, you neglected to mention.  And further, how does a C-student get to be governor of a major state?  We need an explanation.

  • That I do.

Whoever made that presentation sound like they were really, really hyper. Which is great. Best presentation ever.

Got to love cheese and ice cream.

  • You keep your crazy ass weather to yourself! It's been spreading east... yesterday it was 60+ degrees, rainy and foggy. Today it's mid 30s and dropping with 25mph+ winds and tomorrow it's supposed to snow! My backyard is a swamp. The cornfield behind the yard is 6 inches of slop. I took the dog out and he's caked in mud from running around in it but I can't give him a bath because we're just going to go through the exact same thing tonight. And I couldn't even call him because the wind is so loud you can't hear yourself think! Fuck this shit, I'm moving to San Diego >.<

  • Weather's been wacky here too.

To this day I'm astounded by waitresses in Germany who carry 6, 7, maybe 8 "maß" of beer at a time. First of all the glasses alone are thick glass and heavy. In biergartens where you and friends sit at a long picnic type table waitresses are known to slam the beers down on the table. Beer splashes a little from the top and the whole table shakes. Those glasses are made not to break easily. Second, each maß holds one liter of beer.

  • Your weather sounds wicked. We've had ups and downs this week too but nothing quite like yours.

  • I have enough crazy weather here, thank you very much. One day I will come visit you. But not in the winter because then theoretically there will be less chance of blizzards.

Also, yay for ice cream. Cheese and ice cream, I like this stuff. And when I see the California cow commercial I just shake my head, no, cheese is Wisconsin. :P

  • Oh boy. It dropped down to the forties here. Brrrr. But I know I could handle the cold. I just need a hat and gloves and a parka. :) (All I was wearing was a sweater ... well, and pants and a blouse, too.) Thanks for sharing. I spent a little time in WI with my aunt and uncle when I was a kid and later, came up as an adult and visited some amusement park or something (can't really remember much of it except the cheese head tricorne).

  • Hey, you stole the hand thing from Michigan!  If Wisconsin is a hand, it's more like the Hawaiian hand sign for mahalo, or the Italian for "up yours", or the American sign language sign for "I love you".  Take your pick.

  • @Rob_of_the_Sky - we get tornadoes just not this time of year.  The weekend before I graduated high school the farm where I lived during the week got hit by a tornado and the mother of the family was in the barn when it collapsed.  She had to hide under a manure spreader.

  • @firetyger - yeah I used to love standing on top of the high school where I taught which was on one side of the MN River and watch the storms develop on the prairie on the other side.

  • @bundyinspeedos - bubbler is such an awesome name and the water always seems to taste better.

  • @James2012 - we are supposed to get snow every day this week

  • @xplorrn - yeah I was thinking why not Happy Days or Laverne and Shirley or even that one long running soap opera that was set in Wisconsin

I bet the person who created those was born after 1990.

  • @theKisSilent - aw yes the great Michgan/Wisconsin hand fights.  I tended to stay out of those fights at my college where about 40% of the school was from WI and 40% was from MI.  They also liked to fight over soda/pop

  • @Peridot21 - that is such an awesome name for a lake.  I can't even remember which specific lake my family had property near but it was on Eagle River all the way up there.  I vaguely remember going a few times when I was a little kid.  I wish we still had that land and cabin because land is selling for millions of dollars in that area.

  • @angys_coco - this weather is so weird this winter and now they are saying we're supposed to get snow every day this week

  • @HUMOR_ME_NOW - my aunt lives in Orange and when we talk about the cold and snow she shivers through the phone line

  • @we_deny_everything - Walker did a lot of underhanded things during his election and let's not forget that he's a Kochsucker.  I bet if Walker was a Democrat, Fixed News would be having strokes about him putting so much money into his legal defense fund.  Eventually the hammer will fall on him.

  • @nov_way - It's so nice having a cheese and butter factory in town.  It makes for cheaper prices because I don't have to pay for all the shipping.

  • @carolinavenger - my yard was all slop but then it became frozen slop and now it's frozen slop covered by a foot of snow.

  • @TheSutraDude - that skill is one of the greatest skills in all of humanity.

    happy belated birthday

  • @LadyofWaters - it is so strange and over the past few days we've had at least a foot of snow.

  • @leaflesstree - well that pretty much leaves just July because that is the only month I've heard of or experienced not having snow.

I didn't want to get all scientific but the cows that are used for milk production are most productive when they are in temperatures 40F or below.

  • @sleekpunk - there are so many cheese statues in this state, my town is home to two large mice eating or sitting on tricorners of cheese

  • @judyrutrider - I can sort of see the hand thing for WI if you look at the back of your hand and stick out the thumb.  But what about Michigan's U.P.?

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - Yeah, that really should be part of WI.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - ...you've had snow in August? Well, I suppose it does get cold near the end of the month. Because my birthday is in the middle of August and I've decided that it can Never Snow on my birthday. But I suppose it does, in the mountains and such. But I'm not there so I'm okay with that.

  • @judyrutrider - I suppose being a guy I could demonstrate the U.P. with my hand as WI

  • @leaflesstree - my mom and dad talk about a huge blizzard that hit on the last weekend of August.

  • Good thing I don't live there. I don't need help having more of either cheese nor butter.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - I saw Wisconsin had a negative 35 this week. I don't see how you stay warm. I can't keep myself warm here and it's only been 50s this week. My toes and fingers feel like icicles.

  • @LadyofWaters - well my furnace is always running but I have it set at 62.  I actually sitting next to a radiator so it's sort of warm.  I'm wearing just a t-shirt and shorts.
